I searched around for a while for an effects processor that would fit my situation. I finaly settled on the G-Major. All in all, it's a great processor. There is plenty of ways to tweak your settings. The reverb has so many ways it can be customized. It's a good idea to have a MIDI controller though. Otherwise it's not really worth having if you can't control it.The only down side I have with this unit is partly my amps fault. It has an effects-loop that is switchable for serial to parallel. Now the G-Major has a function in which you can do the same, but it doesn't effect the sound enough to where you can tell it's even there. The only way to get it heard though my amps fx-Loop, is crank the ins and outs. But it effects the amp's tone too much when those volumes are high. So you can switch the G-Major to run parallel and the amp's loop to run serial that way it doesn't effect your tone.I think this is a great addition to anyones rack as long as you are willing to experiment with different sounds to get what you are looking for.

T. C. Electronics, I feel, makes the best guitar processing equipment available on the market today! I also feel, however, that the G-Major isn?t worth the metal from which it?s made! The only reason that I picked up this piece of equipment is that I presently own a T.C. Electronics G-Force and haven?t been able to get rid of the dropout when I am changing banks on the fly. The G-Major does eliminate this problem but it comes with a hefty price; the tonal quality is severely lacking in comparison to the G-Force. I do have to say, however, that I am an extreme perfectionist when it comes to my effects and my tone. The G-Major is perfect for someone that is just beginning to work with complex effects or someone that isn?t worried about tonal perfection. If a person is just messing around in his garage or is playing small gigs around town, then the G-Major is perfect for him. The G-Major is not, however, for a person that has used professional level equipment such as the G-Force or Fireworx. I also have to say that the G-Major is not as user friendly as the G-Force and isn?t as flexible either. Some people may feel that the G-Major is the best thing on the market since the invention of cold beer but I just don?t feel that it is one of the best things to come from T.C. Electronics.

I took it back

By Akhenen

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

This unit was good on paper and had every effect I could ever want on my guitar, but it totally trumped my tone, and everything was way too sterile. I just couldn't handle it, so I took it back and got another speaker cabinet instead.

TC Electronics G-Major

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

For effects lovers, it doesn't get any better than this. Folks, this is the real deal. I had a Line 6 Podxtlive, which was decent for getting some different sounds, but if you really want clarity and punch and killer effects, you can't go wrong with this unit. It is really a unit for guitar lovers who like the sound of their instrument and amp's tone vs the Line6 which can make a $200 guitar/amp setup sound great. I took the advice from some other postings on here and got a BBE Sound Maximizer 362 with this. I play a PRS McCarty hollowbody and a Carvin DC135 with this setup thru a Fender Hot Rod Deville (with the 4 10s). It is a just amazing, a serious amount of fun. I always loved the psychedelic sounds of 60s and 70s (x deadhead/allmans..etc), and always tried to get some of those fat, far out sounds - this unit has a bunch of them preprogrammed in there - right out of the box, no tweaking. BUY IT - YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT (I HAVEN'T SO FAR). By the way, the band I'm in - they're totally blown away, it's like I'm not even playing the same instrument.

Great sound/processing quality

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I bought T.C Electronics G-Major a few months ago. The sound quality of this effects processor is amazing, I spent a good month trying out all kinds of units before buying, and the G-Major is comparable to $1,000.00 units in terms of quality IMO. I play rhythm and lead guitars and my main Jam/Live rig consists of my ESP Guitar w/EMG's --> ADA-MP2 preamp --> G-Major (through the ADA effects loop) --> Marshall JMP MK.2 100watt Lead head --> 4x12 cabs. I'm running a mono signal. Everything sounds crystal clear at stage volume (our band is Loud too), effect spillover is beautiful. There is absolutey no tone coloration unless I program it to do so. I also own an old ART X-12 Midi foot controller which works 100% (expression pedal too) with the G-Major. I have easily been able to set up Midi modifications. I haven't had time to try Tap Tempo out yet, so no comment on that. Only thing I wish it had was looping and intelligent harmonizing. The pitch shift included though is very smooth and responsive just as advertised. Running full stereo for direct recording is crystal clear and very high quality if your using proper quality cables and a conditioned power supply. The manual has brief explanations of how everything works and is good if your expierenced with effects processors --> The G-Major is a breeze to dial in your effects very quickly. Otherwise it could seem kind of complicated for a beginner. The Factory Presets are there for demonstration/example and usually they are just programs the techs made to test out funcionality. So make your own... you will be amazed at the amount of control you have to tweak for perfection.

    Great features.....IF ONLY THEY WORKED!

    By Anonymous

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I know a lot of people are praising the G Major and it IS killer, but only when it works. There are so many problems that I feel TC Electronics don't recognize and deal with (Blank LCD screens, knobs not working, etc). I'm not the only one. Feel free to look up yahoo and check out launch groups yahoo in the G Major section --there are tons of people having problems with the G Major, but at the same time totally wish it would work because the effects ARE super clean. But do yourself a favor and do some research before you really commit to buying this. If it's too good to be true...

    It's Just Ok

    By TeleLovin

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I've been playing on this processor for nearly a year now. In my experience with multieffects units I definitely have to say that this sounds the best. The thing that definitely apealled to me was the idea of making large program changes (if you can get your rig set up correctly). This means i'd be able to switch from my main distortion tone, w/ a gate and compressor on, to a clean tone w/ reverb, delay, and a tiny hint of chorus in one tap. After a year, i've yet to achieve this.By itself though, i definitely do enjoy the sound of the effects. But in my opinion i think i'll stick with a few stomp boxes that are a little easier to navigate.Definitely not for the faint of heart, or those that are busy.

