OVERVIEW

Transform your speakers into a wireless music streaming system.

You love your current speakers. But there’s a world of wireless music they just can’t access. Until now. Transform your stereo or home theater system by adding the SoundTouch Wireless Link adapter and stream music from your home Wi-Fi® or Bluetooth® devices. Use the SoundTouch app to control your music easily. You can even play music all throughout your home by expanding with other SoundTouch speakers. Make your speakers smarter: turn them wireless and stream the music you want. It’s that simple.

So, What Exactly Can Connect?
The adapter has three common inputs (optical, AUX and RCA), so anything that supports one of them can become a SoundTouch wireless music system. Most stereo systems, home theater systems and docking speakers are compatible—so chances are, what you have in your living room will work after a quick plug-in and setup. Already own a Bose system? Many of them are compatible, too, including most Lifestyle, CineMate, Wave, SoundDock and SoundLink products.

Exploring Music with SoundTouch
SoundTouch gives you wireless access to your favorite music services like Spotify® and Pandora®, plus Internet radio stations and your stored music library. They connect to your home Wi-Fi network so you can play music directly from the Internet to the system itself—or hear anything you want from a phone or tablet with Bluetooth technology.

Grow Your System
The beauty of SoundTouch systems is that they’re made to grow with you. If you start with the SoundTouch Wireless Link for your stereo receiver, you can add more anytime: it could be a SoundTouch 10 speaker for the kitchen, or a SoundTouch 20 speaker for the bedroom. Sync them all together to play the same music in every room, or different music in different rooms. They’re made for the way you live, and the way you listen.

A Free, Powerful App
The free SoundTouch app gives you control of your SoundTouch Wireless Link adapter from a smartphone or tablet. Use it to browse music—and control that music throughout your home. Start streaming instantly, or use the app to personalize the presets to your favorite playlists and stations.

Bluetooth Built in
SoundTouch systems feature Bluetooth connectivity to stream music from any compatible device—whenever you want. This allows you to listen to even more sources, like YouTube.

Have Speakers, But No Receiver?
If you have passive speakers, the SoundTouch SA-5 amplifier both powers them and connects to your home Wi-Fi network. So you’ll get a world of wireless music through your passive speakers, too. It makes it easy to listen anywhere around your home—even through outdoor speakers. The SA-5 amplifier is also part of the SoundTouch family.

Let me start by admitting I am not tech savvy. Most things, though, I can muddle through and figure out if I spend enough time. Most of the time it doesn't take long. This, however, took me hours to figure out. Shipping was fast. I received my Bose wireless link quickly. I already had a Bose color wireless speaker so I was ecstatic about getting this product because the other works so well. First off, you MUST go online and download the user manual. There is no way to use it without the user manual. It comes with several packets that one would think should be a user manual. No. Read. It. All. Do not try to figure it out on your own. It won't happen. Yes. I did do that.  No dice. Then, download the sound touch app On your smartphone or tablet AND your computer. It took some time for the wireless link to connect to my wireless and then my phone through Bluetooth. Then it miraculously happened. I honestly don't know what I did to succeed. Then I took a break. I was tired. Came back literally a week later. I'm moving states and it was thanksgiving. So, when I came back I downloaded it to my computer . That took 1.5 hours because while the manual tells you where to go to download the app, it doesn't say how. You must go to the soundtouch website and select the product and scroll to the bottom where it Gives you the option to download to a computer. Then my computer would not let me download the app because of something about administrator won't allow me even though I'm logged in as the admin. So I had to Google how to change my settings so I could download the app . Now we've got it downloaded to my computer. Then I had to go into account in the computer app and add new system. Connect it by USB which is not provided in the packaging. Good thing I had one for my smart phone because it was needed. Took two tries to get it connected. Put in my WiFi password as requested on the computer app. Connects. Select continue. So I run into the living room and using the aux cable plug my Bose link into my record player. I return to the computer room and go to settings where I click on connect by aux port. Then I click on sync computer library music to app. It syncs and also syncs to my smart phone. I press play. Run into the living room and turn up the volume. And it works. So...yeah...it works. But it took me hours to get there. And it will be a great tool but I'm literally exhausted and honestly at this point would just prefer to stick with the wireless speaker. It took me seconds to connect that. Its a great device but probably better for someone more versed in electronics.

Perfect solution to my audio dilemma!

