Release Date:06/21/2011;Notes:(3-LP + 20 page booklet) This series accurately portrayed a vast cross section of the Chicago blues scene as one could hear it on any given night in the mid-'60s. Rather than record full albums, each artist simply came in for a union-approved session of four to six songs, with each volume featuring three different groupings. With these recordings, blues suddenly gained respectability as something much more vital and vibrant than just a poor cousin of jazz. This new packaging puts all three volumes together, but with no bonus tracks, as no extras were recorded for these sessions. A plus in the new packaging, is that it features a nice booklet withdetailed, updated notes from Samuel Charters, a nice appreciation from Ed Ward, and absolutely eye-boggling session photos taken by Charters' wife, Ann. Personnel: J. B. Hutto, Junior Wells, Otis Spann, Otis Rush, Jimmy Cotton, Johnny Shines Blues Band, Johnny Young's South Side Blues Band, Homesick James, and Big Walter Horton's Blues Harp Band with Memphis Charlie Musselwhite. Tracks: Help Me (A Tribute to Sonny Boy Williamson), It Hurts Me Too, Messin' with the kid, Vietcong Blues, All Night Long, Going Ahead, Please Help, Too Much Alcohol, Married Woman Blues, That's the Truth Marie, Burning Fire, SP Blues, Sometimes I Wonder, Spann's Stomp, Cotton Crop Blues, the Blues Keep Falling, Love Me Or Leave, Rocket 88, West Helena Blues, Everything's Gonna Turn Out Allright, It's a Mean Old World, I Can't Quit You Baby, Rock, It's My Own Fault, Dust My Broom, Somebody Been Talkin', Set a Date, So Mean to Me, One More Time, Kid Man Blues, My Black Mare, Stealin' Back, I Got Mine in Time, Tighten Up on It, Dynaflow Blues, Black Spider Blues, Layin' Down My Shoes And Clothes, If I Get Lucky, Rockin' My Boogie, Mr. Boweevil, Hey Hey.;Special Attributes:180 GRAM VINYL
