OVERVIEW

A classic model with a shorter scale and single-coil tones.

Since 1964 the Mustang model has been bringing Fender sound and style to the stage and the studio in the hands of trend-setting players ranging from Nirvana to The 1975. Upgraded with performance-oriented features, this new Mustang sports classic style with modern electronics in an ultra-comfortable short-scale form that’s easy to play all night long.

Tonally flexible, the pair of angled single-coil pickups make every note and chord pop with authentic Fender tone. These low-output pickups have a balanced voice with bell-like upper harmonics, punchy mids and thick lows for a sound that easily cuts through a mix. Master volume and tone controls, along with a threeway pickup switch craft your sound.

Topped by a 9.5”-radius maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, the “C”-shaped maple neck is comfortable for all playing styles and ideal for players with smaller hands, or those who use extended chord forms. The six-saddle stringthrough-body hardtail Strat® bridge increases sustain while the bent steel saddles add a touch of “cut” to your tone, and are adjustable for spoton intonation.

The 24” scale adds a bit of warmth and thickness to the guitar’s inherent tone, while granting a slinkier playing feel, making it easier to perform multi-step bends. The guitar’s smaller body is perfect for energetic stage performances and ideal for those with smaller frames while retaining Fender’s famous ergonomic design aesthetic.

A gloss polyester finish protects the body while the neck bears a satin polyurethane finish for fast, easy playability. The aesthetic appointments add a touch of classic Fender style to this modernized design for dazzling style under the spotlights. A cult favorite, the Mustang has evolved from a student-oriented model to the underground champion that laid the foundation for grunge and modern alternative rock.

Comments about Fender Mustang Maple Fingerboard:

Admittedly, I had wanted these exact specs for many, many years: Mustang body with an all-maple neck, hardtail bridge, 3-way toggle, AlNiCo V pickups... can't tell you how many times I had something similar in my Warmoth cart and (fortunately) didn't pull the trigger.

So when these new models were announced at NAAM, I pre-ordered mine (in Olive!) and it has not disappointed. The look and feel is impeccable with excellent build quality. Pickups are bright and punchy, sounding somewhere between a more traditional Mustang and a Strat. It has lots of oomph to drive an amp but still articulate enough for all my pedals and effects. Sounds great through my Fender, Vox, Marshall and a Yamaha amps, and I can't say that about most of my guitars.

I've had it for more than six months, the honeymoon phase has long since passed, but "Olive" still occupies close to 50% of my playing time. And that's saying something because I own 7 other electrics.

Great guitar, playability, tone and value--I highly recommend it to anyone who's remotely interested. And if you're worried about the scale length, don't be. Because it's fitted with a string-through hardtail and a set of 10s, it has a solid rock feel. You can't really tell the difference other than it's more comfortable to wield than a Strat or Tele.

...and there are zero mods on the horizon. I'm saving up for the P90 version instead.

Comments about Fender Mustang Maple Fingerboard:

Good Fender quality!! Plays nice right out of the box but I would eventually recommend a good set up.. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.. It's a simple fun guitar and shouldn't be confused with high end Fender's. The sound quality is good but the pickups are a little weak.. Toggle placement and short scale took a little getting use to. I would highly recommend this guitar for first time players or somebody who just wants to to have fun! This guitar is worth the price I paid for it..

Comments about Fender Mustang Maple Fingerboard:

Had this about a month now . For its price point it is a solid playing and sounding guitar .
Needed a decent setup including filing the nut grooves , intonation and neck and bridge adjustment .
The fret ends feel a little rough but not to bad . It's nice and light and quite comftorable playing .
The action is super fast even with a set of 11-49 gauge strings on . Has the classic Fender vintage tone .
          Very pleased overall !

Comments about Fender Mustang Maple Fingerboard:

I was slightly hesitant to buy this guitar as I am not one for single coil pickups. I am blown away by the mustang pickups that come in this. They have a ton of punch and a massive amount of clarity. I usually use fairly high output pickups and originally had plans to mod this mustang, but that is off the table now. The tone that this guitar carries is unique and extremely versatile. I have used it to play country, punk, ska, and metal. It is truly the top guitar in my collection. I purchased the Olive Green and the pictures of the guitar are nothing close to how good it looks in person. The short scale takes a little getting used to especially if you are used to more traditional fender scale lengths. Many would say that having such a short scale of 24" would make down-tuning the guitar tricky, but surprisingly the stock fender 10's actually handled going a full step down rather well. I would recommend some heavy core 10's if you like to play in anything much lower than half step down.
