Easy to play, easy to like.
This is the Parduba Harry James Double Cup trumpet mouthpiece. It is available in a variety of sizes. it is an easy to play, great sounding mouthpiece that makes upper register playing easier and more comfortable. The Harry James models have an even shallower first cup. Harry adapted this mouthpiece in 1938 when he played a gig across the street from Parduba's shop. He fell in love with it, and played it steadily. It is a great design, and you owe it to yourself to try one. It may be just the solution you have been looking for.
The unusual design of the Parduba "Double-Cup" mouthpiece enables a great ease of playing in the high register. This is noticeable the first time you try this mouthpiece. After adapting to the design, it is possible to attain excellent control, and a beautiful tone.
Although the cup appears to be very shallow, the lower half of the cup gives great length to the overall shape of this Double-Cup design which in turn produces a very brilliant yet rich melodic tone.
The scientific reaming of the top of the cup furnishes the shallow tones and they come with the greatest of ease. G comes true. High B-flat comes as effortless and with as great volume as G is ordinarily produced. The extreme high tones, which occur occasionally in ordinary music and frequently in solo playing or in difficult passages, are produced easily and with full volume because the shallow upper cup puts them within reach by increasing the performer's range.
- Clearer and Higher Tones
- Rich Full Penetrating Tones Throughout Entire Registers
- Effortless Playing Ease
- Increased Endurance
- Balanced Breath Control

I have been using a Harry James Parduba Double-Cup mouthpiece for approximately 15 years. It is the most comfortable and best mouthpiece I have ever used. It is good for both the lower register and upper register. It produces an excellent tone in all registers.
I use a Parduba HJ Model #5 with a 1940's model balanced Paris Selmer. The combination, for me, is perfect for the type of work I do which is primarily dance/jazz group. I get a nice full tone and it's very easy on my chops. I wouldn't recommend it for a "legit" player who is looking for a darker sound. But, for a clear, compact tone with a lazer cutting quality - this is it!!
I'm 50 and a band/choir director for 29 years, and although I've played since I was 13, I don't play as often as when I was younger. However, I still play on weekends and this has been a great mouthpiece for me. I don't have the straightest teeth or as strong an embouchure as before, but the double cup allows me to get my full lower and upper registers with a full sound and control. I have a few friends that have switched to shallower cups for upper register but they've lost that nice lower register. The Parduba really is a cool design; I wish I'd found it years ago. Got one for my Bb, C, Piccolo and Flugelhorn!
