OVERVIEW

Baer Model!

The MMVI Signature mouthpiece is a modified version of the Alan Baer Original CC mouthpiece. Using the design of the original, Alan Baer and Giddings and Webster added a flatter, narrower rim and additional mass around the throat. All of these features combined make a mouthpiece for the tuba player who likes a traditional flat rim with a sharper inner bite for their orchestral playing needs.

Euro shank makes a big difference on an already-great piece

Comments about Giddings Mouthpieces MMVI CC Alan Baer Tuba Mouthpiece:

I was playing the standard shank MMVI on a small-bore Conn BBb with excellent results. I like the size and the slightly sharper edge of the MMVI. When I got a M-W 6450/2 Baer, Alan urged me to get the Euro shank. He was right. I was surprised at how much of a difference it made. As they say: Mind the gap!

The only mouthpiece I use, perfect for CC and F

      • For me, literally everything

Comments about Giddings Mouthpieces MMVI CC Alan Baer Tuba Mouthpiece:

Both mouthpieces and musical sensibilities are so subjective, but here are my impressions. I love the rim. It's flatter with a tighter-radius inner edge than most, and I find it both comfortable and secure in all registers. It's also large, which I think contributes to the "tuba sound" that I prefer. I use this mouthpiece on both CC and F. To me the F is already a "beautiful" sound, and this CC mouthpiece pulls it a touch darker, strengthening the lower register with only a small trade-off in the upper range. I found no significant intonation issues with the large mouthpiece on the Miraphone Firebird F, and the intonation on the MW 6450 Baer is perfect.

For reference, my second-favorite F mouthpiece is the Denis Wick 2SL, and on BBb/CC the Wick AT2U. The huge Wick AT has a slightly bigger, darker tone, but is for me a bit harder to control.

At least at this moment, the MMVI CC is the only mouthpiece I use, and I own about a dozen. Oh, yes, and it comes in a lovely protective pouch. And it's stainless steel, so there's no plating to wear.

Comments about Giddings Mouthpieces MMVI CC Alan Baer Tuba Mouthpiece:

I will NEVER play a brass mouthpiece again!!! :: My first GW mouthpiece was the original Alan Baer, which is a great mouthpiece... BUT! This one is even better. And now that I have it I LOVE it more than the original. Its heavier metal and additional weight make the difference. I like this one for a BIGGER sound. And it delivers... Last concert I switched back and forth between my Caver & this Baer when the music demanded more volume and edge with excellent results. Consistent written middle Bb is happening! (d is possible) Louder, bigger tone than other MPs I have. I also play other GW mouthpieces for Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra & Pit Orchestra concerts. Horn: MiraFone BBb 184 (a smaller horn of 1980 vintage; not a newer MiraPHone but I love ?em all). The horn was purchased new with a Mirafone C4 mp. Also played this horn with a Conn/Helleberg. There was always something off with the sound using either the C4 or the C/H mouthpiece, especially the C/H. Pitch issues, tone issues, range issues, endurance issues. When I got my first G&W my range popped UP a full augmented 3rd. And the bottom range plays easier. Now the pitches slot and tone is improved. That's with all my G&W mouthpieces. With my G&Ws I can not only compete for volume and tone with my smaller horn, but am easily heard. Lastly, Per Ivan Giddings of Giddings & Webster: American or Standard Shank is SMALLER European Shank is LARGER

Comments about Giddings Mouthpieces MMVI CC Alan Baer Tuba Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece is the best. The color of tone i get on this mouthpiece is incomparable. I consistently get compliments on my tone and beat out my competitor by ten points out of 2000 for first chair overall on my all state audition all because of my sound. The switch from my Helleberg was easy and the mouthpiece did the work for me. Great buy!

A Gift From the Tuba God!!!

Comments about Giddings Mouthpieces MMVI CC Alan Baer Tuba Mouthpiece:

This mouthpiece is so great, It will forever remain the mouthpiece I use for orchestral work. The stainless steel produces a tone like no other and the design of the Alan Baer MMV1 CC makes it ideal for those seeking that powerful sound that supports as well as penetrates an ensemble. I have tried the Bach mouthpieces, Yamaha, Shilcke, Mike Finn, Helleburg but this one just blew them all away. This thing made me first alternate to the Texas High School All-State Band. This is well worth the money for all those who desire perfection!
