I wasn't expecting much when I paid the $1500 for the set. To an avid jazz drummer such as myself, the huge bass drum (for dropping "phat" beats, or whatever) and thick snare (which looks born and bred for rock-n-roll) usually loses-out to lighter, jazzier (and, subsequently), more expensive equipment. But when I took a closer look, the Force 3003 was underpriced. By a lot.Put some new heads on the snare and toms, and you've got a lot of diversity at hand. I tuned my snare up, and it gave me a great POP, perfect for jazz lines. I imagine that my tuning to a mid-range you could get a fantastic rock/funk sound. The toms are good, although there's a slight difference in the resonance of the high and low toms. The high seems a bit muffled when tuned UP, and the low resonates too much for my taste when also tuned UP.I'm one of those rebellious, daring kinds of drummers who likes to remove his middle tom and replace it with a low, jazzy ride cymbal. The Force 3003's dual-mount system is ideal for this sort of freedom. So you pay a pretty low price for a handsome (not gorgeous) drum set, throw in a set of mid-range cymbals (I have Sabian AAs), and invest in a couple of new heads (the factory remos are fine, though). What do you get?A surprisingly diverse set of sounds. A solid, well-designed core that keeps your instrument from sliding away on stage. A set that's worth a good $500 more than you paid.

Basically thats all I can say thats good about this set. Sound is what u expect (with better heads ofcourse) Color ofcourse is much duller than in the pictures. But the thing that really made me rate this so low overall is that you recieve the cheaper line of hardware than what is promised. You will not be recieving 400 series. 200 if you're lucky. You guys notice how all the other reviews sound like they're from the same person? Be surprised if they post this one.

awesome value kit

By T Bone

I have had this kit playing in a traveling rock band for three years. Put some good heads on these drums and they absolutely rock. We trigger the bass through a subwoofer and it blows people away. The drums are very durable, as are the stands. This is not just a great starter kit, although for the price it is a great entry kit. I have had so many compliments on how good this kit sounds. I would definitely buy Sonor again in the future. Don't pass up this great deal if you need a kit.

Surprisingly Great!

By Kimrob

from Rochester, NH

WOW, I am new to drums and bought these in Dec. of 05 (white sparkle) and am very happy. They sound incredible, although I will admit that the Bass drum sounds a little weak, but I will be putting on an aquarian superkick II so that should solve that small problem. You really cannot go wrong with this kit. I don't know much about other sets besides looking at them in stores and I can't find one in this range with hardware this good.

Incredible

By Bee-bAXBh

I just received this set in Dec. 2005,and I cant believe the sound this kit puts out incredible. The snare rings somewhat though. I cant get it sounding like I want. Anybody got any advice. I recommend this set to anybody. And the way it came packaged, great job guys. I used to play pearl but not no more, I'm sold on this kit.

You will not be sorry with the sound or quality of these drums! The bass sounds huge and the toms sound much better than the ones on the Ludwig accent kit that this replaced. The tom mounts concerned me at first, but after you play them your doubt quickly fade..With new heads, I think I will play these forever!! Hurry though because these will be replaced with the 3005 series and you will miss out on this great price....

Blown Away in PA

I am 42 years old and have been a drummer nearly all of my life. I have played professionally for many years. I have owned seven pro kits. I got out of the business a few years back and got a "real job". Just got this Sonor kit to leave at a friend's studio and I got to tell you that this kit is a great deal. The craftsmanship is outstanding with flawless paint, wonderful woodworking and tough hardware. You would have to spend thousands for a kit made to these standards in the states. The hardware is all you will ever need unless you are a touring drummer. This is a beautiful, warm sounding kit. Try using Aquarian heads. I still can't get over the price of this set. you gotta be kidding. This is by far the best deal out there. You snooze you lose. Blown away in PA!

Hot, Hot, Hot

By Boomerzdrummer

WOW! I was looking to buy a used or entry level kit to use for practice only and came upon this Sonor set at an incredible price! I chose the red maple and it is absolutely beautiful. It is far nicer than advertised and the pictures don't do it justice. From the packaging to the hardware to the drums themselves, you will not find a better set for the money...anywhere! Hurry before they are all gone.