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

I recently moved into a brand new home that had pre-wiring and bracing in the walls. The mount on the wall had two HDMI outlets and a power outlet but NO audio hookup. I was unable to use my Bose 3-2-1 surround sound for regular TV viewing or with my AppleTV when I have parties. This adapter allows my TV to connect to the older Bose system via Bluetooth. It turns out a lot of newer TVs have Bluetooth compatibility. Now I can play music on my AppleTV and stream it through my Bose 3-2-1 AND also the other Sound Touch speakers throughout my house. It's perfect for parties!

Just what I needed

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

I have a Bose Cinemate II for the main TVs in both our homes. And while we use Bose SoundTouch radios in both homes, I prefer to be able to play audio through the better-sounding Cinemates when the TVs are not in use. The SoundTouch Wireless Link (STWL) is perfect for that. I select one of the six pre-sets in our Sound Touch system (which can be easily changed via the app on my phone, iPad or MacBook) and the device outputs that audio to the RCA inputs of the Cinemate. The TV uses the optical input for the Cinemate. So when the TV is turned on, the Cinemate automatically overrides the audio input coming from the STWL and you hear the TV sound. Turn the TV off and the Cinemate switches back to the audio coming from the STWL. I can also send bluetooth audio to the SWTL if need be, but I rarely bother. I just wish this SWTL came with a remote like the SoundTouch radios do, so you could select any of your six presets without using the App on the phone, etc.

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

This product is just perfect for what it is intended for. It lets ,e keep my current stereo and speakers and use them to play my music I have on the phone. I love that I can still use my speakers for my home and hear my music. You spend money on these items and you hate to think they come up out dated. Well Bose fixed that for us! This item makes all good things possible by hooking up to our stereo and playing music through our home speakers from out phone. Set up was incredibly easy. Operation of the unit is also incredibly easy. I am a fan of all things Bose and this did not disappoint! I didn't like that my old stereo setup was just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. Bose has brought new life to an otherwise would be bygone product! Thanks Bose!

Great Product, Terrible Instructions

By Rich

from Undisclosed

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

Let me say at the outset that this is a great gadget with one caveat....the instructions both with the device and available online are the most inscrutable and difficult to follow I have ever encountered. On the plus side, Bose has excellent phone support with humans to walk you through it. When I examined the instructions, it appeared that the SoundTouch "hockey puck" would connect via your home wifi OR via Bluetooth. The written directions implied that all you had to do was install the Bose app and everything would be easy.....not so. After opening the app, the initial choices were not easy to make. Bose should say that Bluetooth only has a range of 30 feet while your home network extends to whatever parts of your home you already know. After about the third step, the app screen said, "Choose your speaker" and showed 11 of Bose's Bluetooth enabled speaker systems. I have a hard-wired home system hooked to a receiver and a 12 channel amplifier, I don't have any of their "speaker choices" they illustrated. Well, I didn't look close enough as buried in the middle of the pack was the "hockey puck" wireless adapter I purchased. It is NOT a speaker so the directions should not have been "choose your speaker" but "choose your device". After much (1 hour), pressing the "puck's" reset buttons, the Bluetooth button on top of the "puck" and back and fourth with my android phone's Bluetooth hookup, I finally got the system to play music from my phone (Pandora) via Bluetooth through my hard-wired home system. However the music would "dropout" periodically as I was at the 30 ft limit of Bluetooth (also separated by one floor). I have a strong home wifi and hoped I could hook the "puck" to it. Unfortunately, the instructions were of no help to do so. Fortunately, Bose as mentioned, has excellent product 1-800 phone support. The Bose tech confirmed that phone connection to Bose "puck" via WiFi was indeed possible and proceeded to walk me through it. Wow, what a difference!! I can walk around my house anywhere now, even out on the deck where I have outdoor speakers and the music is clear and unbroken. No way does Bluetooth have that range. Bose should do better on their instructions with detailed instructions for EVERY possible hook-up situation: wifi, Bluetooth, wired speaker system, Bluetooth speaker system. I am quite savvy with regard to computers and software but this installation really was confusing. As I said, now that the Bose "puck" is networked to my wifi as well as via Bluetooth, I can choose either one, however wifi is hands down better. However the wifi configuration will not play stuff from youtube from your phone. Wifi config WILL play Pandora and several other music apps as well as music on your phone. It is a GREAT device and by far EXCEEDS my expectations. I only wish Bose had made it easier to install.