    Total Control/Totally Transparent

    By jl-RdGZr

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I have had my G-Major for three years now and have had zero problems using it daily since I got it. I control it with a Behringer FCB and can literally make it dance. I use it to switch two of the four channels on my Mesa Quad Pre(the FCB switches the other two) before sending the signal to a stereo Marshall tube poweramp. I use it in the Mesa effects loop.Pure "Tube Tone" is very important to me and the effects of this unitare simply incredible. With the G-Major, I can get my rig to go from heavy saturated tube overdrive with a touch of reverb and delay to prestine clean with any ammount of chorus, reverb or delay with the touch of a single pedal. I did not find this unit hard at all to program and the manual is excellent as is the web-site.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

it is a great processor. all the effects are clear, crisp and sound warm. the only complaint i do have is about the noise gate. while it does cut out most noise, i think they could have increased the dampening range to cut even more noise. whenever i use my engl screamer 50 on the heavy lead channel and put the lead knob at level 8, it lacks the response to cut out any noise. i'm looking for something that will make my sound tight and agressive. the dist. spills over. and for people who think that the g major can't pick up notes under Eb, just switch the tuner mode to bass and set the range at "fine". it's a little trick i learned... after 5 months of using the processor!!! all in all though, a good unit.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

This unit has nice effects, and it gives you several ways to control your effects with foot controllers. The big drawback to this unit is it won't accept guitar signals directly. This makes several effects worthless (vibrato, tremolo, pitch shift), as you cannot get the effect alone when running through an effects loop. Also, when running in the fx loop of your amp, you cannot mute the signal to use the tuner. As a stand alone processor, it's very nice. As the primary unit in your guitar rack, you cannot use it's best features (without buying alot of other gear).

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I just received the G-major. I've owned the G-force but sold it to get away from rack equipment, but I had to come back with the price drop on the G-major. Maybe the G-force is better but I can't tell. Look at all the pros that play the G-force (Vai and Timmons for example) and you know it's the best.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

This thing is amazing! The effects are great and with the turn of a knob you can edit anything! It's even got a 3 band digital EQ in the Noise Gate. Speaking of noise gate, the gate is insane! It cuts the effect noise, and it can cut the feedback and hiss right out of your amp. I use a high gain Randall, and it's noisy. These effects are endlessley editable. Most single stompbox effects and floor units have only a few knobs to edit. This thing has more than 6 editable parameters for all effects. To close this, it's a great value.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

The only problems that I have encountered, is that it will not register notes below Eb (flat tuning open 6th string). Being that I am a cellist, this makes it much less a desirable unit for me. It is definately designed specifically for guitar.

quality effects at an affordable price..awesome!

    By Stormrider

    from Louisiana

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I've never liked most of the "all in one" effect processors due to the pre-amp that is usually built in to them. While the effects themselves usually sound decent, the tone of my seperate pre-amp/combo amp/stomp box always sounds better than the effect unit in question. Now, Finally, someone out there makes what I've been looking for, an effects unti that must be used with a seperate pre-amp, keeping my original tone and adding effects to it...what a concept eh?The versitility of this unit is amazing, there are numerous ways to hook it up to your existing amp set up as well as numerous ways to actually go about accessing your effects. While it may look intimidating at first (the instruction book reads like a pilot's manual) once you sit down and play with it its really pretty simple and easy to edit/set up. There's 100 factory presets plus plenty of room for your own stuff as you can save 100 user presets also. The built in tuner is a nice feature although it seems to be a bit touchy with some of the lower notes (I tune down below standard tuning). Just about any midi control pedal will work with it, but for those of you looking to save a little dough, the Digitech Control 8 is a good option. It works fine for me and other than calibrating the expression pedal (which you have to do with any exp pedal) there's no programming needed. Although I'm not a big "effects guy" I do use several subtle changes and this unit does them all wonderfully. The only grip I really have is there's no dedicated "wah-wah" effect. There may be a way to simulate it with the existing effects but if so I haven't found the right combination yet. Other than that, this thing really has just about everything you'll need (unless you're Steve Vai or something) and for the price it just can't be beat. Keep your tone and have your effects too!

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I own and have used the G Major processor for a couple years now. Although the G Major does not have the depth of editing as the G Force, it allows the use to adjust all the major parameters for each of its effects. The sound is transparent and its reverbs, choruses, and delays are pristine. It is the best on the market in its price range and its flexibility and quality is perfect for the hobbyist as well as the professional (granted that he or she does not need the added features in the G Force). Further, TC Electronic's tech support is fast and friendly.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

The G-major sounds great and has lots of features, but it's not reliable, I have had mine for years I haven't had the problem with it locking up that others have, but I have had a lot of issues with the knobs. The knobs are very breakable, two of them broke and I have been looking for a way to replace them for about a year. It costs more to have them replace the knobs than what the processor is worth. Now I just want to get rid of the thing.

I've recorded with the g major and it did produce studio quality effects. For the price its worth it. I really didn't like the g minor foot switch, before I could get used to it, it stopped working right. If you've got the money go for a g force but if not this one works well.

Comments about TC Electronic G Major Guitar Effects Processor:

I got this prouduct about a week ago, and I am truly stunned. Many people complain that it is hard to use, but it just requires a few minutes in front of the machine and the manual. The range of effects and the modifications you can make are just awsome. Unlike some processors it does not even slightly degrade the sound of your instrument, just smoot amaizing effects. Ive already used it for a few recording sessions and it just stands out. If anything ever happens to this on, i'll definetly buy an other.
