Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
I have the 6.5" that came with my new set. Been playing 45 years and this is the sound I've been looking for. It's really a DW. I've had PDPs including Platinums and this ain't PDP though assembled in Mexico. Comes with DW wires, new MAG throw but standard end butt, lacquered interior without re-rings, X inner plies and 3mm! hoops. The batter head has a black dot underneath and the overall quality is DW. Hit it off-center and get a metal snare drum ring. You do hear the depth as well as the crack when played normally. Great snare drum if it fits your needs.
Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
I am very satisfied with this snare. After buying a PDP Concept Maple Kit in October, I decided to introduce myself to the DW line. I've always wished I could afford their drums. The features are beautiful. Pristine. The inner veneer is lacquered. Looking around the edges at all ten plies of maple, you can clearly see the same, high quality wood throughout the shell. Sometimes when you look at a mid to low level snare, you see the black, dead spots in the center plies. Not the case here. The DW Performance snare I have is the USA made one. The Mexican made Performance snares have the dual turret lugs (pictured on musiciansfriend). Mine has the quarter lugs. I'm very happy with the sound/tone. I've owned high quality maple snares in the past, and never thought I'd find a snare I enjoy playing more than my 2005 Pork Pie Maple Snare, but I have; and it's the Performance Snare.

I just received my 5.5" x 14" dw snare drum in black mirra two months ago, and the sound i got after replacing the stock head and putting a remo weatherking coated ambassador head on it, the change in sound was just amazing.this drum is well suited for any particular style of music. the wait for this drum was well worth it.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
When mic'd up this snare sings! I bought the performance series 4pc kit and got the 6.5 x 14 included. Love the kit overall and as with any DW product, its well made. The only issues I have is I hated the heads that originally came with it. changed them to Evans SD14 Genera HD and hazy 300 and got a way better tone. But Im still lacking in loudness that i want in the practice space or when not mic"d. I own a Tama starclassic 5.5 x 14 with diecast hoops and its my go to. I think it has a great tone overall and Im happy to own it but it is now my secondary snare.
Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
I was looking for a replacement for the tama Starclassic G Brass snare I sold a while back. I've had Birch and Brass snares before but this was my first maple. This sounded as good or better than the brass right out of the box. After some fine tuning it sounds amazing. A nice punch with a ton less ring than any other drum I've played before. I have the 6.5 inch deep one in Black mirra. My wife even says it sounds better than any other snare I've had. Always liked the Remo control sound heads and this was stock on it. No wonder they are having trouble keeping these in stock.
Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
I just got this snare for Christmas and oh wow, what a drum. I have the 6 1/2 and every time I play it, it just makes my set sound so much better. It doesn't matter what kind of gig you have, this snare can adapt to your style. The mag throw off is heavenly, smoothest I've ever owned. DW really made a wonderful drum here big time props.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
I have both a 6.5" & 8" deep. I "Collector-ized" the 6.5" that came with my set with changed hardware, including lugs. I only added stainless rods and the 3-position butt to the 8". The lacquered interior makes them both sound more like a black brass or other metal snare imho. Its hard to get them to not "crack" like a rim shot especially with the reverse dot head. And the body and depth suffers. For a long time I used an Evans Hybrid marching head to calm the 6.5" down. It took me over a year of experimenting with heads and wires to get the 8" to sound different than the 6.5" & try to get some depth. A Powerstroke Coated head with me slimming the width of the interior muffle ring finally worked with the stock wires. I regret buying the 8". The sound is not different enough. Been playing 53 years and played lots of snare drums. I would recommend the drum with these reservations.

Comments about DW Performance Series Snare Drum:
The snare drum is always the cheapest piece of a kit, but this one is one of the best snares I have heard in years. Even with the stock head, sounds great. If you own a Performance kit, you probably have the 14X61/2 snare drum. You can't crank it up too much, but the 14X51/2 is the real deal if you wish to tune it really high.
It would be also a great addition to an existing kit, wether you own a Design Series or a PDP kit. Not expansive and sounds fantastic !
