I've been using this snare for three years now. It has a high pitched dry sound that I would liken to a piccolo snare. It is extremely loud as well. Rim shots are nothing short of explosive. I don't have to mic it when I play smaller 200-300 capacity venues. But the fact is, I can't get it to sound like anything other than a heavy metal or reggae snare. The snare throw is cheap and the drum just won't stay tuned. One tuning lug on the batter side in particular comes loose after only a few songs and I have to retune after every set. Bottome line, I love the sound of this drum when it is working correctly but that doesn't last long. I've been wanting a new snare for some time now.

    Do you want to rock?

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I've owned the 13 for two years now. it's one of my favorites from my collection to use live. But I prefer a metal drum to record with... This drum is SUPER LOUD.. It sounds decent tuned low, but sounds amazing cranked up a bit. I use an aquarian hi-energy batter, and a classic clear snare side... It's very responsive at high or low volumes ... I would say this is the best snare for the money.

    Great Snare Drum

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I have been playing drums for over thirty years. After owning a Musashi snare for almost a year, I am completely overwhealmed by it's performance. This drum possesses that highly sought after "crack" plus the warmth that make it the complete snare drum that most eperienced drummers are seeking in this day and age. Please don't miss the opportunity to own one of these drums. I've played DW, Pearl, Noble & Cooley, and this snare can compete with any of the higher echelon brands. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own one.

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

    Excellent thick oak shell.
    Fair hoops.
Heads need replacement with a more dry
batter, and more sensitive resonant head.
    Strainer mechanism ok, but recommend
    replacing wires.
    Good snare, easily tunable.
    Great deal for the price

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I recently purchased the 13" Musashi snare drum and am totally impressed with the quality and versatility of this drum. It is loud; but also allows graceful ghost notes. I currently own over 40 snare and this is definitely one of my favorites. Very versatile: at home at outdoors gigs and worship services. I would not hesitate to use this snare in any musical setting.

    Exactly what I wanted

    By Wrath 222

    from Medford, MA.

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

Beautiful, solid drum. I tune it up high with the Genera dry head(no ringing ,no buzz) and get the sharp high pitched crack like a metal drum, but not over the top.( I had tried out the Pearl Chad Smith Signiture)It has depth to the sound just like many here who reviewed it said. It is the exact sound I was looking for. What can I say I'm in love!

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I recently acquired one of these drums.I was hesitant due to it being a 13" drum.It ROCKS!!I have over 15 snare drums and this one has quickly become one of my favorites. It has great response and tuning range.I keep it a little lower for a sick back beat.

    By Dave-07nvT

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I have had this snare for about 6 months, and I love it. The snare loud as hell, the best way some one put it, is that it's like getting punched in the head. I would have to say for the money it's the best snare you can buy.

Sounds fantastic, but needs a little help

    By vhaghar

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I originally bought this snare to play on a prog-metal recording that I was playing on at Ironwood Studios in Seattle. (one of the best sounding live rooms for drums in the whole northwest!) The sound of this snare was fantastic, and worked well for everything from fast technical stuff that needs great definition, to slow Isis/Neurosis type stuff that just needs to be heavy and cut through really well. Best sounding snare in this price range. That being said, as it comes straight off the shelf, it has to be tuned not just frequently, but ALL the time. Sometimes I couldn't even make it through a whole song without having to stop to tighten the lugs. Also, the throw for the snares is cheap, and tends to stick in the off position, so I actually had to pry at the part that slides up while pulling on the lever to get it on. Fantastic sounding snare, but has some definite (fixable) technical issues.

    Excellent studio snare

    By Nodiggie-TESTIFY

    from California

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I recently finished recording with this snare. I only replaced the batter head with a coated G2. I was very surprised and happy with the overall tone we were getting out of it. The sound engineer was very impressed with the unique sound and projection. Great for Fusion,Funk,Light Rock or Gospel. I could not get heavier deep tones for certain Rock tracks. I am going to purchase the 13" twin and see if I can make get a little punchier sound from it. Overall out of 7 snare drums I own, I play this snare the most.

    It wont let you down!!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I was kind of cautious on investing in this particular snare drum, but I said it wont hurt to try it, and sure enough....It didn't!!! From day one this snare has satisfied my playing situations. I couldnt even think of another drum to replace it with. I suited with Evans HD Dry on the batter side, and Evans Hazy 300 snare side, and it gives me a remarkable clean, and consistent sound. Has natural power, and not as much overtones. I agree the throw off could be a little more sturdier, but for the sound it is worth it!!! Go and Get it!!

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

A beautifully manufactured drum, Yamaha never ceases to amaze me what they can do with their finishing techniques. This drum has great sustain and attack. I thought of using it as an effect snare, but it's great as a main snare too.

    Great Snare

    By Jeff Zeiders

    from Virginia

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

This is by far the best sounding snare I have ever played on. This is definitely a wood drum, but it outputs a touch of a brass or copper shell snare. It provides that rare mix of warmth with bite. When cranked up, it rings and sounds as good as any drum and bass or jungle electronic drum, but when tuned loose, you hear the oak come through. By the way, it looks simply amazing. The pictures do no justice. Definitely, buy this drum. (I bought the 12" with the groove. Great Product)

    My favorite snare

Comments about Yamaha Musashi Oak Snare Drum:

I have 6 snares, including a DW Edge, Pork Pie 13x5, Mapex Black Panther piccolo, 14x9 brass, 10" DW popcorn, and my Musashi 13". I am a DW fan by far but my heart goes to my Musashi snare. It cuts better then any wood drum I have ever used and does not have any bad overtones (as my friend puts it, "the hwwwaaaang factor"). This is truly my favorite snare live and for recording. Very versatile and just beautiful all the way around.
