Amazing Book and Full of Information

By RunDrumMan90

Comments about Hal Leonard The Latin Real Book - C Version:

I am a steel drummer player /percussionist and most of my gigs are solo with backing tracks I create through PreSonus.
This book has melody, bass, horn and rhythm charts. It has a Spanish dictionary for Latin music terms., It has a percussion index in the back for different styles of Latin music that shows bongo/conga/timbales auxiliary patterns for the different feels and styles. I am able to learn a song and create my back tracks easily with this book and it sounds very authentic. The only thing that might annoy people is that these arrangements are not always the most commonly recorded ones and there are recordings of these songs that have awesome sections that this book does not have.
If you are someone like me who wants to learn Latin music but didn't grow up in Miami, Cuba, or Brazil this is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door to playing and understanding all the parts of Latin music.

A Serious Fakebook!

  • Too Detailed For Beginner

Best Uses

  • Reference Latin Styles

Comments about Hal Leonard The Latin Real Book - C Version:

This book is too much for me. I'm not a serious latin player. I just wanted a fake book with melody leads and chords thinking it would include a lot of well known tunes. This book is for an experienced latin player who wants a lot more than that. I think I know enough to say that it is well done for what it is. But it isn't what I was looking for. It has a lot of melody, bass, and written out harmony sections. It looks like a piano transcription of latin jazz band charts. In other words, it's a lot more detailed than a typical fake book.