Awesome product

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

Have a ST10,ST20, and now this wireless link adapter which is connected to some very old but nice Sony speakers. By experimenting, I have found that I have truly enhanced my listening experience by placing the ST20 and the Sony speakers with the wireless adapter in close proximity AND GROUPING THEM! I now have best of two worlds....the additional bass from my old Sonys along with the superb clarity and sharpness of my Bose. Now, I simply use the Soundtouch App's volume control under the group setting to customize according to what I am listening to. If I want more clarity for jazz, I go heavier on the ST20 and easier on the Sonys. If I feel like turning it up and rocking it out, I go a little heavier on the Sonys for extra bass, but can still hear and enjoy the clarity of the vocals and instrumentals from the ST20. Bose, the wireless link adapter is truly a winner and a great solution for people like me!! Now, if you could only do something about not having a sleep timer in the app. Just saying.....we have been asking for a loooooong time.

Now hear this! Easy setup, good value

By AnandRan

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

The Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link is a good product. It has brought new life to my 5.1 surround sound system purchased and installed a decade ago. I have spent some time getting to know the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link, as overall, it is a good product with potential to scale up and expand. Here are my impressions on the software, the solution, and the setup. SOFTWARE I admit - I am not a fan of the iPhone or iPad. I use a custom build (CyanogenMod) Android phone. The software required to complete the setup of the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link is available on the Google Play Store. SETUP It is a straightforward download and install. Once the software was setup on my phone, connecting the phone to the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link was easy. The app said software updates were available to download for the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link. Connected the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link to my home wireless network, downloaded the updates, connected the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link to my receiver with the included optical connector, and turned everything on. Done! THE APP There are a few bad reviews of the app. The current version has not crashed my phone - Bose must have addressed the bugs. It is intuitive enough and easy to use. BLUETOOTH Bluetooth support has to be one of the most important differentiators for the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link. With the SoundTouch we can stream directly to the Soundtouch Link via Bluetooth. The music can also be rebroadcasted to all other SoundTouch connected speakers. It works flawlessly and the sound quality is more than great for Bluetooth. Initial pairing is also simple. Just press the clearly marked Bluetooth button on the top of the unit and pair your device. GOOGLE MUSIC SUPPORT There is no native support for Google Music. I connected my phone (and my latptop) via Bluetooth to the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link, and can access my Google Music library on my phone/laptop. While it would be nice to have native support, this does not limit what the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link does. OTHER MUSIC SERVICES We subscribe to Amazon Prime so we love that their music service is available through the Bose app. Local internet radio stations also popped up on the app and could be listened to with just a touch. AUDIO QUALITY The sound quality is very impressive. I have not used the analog connectors that came with the Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link. The included optical connector works with my stereo receiver. Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link can also be used as a headphone DAC and amplifier. Definitely an upgrade in sound quality over the internal DAC of my laptop and Android phone. It is small and powers headphones very nicely. Just a note for you headphone enthusiasts. CONCLUSION The Bose Soundtouch Wireless Link will let you squeeze a few more years out of a system that may have been state of the art a decade ago.

Finally...now even my Marantz Receiver is happy!

By tarussell

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

I was excited when I saw that Bose was going to release this product that I pre-ordered it. The device connects my Marantz SR 5010 receiver and Definitive Technology speakers to my SoundTouch system. The footprint of the Wireless link adapter was about what I expected, and the device was super easy to setup. I know that some people are not happy that SoundTouch is moving away from Apple Play. I use Apple Play on several devices, however switching to Bluetooth for SoundTouch compatibility is not a big issue for me. The Wireless Link Adapter will appear and can be configured in the SoundTouch App just like a SoundTouch 20 or SoundTouch 30 device. There is a volume control for the Wireless Link Adapter that controls the gain giving me volume control to the Marantz receiver from within the Bose app. The sound coming from the SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter is exactly what I expected (And my expectations are high). I am excited to finally have my main stereo system apart of the SoundTouch system. Now I can configured all the rooms in the house with music.

First and for most, I love this adapter! The instructions however, I do not like. It was a little hard to get everthing hooked up and to get everything working. Overall, I am highly recommending this product to all my friends and family!

