OVERVIEW

A faithful reproduction of a legendary bass born 40 years ago.

Since its introduction in 1976, the Music Man StingRay has been embraced as one of the world’s classic electric bass designs. To celebrate, Ernie Ball Music Man is proud to introduce the 40th Anniversary “Old Smoothie” StingRay, a faithful reproduction of StingRay prototype #27, designed by Leo Fender for Sterling Ball during his time spent testing and developing the original prototypes back in the '70s.

Named for its smooth even tone that is reminiscent of the highly sought after vintage Music Man StingRay sound, “Old Smoothie” has been precisely reproduced including the one-of-a-kind custom made 10 pole piece pickup design, body headstock and pickguard shape, 34-inch scale maple neck and fingerboard, high profile narrow frets, active electronics, hardware and exclusive chocolate-burst finish.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man 40th Anniversary "Old Smoothie" Stingray Electric Bass Guitar:

I started out with a low end 4 string, then upgraded to a Sterling by Music Man 5 String, but have always had my eye on a Sting Ray Bass. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase this 40th anniversary edition and I have no regrets! This Bass is all it claims to be and more. It is very easy to play and the sound is excellent. Has a nice low Bass tone and as promised it is smooth. It is easy to see why they call this one "Old Smoothie". If you are a serious Bass player you will enjoy this Bass!!!!

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man 40th Anniversary "Old Smoothie" Stingray Electric Bass Guitar:

This instrument is absolutely beautiful, and has an amazing story behind it. This was easily the most breath taking first impression when I opened the case. And just when I didn't think it could get much better, I plugged it in and it is smooth as butter. It can easily pull off active and passive tones and just sounds the way basses should sound while still being unique. Don't be afraid to mess with the preamp either, you can make some great adjustments right at your finger tips.

I'll admit the neck is a little wider than I am used to, or what you'd find on a standard Sting Ray, but you get used to it. The low frets make it feel extra smooth and play great. Flat wounds make it even smoother.

All around a great bass, and very fun to play, but more fun to listen to.
