This was a purchase that met the need of electric / acoustic ukelele. The tone and sustain are decent for such a low priced ukelele. I have a Martin, solid KOA uke, and other deluxe concert instruments. Only a seriously trained player will be able to justify paying over 2K for another instrument. This little tenor will do just nicely for the intermediate player. This is a nice instrument to take to small shows or on the road. Save your money and buy this instrument and focus on practicing and developing your technique instead of over paying for an instrument that you may never grow into. Overall, this is a solid C- instrument for a serious player and more than adequate for an intermediate player. Beginners will also benefit from the consistent playing that this uke offers for such a reasonable price.

You will be hearing from me shortly. I am EXTREMELY dissatisfied with this product and I am seriously dismayed by your misleading advertisement, because firstly, the pic that you use to show this product portrays a totally different color tone (brown) than the one you sent me (orange), and secondly, the match-up of the face laminated pieces is pitifully poor, in color tones and in grain appearance. In addition to that, the action is terrible and there are several minor flaws in the finish. I am going to request that you allow me to send back this product, on YOUR dime shipping-wise, as I priced it yesterday at the post office and it will cost almost twenty-three hundred cents with insurance for twenty-thousand cents. In addition, if you can't send me a replacement that is consistent in color with your advertised product, and has acceptable-appearing laminations (and I'll want to see clear and conclusive pics of the uke before you send it), I will expect a full refund, with no deductions made for your initial free shipping.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

This in my third Uke. I'm a Guitar player so the Uke is just for fun. It is made in China but build quality is good nice solid instrument. The electronics are installed good so they don't move or vibrate wile playing. The tuners are just ok they do the job. Stays in tune good. The tone is great "IMO" plugged in it really comes alive.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

Got this as a gift for my daughter, who has been playing a soprano ukulele for the past year or so. She loves the "extra room" that the tenor gives her. The Fishman pick-up with the built-in tuner is very useable. Mahogany body give a nice, full tone.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

The electronics sound very good, but the fretboard is not very smooth and there is quite a bit of buzz. This is actually my second one. I returned the first because the buzz was so bad it was virtually unplayable. After tuning, adjusting, and restringing, it still has buzz at certain frets.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

Initially I was Leary of buying this model because of the negative comments of a few posters, but then I looked at reviews on other web sites. Glad I did, there were much fewer negatives, and more encouraging. No buzz problems, electronics are solid and steady/ consistent. Intonation good all up the fretboard, fret edges are smooth ( can't feel the edges at all when playing), action is suitably low, finish is acceptable for this price range, very comfortable to play, nice inlay job (although a couple of the snowflakes on fretboard are a bit "muddled-looking" but no big deal for me). I love picking it up on those spur-of-the-moment inspirations. I'm very pleased I bought this tenor uke. Gretsch still has it together.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

I am a lead-guitarist uke player, so I need an instrument that responds consistently throughout the entire fretboard. Unfortunately neither of the 2 Gretsch G9121 ukes that you have sent me have accomplished this. The first one had terrible action. The 2nd one's action is better, but it has several notes that don't sustain or have annoying overtones. Also the A string's volume when amplified is significantly lower than the other 3 strings, causing my lead lines to disappear when they travel to the A string. I suspect that this problem may be the result of your attempt to lower the action by filing down the bridge. My guess is that the lower side of the bridge under the A string may not be making full contact with the transducer strip. I was hoping this instrument would be an economical solution to my live performance needs, but so far the 2 ukes that I have received from you have not achieved that goal. The top face is 3-piece laminate, which I thought was rather unusual, but the color blend and the grain match-up are better than the 1st G9121 that you sent me.There is also a very noticeable finish blemish near the bridge on the A string side. I will be contacting you about returning this item.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase with the discount. I did not want to spend a lot on a Uke as I primarily play guitar. I liked the fact that it came with a case which will suit my needs quite well.

The Bad ... The fret ends were sharp and ragged. Obviously not a lot of work was done here to finish/polish.. The fretboard and strings were also very sticky. Not sure why, but they were. The back of the Uke has some finish blemishes. Rough spots where the wood was somewhat rough in some areas and did not fully take the stain.

The Good ... Beautiful solid Mahogany top. Again, it's not perfect, but the Uke overall looks very nice and the stain really sets off the grain (just don't look too close). I also like the tone, the Grover tuners, and the Fishman pickup. It sounds very natural when plugged into an amp.

I've build over 100 Cigar Box Guitars so have done a lot of fretwork. I ended up pulling off the strings and cleaned them with warm water to remove the sticky substance. Then worked on the frets. Used a 300 grit wet sand paper, then steel wool to buff up the fret ends, frets, and fretboard. Then gave the fretboard and body a good rub of linseed oil. With that, I put the strings back on and am happy with the Uke.

I saw some other posts about issues with the frets. It's a fairly easy fix if you attempt to do it yourself. You could pay to have a luthier properly set it up, but that would cost you some $$. Just part of the overall consideration.

With the work I did, I'm happy with the Uke.

Comments about Gretsch Guitars Root Series G9121 Tenor A.C.E. Ukulele:

I am a first time ukulele player, and after doing some research, settled on this uke. I have had it for a week, have practiced a lot, and love it! I really like it as an acoustic, but the electronics are good too. The built in tuner works great, and the strings stay in tune while playing. I came to find out that strings, especially nylon strings, stretch out, so you do have to tune when playing for long periods of time or letting it sit, but that's normal. Some reviews of other ukes say tuning is a problem - but not with this uke, stays in tune and easy to tune! When I got my uke, there was a slight buzz. After doing some research and finding out the multiple causes of buzz in acoustic string instruments, I was able to locate the buzz and fix it easily. There are guides everywhere on uke tab websites about helping you get rid of buzz, as it is a more common uke problem. So don't sweat the buzz if yours comes with a little! Lastly, this uke is made of some good wood. I was even able to safely screw in some guitar strap buttons and play with a strap! I am loving this uke, and will play it for years to come.