Detailed Review and Comparisons

By David W

from Undisclosed

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

When we first moved into our home there was no such thing as Bose Soundtouch. Yet, we loved Bose sound. So, in order to have music play in-sync in multiple rooms, we collected several Bose powered speakers (such as SoundDocks and Companion computer speakers) and connected them to Airport Express routers. The set-up gave my family that rich and detailed Bose sound wirelessly all throughout the home. We love our set-up but have never been completely happy with the way that Airplay works. Now, not only does Bose have SoundTouch speakers, but they produce this little Soundtouch Wireless Link adaptor. We are thrilled to be able to now have the Bose Soundtouch experience with our existing powered speakers. We have spent the past couple of weeks getting to know the SoundTouch Wireless Link. Here are our impressions with how it works and how it compares to our old system of streaming. SET-UP Easy. Just begin by downloading the App for your smartphone, tablet or computer. Next, plug the Soundtouch Link into power and then open the app. The app quickly recognizes the device and walks you through the rest of the set-up process. Honestly, it was easy and quick both on the iPhone and iPad. The app itself gave all the instructions needed when they were needed. I think most people will find nothing intimidating at all about the set-up process. THE APP I have read some reviews where people complain about the app. Bose must have fixed most of the problems because the app has worked near flawlessly for us. It is intuitive enough and easy to use. Not quite the standard of usability that we have come to expect with modern OS interfaces, but still usable and speedy. Beware of rare but lingering occasional hick-ups that no-doubt will be fixed with future updates. ITUNES LIBRARY We are very pleased that our current music collection on our computer pairs nicely with the SoundTouch ecosystem. The app itself contained the option to set-up our iTunes library. It told us how to download the same app on our Mac (or Windows) to complete the process. Now we can access the library (which remains stored on the computer) from our other mobile devices; easily streaming the music to Soundtouch connected speakers. Nice! OTHER MUSIC SERVICES We subscribe to Amazon Prime so we love that their music service is available through the Bose app. Local internet radio stations also popped up on the app and could be listened to with just a touch. My wife often listens to a specific radio station that she previously only could stream through the station's dedicated app. We found the same station on the SoundTouch app! It is now one of the six presets. I noticed some reviewers complain that there is no Apple Music streaming service through the Bose app. This is true, but you can still listen to Apple Music on SoundTouch. Just broadcast it via Bluetooth. BLUETOOTH Probably the greatest advantage of the Soundtouch Wireless Link over Airport Express and Airplay is the Bluetooth. AirPlay has no Bluetooth option at all. With the SoundTouch we can stream directly to the Soundtouch Link via Bluetooth AND the music is rebroadcasted onto all other SoundTouch connected speakers. It works flawlessly and the sound quality is more than great for Bluetooth. Initial pairing is also simple. Just press the well sized and clearly marked Bluetooth button on the top of the unit. AUDIO QUALITY The sound quality is very similar to, yet slightly better than that which comes out of our Airport Express routers. Of course, I am talking about my Bose speakers connected to the Soundtouch Link via the 3.5 mm analog audio jack. [The optical connection to a more expensive stereo would pass through the digital audio without converting it to analog. The optical option is great for those with existing expensive stereo receivers]. Everything we played via the Soundtouch sounded slightly more detailed, warm and dynamic than when streamed via our older set-up. This was true also on our new Computer MusicMonitors. We even connected the SoundTouch directly into our aging Bose Cinemate GS Series 2 home theatre system. Wow is it nice to make that system wireless! By the way, I think the SoundTouch Wireless Link also makes a great headphone DAC and amplifier. Definitely an upgrade in sound quality over the internal DAC of the iPhone or iPad. It is small and powers headphones very nicely. I get about twice the volume and much more natural sound. Just a note for you headphone enthusiasts :) FURTHER DETAILS The SoundTouch App provides the ability to correct a sync problem we had when we would stream to multiple speakers at once. We previously had no way to fix that. The audio delay is easily corrected with SoundTouch through the app. Nice! The only thing we miss about airplay is that it was built into the OS of our mobile devices. In other words, we could initiate a stream without having to open an app. With Soundtouch we have to go into the Bose app to begin a stream or make any adjustments (the exception is Bluetooth connected to the SoundTouch Link - this can be done in the OS). Not a huge deal, but it is a difference. CONCLUSION We really wish Bose SoundTouch existed several years ago when we were first began our whole house music set-up. We hope to eventually replace all our existing routers with this SoundTouch Wireless Link Adaptor. It just seems to work almost exactly as it should. Well done Bose.

Long Awaited Addition

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

Bought this just the other day and attached it to an old favorite compact CD system (I also own a Wave Radio CD with wireless and a SoundTouch 120 system). Over time I have found that the Bose SoundTouch application is a very easy way to expand listening choices and add simplicity throughout the home, and the addition of this product now revitalizes older equipment that still has useful life left. Setup is fairly straightforward, and once completed the system worked very well.

Comments about Bose SoundTouch Wireless Link Adapter:

I have had this product for 3 weeks. It took a minute for me to figure it out! Do not forget, I have no electronic hookup experience...lol I have a lot of music on my android phone and tablet. For entertainment and calm for my cat, I connect my tablet and leave it on all day without interruption. I have the product connected to my sound bar, which was easy. When I leave the music on from my tv with Wi-Fi connection, the channel I leave on is always off by the time I arrive home. I have not had any problems with the sound touch. I recommend this highly. I have included the hook up to my sound bar.
