Tve played bass off and on for 32 yrs, this is my 1st spector Bass, great bass for the money, solid well made, great feel, very good tone, and looks great. I own a Roscoe skb 3005 and (a warwick corvette rock bass for a back up). After buying the Spector Legend, the warwick will take a back seat, B string not solid enough for me. I use a Hartke 500 watt head & epifani 12" cab, The Legend 35" scale works wonders for the B string, solid earth moving clear sound, this is a great bass for the money, it has flaws, but low price basses do, what we have here is a solid made bass, that if you ever feel the need to upgrade, just invest in some pickups and maybe some tuning keys, add another 9v in series to give 18v of power to this beast, think about top shelf Bass. Spector Bass works for me.

I bought this bass because I needed a moderately priced 24 fret active 5 string under for a Jazz band I was in at the time. That was probably my mistake. Such an instrument does not exist at that price range without making a few compromises. In this case the compromise is in the pre-amp and pickups. The pickups are SSD (Stuart Spector Design) and the pre-amp is a Tone Pump Jr. The higher priced Spectors made in Europe and the U.S. have much better electronics. The sound seems muddy to me, no matter how I EQ it.

This is still a good instrument for practice and jamming. I would not recommend it as your primary performance instrument. One thing I will say is the overall quality is very good. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck.

Amazing bass

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

This bass made me nervous. I hadn't ever heard of Spector until I was bass shopping for Christmas. I decided to purchase it because of the 40 day return policy. This bass blew me out of the water. I've never played such of a good sounding, feeling, and .. beautiful bass. I got it in the slate grey and good god, it's such a beautiful finish. This bass is worth the money. You get what you pay for, that's all. Spector is forever my main bass until I can afford something more expencive [A rick of a corvette rockbass[

Good mid-price bass

By Lamlee Samlee

from USA

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I have always wanted to own a 5 string so I was thinking about buying a Sterling by Music Man RAY35. After seeing Arif Mirabdolbaghi (Protest the Hero) and Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) using Spector basses I thought I'd give them a try. I really liked the neck and I found it very comfortable to play on. I only played it for a few minutes, but it made me reconsider going with a Sterling. It's a bit cheaper than some other 5 strings and doesn't seem to have a loss of quality.

High-quality bass

By Bronsony

from Cookeville, TN

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

First off, this bass is simply amazing. The Tone Pump Jr. gives you the chance to tailor your sound to however you want it, from distortion to a sweet, fat sound and everything in between. The sound for the price is awesome. Even on my Fender 15-watt practice amp does this bass sound beautiful and stunning. I've played this at my local music store on a Fender 100-watt and the tone is unrivaled even more so. The body and hardware is simply beautiful. There is no contest when it comes to the looks. I recommend this bass to anyone looking for a playable, beautiful, and tonal bass. You will not be disappointed.

Bargain

By Corkupine

from Canton, CT

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I was hesitant to buy a Korean-made bass, but boy was I proven wrong. This thing looks and sounds great. It certainly is not as playable and musical as the higher-end (2x the price!!) Spectors, but in my opinion this is the best rock and roll bass in this price range.Plays smooth, the active EQ is great, and the EMG-HZ pickups on my older model are more than acceptable. I've gigged this bass many times, and I am never disappointed. FYI, I string it up with DR Black Beauties which look cool and sound GREAT.The downsides - not everything is of the quality that some other Spector instruments are. The bass is a little heavy, and due to that the screw holes where the strap buttons are loosened up - nothing some Loctite can't fix though. Also, one of the nylon washers that separate the tuner knob from the body broke, but the tuner is still fully operational. I have also noticed that this bass seems to have NO appetite for strings that are not fairly fresh - the quality of output seems to diminish quickly as the strings age more on this bass than others I have owned, though I could be wrong. I have been using coated strings and that seems to give me a nice tone for long enough.Bottom line - REALLY nice bass for an UNBELIEVABLE price. Great as a main axe for the majority of people, and great as a backup for the working pro.

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I bought this on a whim after seen Dan Briggs (Between the Buried and Me) because I loved the way it looked. You absolutely cannot get a better bass for the money. Sounds amazing, fells great in your hands, and looks awesome. I couldn't believe how good it sounded when I first started playing it, and fellow bassists are still blown away by it. There is no other bass I'd rather play with.

