I loved the action of the neck. It's fast, and it fits my playing style. It had amazing low end, especially when I turned up the tone knob for optimal growl. It can even replicate Paul McCartney's tone playing completely clean. I loved the high end ring, and I loved the sustain. It stays in tune for quite a while, and the knurled metal tuners really keep everything in place--even in the worst thrash sessions. The black gloss finish gets smudged up easily, but it isn't a big deal. I was also a little disappointed with the lack of more tone control from the instrument itself, but the tone knob was significantly useful. Incredible growl, amazing ring, it can do it all.

good starting bass!

By BassPepper

from Hernando Beach, FL

This bass is pretty good for a person who has no experience with the bass and wants to learn. Other than that, it's a bit too bassy sounding (not enough treble), and it's not very slap-friendly. Well, like I said, it's a good beginners bass. Enjoy!

the quality, value and price on this are amazing

This bass has awesome sound for the price it is set at. I never had any problems with it, and who needs that many features on a bass anyways?

A Good deal in the end

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is a good deal for any starter who is not sure whether or not they want to play the bass, but want to give it a shot. If one has some musical skill and is serious about playing the bass I would get something a little better to start. Otherwise I have had few problems with this guitar. I have had to adjust the neck which is pretty easy to do and I would definitly recommend getting better strings right away.

Addendum

I already reviewed this bass, but after playing it about twice a week for the last 6 months, I still feel it's a great deal. For what it's worth, I picked up another guy's bass, the Washburn XB100, and I would choose the Dean over the Washburn. The Dean has a slimmer neck, better factory strings, and I think notes sound better.

great bass

This is a great bass. I made and put a pickup cover over the pickup. It gives it some great sustain. I would definitely recommend this bass. You don't need to change the strings right away. I had my strings on for 2 years before I changed them (a week ago). Not many problems overall except the G string tuner is kind of screwed up. But it stays in tune fine. Again: a great guitar.

Good quality, great value.

I learned to play on this bass. I beat the crap out of it these past couple years and it still packs a punch and rocks the stage.

This was my first, its awesome and it sounds as good as a fender. Well, not quite. But the low end is as clear as my Beast.

Dean-ness

By Inside03

I currently own this Dean Playmate right now. I agree fully that it is a great starter bass. I've had only minor mishaps with this bass. Nothing that cannot be fixed within your home. I give this bass a 7/10 rating.

Excellent bass for the novice

By Jarrod Lovett

from Jacksonville Fl.

This bass is excellent for the beginner such as myself. I purchased my bass with the bass in the box headphone amp dirt cheap. As a beginner, there is no need to get expensive gear before you've established yourself as a musician.

Well, It is definently a bass...

By Slim-sybqW

I've been playing bass for about a year now. And this bass has been more than reliable. A good deal if you're just starting out. But if you've been playing for 2-3 years, get a better deal.

Great instrument for the money. I have played guitar for many years. Just got the bass last year to expand my horizons. I don't have any past experience to base the bass on, but I'd recommend it for sure for beginners.

Good For Begginers

By Mike-O12Of

This is a pretty good bass for any beginner. It's extremely durable, my strap broke while I was playing and it didn't even get a scratch, it stays in tune extremely well. My only complaint is that the strings aren't great, but overall very good.
