OVERVIEW

A Tama signature sonic recipe of birch and bubinga.

The magic tonal fusion of birch and bubinga is now represented in the Tama Sound Lab Project line. Bearing a beautiful exterior ply of matte-finished white oak, the Tama S.L.P. Backbeat Snare makes a stunning centerpiece. But, the drum's best qualities stem from the bubinga birch blend inside. Marrying the rich, dark tonality of three interior Bubinga plies with the cracking projection of four Birch out plies, this snare matches remarkable sensitivity with profound depth as greater striking pressure is applied.

Comments about TAMA S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch Snare Drum:

Tama has delivered a high quality sounding snare at an affordable price point!!! This snare sounds great, super sensitive, very articulate at all dynamic levels. I've wanted to add a Bubinga snare to my arsenal and this fills that need. The Bubinga/Birch blend is wonderful. I'd say the sweet spot is definitely in the medium to high tuning range. However you can coax some nice lower thud/slap as well. I ordered an Evans UV1 and changed the head after playing the Black Chrome. Now the drum really sounds amazing. I would say the coated had has brought out more of the low pitched qualities of the drum. It has a nice dense full body to the sound with a great crack on rim shots. Drum also feels very good even when not super cranked up.
The dual snare adjustment is smooth and tight. No snare wires loosening on this drum! Includes StarClassic snare wires.
Tension rods and lugs are smooth but feel solid. I really like that Tama used their "Hold Tight" washers on the tension rods.
*Warning, Tuner Fish lug lock will not fit properly. The head on the tension rod is taller, so the tuner fish sit slightly higher then the rim, therefore if you happen to play a rimshot near that tension rod you will make contact with the lock and not the rim. I'll have to pick up some of the little square locks for the batter head instead. Not a big deal, just thought I'd pass that on...
My only gripe is the finish. It's a wrap, technically not lacquer as listed in the description. Small notch in the top of the shell which I will show in a picture. Not sure if this was an accident, or just how the shell/finish is manufactured. I'll definitely inquire with Tama. The finish on the wrap looks great though and I really like the color.

Comments about TAMA S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch Snare Drum:

Great snare! I needed a new main touring snare. Always hard to find a great 13". Forgot it came with a black evans head but looks great. The drum looks stunning. The darker hardware with the sparkle is eye catching. When you catch your guitarist a couple times checking it out during rehearsal you are good. Only played it once and only took 1 min to get it into playing shape. I will try to get a video out soon for how it plays.

Comments about TAMA S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch Snare Drum:

This is a great drum for the price. S.L.P snares are top notch. Great crack and presence with this drum. Great body for a 13 inch snare. Black chrome head is a little ringy but is easily dried up with moon gel.Snare sounds great in all tuning areas but really shines in medium to high tuning. Looks killer as well. A fun drum to play.

Comments about TAMA S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch Snare Drum:

Throaty, full sound. Crisp. The head it comes with has a lot of ring to it. If you like a drier sound, you'll need to change the head or apply moon gel. It sounds great.

Comments about TAMA S.L.P. Backbeat Bubinga Birch Snare Drum:

Birch bubinga. Enough said. This sucker can be cranked up for the nastiest crack with dark undertones or tuned low for a great slap. There are very few situations that I couldn't see myself using this snare. You really can't beat the quality and sound of this snare for the price. Not to mention the finish is absolutely stunning. My only complaint is that this snare could use die cast hoops instead of triple Flange.

As most Tama drums, bearing edges, finish are top notch...quick tune of the drum yielded a nice fat sound with lots of presence..Definitely cut thru most types of music....

This is a great sounding drum right out of the box . I personally changed all heads and strainer . I've alway been a huge Tama fan and this drum reinforces my thoughts of the company. I use this drum mainly at church but , it's great in every situation.
