TO BE DETERMINED

By Suzanne

Comments about Kala Mahogany Travel Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

My Kala ukulele was delivered eleven days ago, and I'm taking it to a local ukulele shop today for evaluation. The day after it was delivered I noticed a small "razor cut" on the edge of the sound hole. It appears to have the potential of snagging and getting bigger, like a hangnail, so I'm concerned. Also, the A string wavers all over the place. I'm new to all this, so I don't know if it's the string or the instrument, but something isn't right. At this point I really don't know if I would give it four stars, but a response was required.

Comments about Kala Mahogany Travel Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I play jazz standards on it with different bands. This is the 4th one I purchased. The first one had a factory cracked top, the second one had a messed up finish and the third one sounded dead and had a terrible action. So Kala has poor quality control on these but there is nothing like them so this is the only slim UKE made.

Comments about Kala Mahogany Travel Tenor Acoustic-Electric Ukulele:

I have 2 of the Concert Travel Ukes. They are both wonderful. A few months ago I ordered the last one Musician's friend had. The spruce on the top was factory cracked and they had tried to cover it up. It sounded fine. I returned it, and waited until they got new ones. The next one had a cut in the top where the planer had chopped a bit of the wood. There was a sticky stuff right on top of the gouge like uncured finish, I rubbed it off with my finger. It got returned. Now I have one that has absolutely no problems in the finish. The problem is the neck angle is wrong. Meaning I cannot file the bridge saddle low enough to get a decent action, as I am a soloist and play a lot in the upper third of the fretboard. The other thing is it is acoustically kind of dead. The other ones with their cosmetic flaws at least sounded good. I am ordering a 4th one and keeping my fingers crossed.
