(Open Box) Fat, warm, and juicy sounding.

The Fulltone Soul-Bender is based on the legendary Colorsound and Vox Series III ToneBenders made by Sola-Sound/England in the late '60's that was used by Beck and Page on much of their circa 1968-70 recordings.

Equipped with 3 gain-matched germanium transistor for a FAT, searing lead tone, Michael Fuller also made the Tone control response and range more usable and much less shrill sounding... Full clockwise is SMOOTH sounding.

The Soul-Bender cleans up when you back-off on the guitar's volume control. This pedal has tons of tonal character and even harmonics and of course, true bypass w/ LED is included with every one.

Michael Fuller on the Soul Bender:
In the early 1970's, Sola-Sound England produced a very fat, warm, and juicy sounding Distortion/Fuzz called the Tone-Bender Mklli. These were also sold under the Colorsound and Park brand names with slight variations in circuit and favorite being the Sola-Sound. "3 knob Tone-Benders," as they became to be known, were very different from the more popular Fuzzface pedals in that they had more sustain and a lot of sweet midrange on-tap, which could give a thin Tele or Strat avery sax-like solo tone, especially with the "Tone" control turned full clockwise. The 'Bender tone control cuts treble and increases Bass & Mids as you turn it clockwise, panning between a large and small capacitor, which is the way different from most other pedal's Tone controls which simply cut treble as the knob is turned counter-clockwise. The magic of these "3 knobbers" is that they contain 3 germanium transistors...all of differing gains, and the secret is you have to know the proper gain each transistor needs to be in order to produce the best sound. I know, riot because of some schematic on the web (all wrong BTW) or"build your own" kit, but because I have owned and repaired 40 or more original "3 knobbers," and have almost 20 years experience with this circuit, knowing what makes them sound great and sustain long. The original Fulltone Soul-Bender came out in 1995, it was inspired by this classic 3-knob design, and was produced up until around 2006 when I could no longer parse suitable transistors. Approximately 3107 units were sold during that period. Recently I have re-established a relationship with one of the last remaining germanium transistor-making companies, which has allowed me to re-issue this Fulltone fuzz-classic as the Soul-Bender SB-2.

The SB-2 is in some ways better than the old Soul-Bender in that I am now having the transistors made-to-order just how I want them, and these wonderful skinny-tall TO-1 Germanium transistor (with atop hat brim) that have just the right characteristics, including the requisite low gain and low noise just like the vintage Sola-Sound pedals had. The Soul-Bender improvs on the original 60's design by offering more available volume, a more usable Tone control range, True-Bypass switching with my proprietary "silent switching circuit," better power supply filtering for less noise, and polarity protection to keep the sensitive Germanium transistors from cannot fry this pedal if you accidentally use the wrong power supply!

Your SB-2 is roughly half the size of the original Soul-Benders (or Soia-Sound) and I left the IN &OUT jacks on the rear ofthe pedal like the original Soul-Bender so it will fit on even the most cramped pedal board.

60's Fuzz

Comments about Fulltone SB-2 Soul-Bender Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

There are many fuzz pedals out there these days, but this one really gives you that one sound that the others don't. I also tried the Fulltone 69 pedal and that is a great pedal as well, but the sound of the Soulbender is entirely different. For that late-60's Tonebender sound this pedal can't be beat. Buy both pedals and you'll have all the fuzz sounds you could ever want.
Real easy to dial in those Jeff Beck, early-Zep, Iron Butterfly, Yardbird type sounds. The three knobs are very dynamic and you can really fine tune the fuzz. But keep in mind, it will always sound like a Tonebender, which is the point, isn't it ? Also, running this pedal into an amp with various stages of overdrive gives even more choices. The instructions are printed on a single sheet of paper because once the basic operation of each knob is explained it is up to you to start exploring all the possibilities.
As with all Fulltone pedals, this one is built about as good as it gets. The quality is obvious as soon as you pick up the pedal, and taking a look inside reinforces that opinion.
If you are looking for a raspy, fat 60's fuzz this pedal is it. Alot less expensive than a real vintage Tonebender (if you can even find one) and certainly more reliable. The AC option also makes it possible to hook this up in your pedalboard and not have to worry about batteries, although different battery types can be explored as well.

Comments about Fulltone SB-2 Soul-Bender Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Boutique fuzz with a boutique price. Way Huge Fat Sandwich is anotch below. This gives you some very realistic old grind short of an original Octavia or Sola Sound when you use the clean channel on an amp. It is much more musical when you do not use it with other pre-gain stuff like ODs and Gain stages of modern amps. Of course, you never use these things with your volume knob on 10, and the tone on your guitar will also be an important adjustment to make any of these pedals sound right

Comments about Fulltone SB-2 Soul-Bender Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Of all the many pedals, the Soulbender is a perfect choice for recreating that UK fuzz of the 60s. I've found that there are others more accurate but at a larger price tag.
