Don't Forget

The true sound of Hawaii, with rare koa wood from the islands.

The Lanikai CKCGC Concert Ukulele delivers sweet sound thanks to its rare wood and quality construction. The classic uke design and woodwork is improved with attention to detail that has made Lanikai a preferred name in ukuleles.

The concert size ukulele is just a bit bigger than a soprano uke, and smaller than a tenor. This size is particularly helpful for performers with larger fingers, and the slightly larger body delivers a louder and deeper tone.

The Lanikai CKCGC ukulele's curly koa wood top, back, and sides generate well-balanced tone. Its construction is solid, and its looks are breathtaking. Used in making ukuleles for over a century, rare Hawaiian koa wood is especially prized for its distinctive curly grain.

Grown mostly on the big island of Oahu, the gorgeous red-hued wood makes Lanikai's Curly Koa Series ukuleles look as beautiful as they sound. The rosewood bridge and fretboard add clarity to the notes, and the die-cast tuners keep you in tune from song to song. With gold hardware and a soft satin finish, the Lanikai CKCGC Concert Ukulele will surely turn some heads. You won't believe what kind of beautiful sounds this dynamic and versatile little island instrument is capable of singing.

Comments about Lanikai CKCGC Concert Ukulele:

Uke isn't my main instrument, but I certainly do enjoy playing it. I've got a couple of nice sopranos (including and old Martin), but ever since I've started teaching ukulele, I've thought that a concert-size would be a real nice thing to have, if only to make it easier for a student to see what my fat fingers are doing on the fretboard.

I got my CKCGC from an estate sale (in as-new shape as far as I could tell), for a ridiculously low price. Should be happy to have a playable uke of any sort, but I'll look this gift horse in the mouth:

First off, it's a very good-playing, good-sounding uke. Like most new fretted instruments, it needed some set-up-- in this case, very little: opening up tight slots and rounding off some sharp edges on the nut, and minor levelling and edge-smoothing on the frets.

The overall design is VERY attractive, which paradoxically makes the uke's minor cosmetic flaws stand out glaringly. For instance, the lovely curly-maple center back stripe is in spots rough, and sunk below the level of the back.

I'd much rather see too little finish on an instrument than too much, but this one looks to have just had a first coat of sealer applied and still needs its final couple of sandings. If the wood were plain mahogany, it might look fine like that, but this is koa, with a very nice flame to it! It's a shame not to see the beauty of that figuring.

Mine's looking a lot prettier after some vigorous buffing with 0000 steel wool, and a couple of light coats of tung oil.

Comments about Lanikai CKCGC Concert Ukulele:

First,, let me say it sounds and plays great. However you would hope the finish would be better. I had to file the nut because it was sharp against my hand. The buttons on the is 1/16th of an inch below flush, and the other is the same amount above the bridge. The tuners are great, but silvertone instead of gold. The abalone rosette is beautiful, as well as the binding and fret inlays. There are spots, front and back missing stain, the back more so than the front. It should have been sold as a blem. However its such a sweet player, I kept it anyways. This isn't my first uke, and it won't be my last. Up next, a 6 string tenor.
