Ideal for small clubs or street musicians.

With a tight footprint and Tama quality, the Silverstar Metro-JAM is a perfect drum set for the active urban percussionist clinging to the acoustic realm. Using proven materials and the proprietary mounting hardware, Tama has extracted the best possible tone out of the smallest possible setup.

With a baseline of 100% birch shells and the classic Star-Mount system, the drums churn out a punchy attack with dry resonance. The shells are crowned with triple-flanged hoops for sharp, cutting rimshots, while low-mass lugs ensure a low profile and reliable tune. The drums are also finished with a glue and tape-free wrap to ensure maximum sonic output.

Comments about Tama Silverstar Metro Jam 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Compared to the Ludwig ?uestlove Breakbeats Kit, the Tama Metro Jam Kit blows the Ludwigs out of the water. The Tama kit is the same price and made from better wood, and has much higher-quality hardware. (And this from a die-hard Ludwig user!)

The sound of the birch shells are rich and resonant, the 16" bass drum sounds surprisingly fat and thumping, the 10" rack tom sings, and the 13" floor tom easily sounds as deep as a 14" model.

The hardware on the drums is the same as the rest of the Tama SilverStar line...the tom mount is excellent, with a receiver for a Tama cymbal arm (sold separately). The stock heads are not great, but serviceable. I replaced the kick batter head with a Remo PowerStroke 3 and it made ALL the difference in the world. I replaced the stock rack tom and floor tom heads with Evans G2 coated heads(2-ply ), and the drums just sang. REALLY deep sounds!

The bass drum lift works great (much better than the Ludwig ?uestlove kit), and easily makes it possible for your bass drum beater to hit dead center (or near dead-center) of the drum. The floor tom legs are shorter than you would normally see on a kit, but that definitely reduces weight when transporting the set. I sit higher than most drummers, and the tom legs are just a tiny bit shorter than I prefer, but not enough to bother me.

Again, hardware is great, shells are great, size and value-for-money is excellent. I have used this kit in small café gigs to screaming punk rock clubs and the sound is incredible.

Miked, the kit explodes! I had a sound guy laughing as I set this kit up in a large (500 capacity) music hall for a high-energy loud rock'n'roll gig. He said, "What are you doing with those TOYS?!" He miked them up, and did a quick sound check on the kit, and then said, "God, that bass drum RULES! It sounds like a little cannon!" Enough said.

Comments about Tama Silverstar Metro Jam 4-Piece Shell Pack:

I've been Google-researching and hesitant purchasing a lower-priced second kit - a kit that would easily set up and break down and most importantly have the sound that I have grown accustom to. I believe I've finally found it and that is Tama's 'Siliverstar Metro Kit.' My main kit is a Japan-made Tama birch Starclassic which I've been using for the past 12 years and transitioning using the Silverstar Metro was no problem at all! Straight out of the box the drums had the volume and depth that are characteristically known with birch shells. That's what got my attention during my search was the shell material (100% birch) compared to the competitor's lower-priced kits that commonly use poplar woods in keeping prices down. And if you've been playing drums as long as I have you know, that you know, the real stuffing is in the type of wood!

      Reality Check:
Regardless if these drums are manufactured in a country that most of us would have very little confidence in, never the less, the quality and attention to detail is incredible. Tama and their commitment to quality production was certainly in the driver seat when manufacturing outside their home town of Japan
Using triple flanged rims doesn't make very much difference in maintaining tuning to me. After fine-tuning the kit to a very jazz vintage sound the shells permeated the lounge and fitted well with the music. I could not only hear the resonance of the shells on each hit and feel it as well. The drums don't fight against you but rather works with you. Some of you know what I'm talking about. The shells are shallow than wider being it's Tama's hyper sensitive design which is used on their higher end kits.
      Tama's Reknown to Kick!
What can I say but that this little kick coming in at only 16" circumference produces a huge sound notable with most if not all kicks made by Tama. Very deep/sharp attack and when the snare is on you can hear even more resonance which makes the kit a well balanced instrument. I recommend it!!

Comments about Tama Silverstar Metro Jam 4-Piece Shell Pack:

Bass drum lift is not removable. Makes it hard and more expensive to find a suitable carrying bag. Had to go to a 16 x 20.
