I have been playing bass for 8 years, but I only ever played one of my brothers' basses. But seeing as both of them moved out, I needed to get my own for my band. I wanted something inexpensive so I could get it quickly, but I didn't want a basic beginner's bass. I've played Dean's Edge 9's before and was pleased, but thought there should be a little more there. I found this little beauty and thought it would be worth it. This bass can definitely be used as a beginners bass, but it will also last through intermediate stages too.
It has a great bright tone, but also gives great rumble. There are some buzzing frets, but nothing too extreme.
I've had this bass for a few months now, and I'm not planning on upgrading soon. Though in the future I would like something more professional.
The amber finish is gorgeous. This bass has great stage presence. And it's surprisingly light weight for a bass, though I would still like to get a strap pad for it seeing as it does hurt my shoulder after a while.
The only problem I've encountered is the bottom strap button. The hole stripped, but that was easily fixed with a broken tooth pick and wood glue. I'm planning on investing in strap locks anyway so nothing bad happens while I bounce around the stage.

Bought this beautiful bass for my son to practice. He is a beginner player and hasn't clocked many hours on this instrument. It still looks brand new. Purchased in May 2015, but by November the inside wiring broke. The bass wouldn't produce any sound. We decided to have the wire soldered back together so he could keep playing. Unfortunately, that only lasted a short time and the wiring is broke again. The neck has been adjusted twice and the input jack has been loose pretty much the whole time. I understand little things that like that happen, but out of all the different name brand instruments we own, this is the only one that isn't producing sound. I have attempted to contact Dean guitars for weeks and I cannot get any help. Very disappointed with Dean guitars. To think...A young musician who is only getting starting will no longer buy this brand. Sounds like Dean guitars just lost money!

Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
Limited budget. I played for years in local variety bands. I got this Bass as a backup, but ended up using it for 2 live shows now through an Acoustic 100 amp. It needs a little pickup adjusting for sound and you may want to set the neck a bit, but it plays nice and I can't argue with the price. My other Dean Edge I had for 5 years and it still plays well.

Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
I have been playing for over 30 years and needed a bass fast but was low on cash. I received it today and I am very happy with it. I had no problems with fret buzz or any lose parts whatsoever. I can say that it has very good tone once you use the pickup volume knobs to find the sweet spot. It has great tone and I have already recorded a few songs with it.
For the price you cant beat this bass and it sounds better than a lot of other basses I have owned.
Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
Perfect
First of all, this is my first bass guitar. I have been a guitar player for over 25 years. I am very subjective with instruments, but I have to say, I am impressed with this bass. The fit and finish is perfect. The playability is fantastic. I recieved the bass in perfect condition and was wowed when I unboxed it. Beyond the beauty, I tuned it up and it played extremely well. For the price, I can't see how this bass could be beat. I give it a 10.

Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
I got this bass on a whim when I saw it online as a scratch and dent. I was skeptical, as the original price was so cheap anyway, so I wasn't expecting much from this instrument, and was planning to have it as a backup to carry with me to gigs. Wow. Just wow. I am blown away by the sound. It's got a nice warm hum to it that I've never heard with a bass under half a grand. The stock pickups are very sensitive and pretty loud, which actually gives you a lot of room to tweak your sound. The overall feel of the body seems a bit cheap, as you'd expect, but the neck is slim and fast and feels great to play. Not to mention it has 24 frets, which is a welcome bonus. It was mostly playable out of the box, but I did have to adjust the truss rod a bit to alleviate some of the fret buzz (which still exists to some extent) but that's really the only bad thing I have to say about this bass. I will also say that the deliciously warm smooth tone is consistent along the entire extent of the fretboard. This may seem like it should go without saying, but if you've ever played a bass with uneven tone, either between strings or between octaves, you'll really appreciate what I'm getting at. To sum up, I just really felt like I needed to drop a positive review of this Dean bass. It's really a diamond in the rough among similarly priced instruments. It's a treat to play, and I feel sure you won't be disappointed. I certainly wasn't.

Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
I purchased the Dean 1 in the summer of '16. I am very happy with it. I rehearse 3 – 5 times a week, and usually play out once, so it's getting a lot of use. The neck and saddles have required a few adjustments with seasonal temperature changes, but it seems to be settling down. The neck adjusts correctly and is evenly relief-ed on both sides. The hardware and electronics are excellent. It produces a wide range of tone. When adjusted its play-ability is lovely. A minor complaint: When I received it, each saddle adjustment screw was stripped on one side, and would not stay in adjustment. A manufacturing error, I imagine. Musician's Friend suggested I return the instrument, which seemed silly to me. I called Dean and they quickly sent a new set of saddles. All's well that ends well, so 5 Stars.

Comments about Dean Edge 1 Electric Bass Guitar:
I am extremely impressed with this bass. First, it's just beautiful. It has a glass-like finish on body and back of neck. Dean constructed a multi-piece body with nice grain, and the amber stain works well. It has an upgraded bridge, compared to the usual cheap "vintage" type. The 24 frets are nicely finished and the neck only needed a slight truss rod adjust to attain straight. The neck is slim and fast, like a nice J-bass. The pickups sound good enough and there isn't a lot of line noise. The bass is rather light, but feels solid and is well balanced. This bass is just an unexpected joy to play. I would actually use this bass on a gig. Dean did a great job!
Just a note in case you are trying to decide between this and the Dean Edge 09: I also bought an 09, and it's also an unexpectedly nice bass. The 09 has a satin finish on the neck, which I usually prefer, but the high gloss of the 1 doesn't detract from playability. The 09 only has 1 pickup, so the 1 has a greater range of sounds. The 09 only has 22 frets instead of 24. The 09 also has a "vintage" bridge instead of the 1's upgraded. While I like the 09, I would recommend the 1.