Great buy for Moneyus

By Justin Clark

from Berwick, LA

This set is great for a skilled purcussionist who has been playing for a while. It is also an awesome buy for the amount of money you pay. The hardware is the best I've seen for the money. The cymbal stands never have moved once. Believe me when I say that its quality i've been playing for more than ten years

This is the most beautiful set I have ever seen. I got it in white sparkle. I don't like the sound as much as my Tama Rockstar Custom. The kick does not get a very good thump. I really struggled to get the snare drum to sound good. The toms are great. The hardware is okay. I've had both cymbal stands slip on me. The hi hat pedal sucks. The kick drum pedal is fairly sturdy for a single chain drive, but I use an Iron Cobra.

Unbelievable Hardware

By Had2getaRealjob

from Loveland, OH

When I toured in Europe, our drummer went to Germany to pick up his custom-made Sonor set. I remember him talking about the quality, esecially the hardware. This set lives up to those expectations completely. Everything from the ordering process, deliver and quality, QUALITY product just made Christmas for us. This is my son's first set and maybe his last. It's is professional enough to gig with right out of the box. Great job - Thanks!

Best Bang for the Buck

Ask me a question

I just replaced my 20-year-old Ludwigs with this set and was amazed at the quality of the design of the hardware, shells, and wrap. Price was a very big factor and I got more than my money's worth. I got the black sparkle and it looks great under lights. The sound is fantastic. They were delivered fast and packed extremely well. There was a lot of assembly, but that only required patience -- I actually enjoyed it. I only had one complaint and it was easily remedied. The snare drum strainer throw off is terrible and almost takes two hands to use. I bought and installed a Ludwig P85 (it's been around forever, available anywhere, and isn't expensive at all). I had one on my Ludwigs and it worked flawlessly for 20 years. Now my set is perfect. Since I like swing, pop, and soul music, I will eventually switch the Sonor heads (Remo Ambassadors made in China) with American made coated Ambassadors on my snare and toms. The stock Sonors on the bass are actually Remo Power Stroke 3 and are perfect for me -- they look good, too, with that big Sonor logo.

Awesome Deal and Price

By mvSWAT

I was very pleased with this drum kit. It looks awesome sitting on the platform at my church. I chose Zildjian Titanium cymbals to accent it. While there was nothing wrong with my (black) Pearls that these replaced I wanted the Sparkle White color. Sound great. Just simply awesome!

Excellent, out of the box. Extremely high quality. Very well packed by Sonor; I was amazed it all was in the two fairly small boxes, yet was setup and ready to go in an hour, since really mostly together. Tuned up fast and easy.

Wow...I just got this set in last night and it's awesome. I got the black sparkle finish and it's beautiful. The hardware that comes with this set is top-notch, not the super-lightweight kind you usually expect from an entry-intermediate drum set. The stock heads are pretty good, but I'll probably get some Aquarian Studio heads soon. The sound of the set is great, the toms sound wonderful and the snare has a great crack. The bass drum has the big boom that every rock drummer needs to drive the music. I'd definitely recommend this set to anyone.

The Drummer's Drum

By G Paul

I have a Sonor catalog from the 80's called The Drummer's Drum. This set proves that statement correct. This set lived up to every expectation. First of all, this is the nicest hardware I've ever seen. Every detail has been wll thought out. The foot pedal is amazing! The workmanship on the drums is flawless. You have to look for the seams on the shells. The projection is great, a nice rich sound. The finish beautiful - I purchased the Purple Indigo. This is the one of nicest sets I've ever played on. This is a lot of drum for the money. Quite a value.

sonor force 3003 kit

By Tim Pouliot

from Attleboro, Ma

Great sounding kit for the money. Good solid hardware that stands up against other top brand names. Good kick bass drum that's has bottom. Stock heads with O-rings sound great or use Remo coated Ambas. heads. Great finish and detailed chrome on hardware and lugs. I use Ludwig super classic set and Yamaha recording custom on gigs. The Force 3003 kit sounds just as good as both of my old sets. I bought the Force 3003 for rehearsals but I've been using them on gigs they sound so good.

Great mid-level kit

By BamBam

from The Colony, TX

See all my reviews

I've used both Sonor and Pearl throughout my drum experiences and I definately prefer Sonor (not to knock Pearl). I've always been impressed with the lugs and mounting hardware Sonor uses, and this set was no letdown. This was my first new Sonor kit and I was happily surprised by the quality of the accessory hardware. The boom stand and high-hat are beefy. The kick drum sounds smooth and booming. The snare will need some work to sound as nice as the rest of the kit, but stock snares rarely shine. Overall the kit looks goregous and sounds just as hot.