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I've owned this bass for the past 4 and a half years and must say, I haven't even thought about buying a new bass. The bass has great tone for the price, the G string sounds bright and the B string will shake your whole house. The preamp definitely helps out where the passive pickups are lacking, although they are still great pickups, and I have only had to change the 9v for the preamp once the whole time I've owned the bass. The bass looks great too, I have it with the black cherry finish and it still looks amazing. The bass came set up really well, although I need to re intonate mine now since it's been a while since I've done any upkeep on it other than changing strings. Spector did a good job constructing it too, although I read a review on here saying theirs came riddled with problems. In the almost 5 years I've had it the only thing that has gone wrong on it was one of my tuning knobs broke a little recently but it still works fine and isn't noticeable to anyone but me. If you are looking for an affordable bass that is good enough to gig with look no further. Great tone, great craftsmanship, great price.

Fretless is Cool

By Patrick-_p6_w

from Taos, NM

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I own the fretless version, but there are fret lines, which are not terribly accurate harmonically, but if you ignore the lines (shouldn't look anyway!), it feels right as a long-neck fretless should. I put flats on it (LaBella) for jazz and Americana, and the pickups work better than with the cheap strings it comes with. The tone and pickup controls offer any color you want and these active pickups are hot (lots of good clean signal). Overall a fine product for the money!

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I purchased this bass, natural but had to send back. I have a neck through Spector and thought the natural Legend would round out my collection. Sound not quite their and the craftsmanship was quite shoddy, almost as if an apprenticed luthier was tuning his craft. I was greatly disappointed.

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I've played bass for 7 years now and had many go through my hands but this one is here to stay. When I decide to get a 5 string I tried them all, Carvin, Yamaha, Music Man (out of my price range) Schecter, and none felt and sounded nearly as good as the Legend 5 that I currently own. Plus it has the EMG HZs with the Tone Pump Jr circuit, so I play it all. The neck is a tiny bit thick and I wish it had those killer Spector crown inlays on the fretboard, but other than that it's the absolute best bass I've bought yet! So if you don't have Spector, get one and you'll see what I'm talking about

Awesome

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I bought this bass a year ago and it's still my favorite. It beats most of its neighbors in this price range as far as tone control goes, and its neck and body feel really great for people who want that big tone without playing on a baseball bat for a neck. The only drawbacks are the minor kinks you get with lower end stuff. For one, you have to get straplocks (because putting it off is useless). Second, you'll have to get some strings that last a while (I saw DR High Beams) and find a good gauge for that B string (.125 works well for me) because the response will be unsatisfactory if it's too low. Great buy. It's a steal.

I'll only buy Spector's from now on

By Anonymous

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I've owned this bass (in the beautiful black cherry color) for about a year now and I'm in love with it. It has an incredibly tight B string (or low Boom as I call it), along with durable and reliable hardware and electronics. I wouldn't have chosen EMG-SSD pickups for this one, but I'm not complaining because you get hooked on the sound. Independent pickup volume knobs and the Tone Pump preamp (hi/mid/lo) add a ton of possible sounds. Neck feels great and body isn't too heavy. I use DK Blue-Steel strings and make this thing growl with rich, warm lows and brighter mids. Comes with really high action, which can be easily adjusted with the locking bridge. Remember to unplug when not playing as you will run down the 9v battery for the active preamp-circuit. Remember though, that Spector warranties only apply to the first owner, so consider that if you buy used as you won't get the warranty. Bottom line: Spector gives you way, way more than you pay for with this bass. Excellent for beginners, intermediates, or as a professional back-up guitar. I play solo and with a non-gigging just for fun band and my Legend Classic 5 never disappoints. Try one out and if you like it, get it. But don't forget your "straplocks" when you buy it!

Simply Amazing

By Brian M-_B--J

from Anaheim Hills, CA

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I got this bass a little over 6 years ago. Originally I wanted to play Warwicks, but after playing this for a while and a few other Spectors, I found that Spector has the best feel and sound of any bass. Warwick is a close second. I have played many Spectors, and for this cheap of a price, this bass is an amazing deal. If you are looking to spend little money and get a lot, this bass is for you.

Comments about Spector Legend Classic 5-String Bass:

I got this bass for Christmas over four years ago, and ever since then, I've just loved it. The tones you can get are incredibly versatile. You can get some great metal, punk, and rock tones. But at the same time, you can get fantastic jazz, blues, and funk vibes from it as well. This thing is a beauty and plays just as good as it sounds.
