Comments about D'Angelico Excel Madison Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Love the feel of this guitar. It has a big sound that really cuts in the mix-- the pickup and pre amp is exceptional as well. I was looking for a well priced rosewood guitar and was hesitant about buying something I never played before. But when the guitar arrived, it came perfectly set up and in tune. It has exceeded my expectations and then some. A great guitar for any player!

Comments about D'Angelico Excel Madison Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

After my first 1/2 hour I was very impressed, it is a well constructed guitar, sounds just as good a my Taylor when plugged in, and comes close when it is not.

Comments about D'Angelico Excel Madison Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If you primarily want a guitar under one thousand that still sounds like a Martin or a Taylor, you probably should get an entry-level one of those, but they will look entry-level, i.e., spartan. If you primarily want a guitar that looks nice and sounds "good enough", then consider one of the d'Angelico Excel guitars, or one of the PRS acoustics. I'm in the latter category. I'd really like to have a Martin D45 or at least D28, but wasn't willing to spend the money at this time. Yet, visual appeal was for me a "must have", so I was torn between a PRS SE Angelus A50E (or Tonare T50E), and one of the d'Angelico's. I settled on the Madison, which is the Jumbo style guitar. It is honestly a beautiful guitar, excellent build quality (my 2017 model was made in China), easy on the fingers. with a nice case, and excellent Fishman electronics. Unplugged, it has a very even sound, and despite the Jumbo format it is not overly loud or boomy. It sounds actually rather bright, maybe because of the brass bridge pins and bone nut, and maybe that is characteristic of d'Angelico sound anyway (I don't have enough experience). I plugged it into my Headrush pedalboard, and after adjusting the volume a bit, it sounded surprisingly good with a standard electric guitar rig, so I think it would do fine plugged into an electric guitar amp after a few adjustments. But I made a special rig for it without amplifier (i.e., just effects) which included an EQ pedal, although I could have adjusted the EQ on the Fishman electronics itself. Taking some of the treble off, I wound up with great amplified sound that would do well in any band that needed an acoustic guitar sound. I think it actually sounds better amplified than unplugged, but that may be because of the reverb... :-) So overall, I'm very happy with it!
