Dont let the fact that this guitar is an MIM scare you away. This guitar plays and feels great compared to an MIA and you get it for half the price. The pick ups on this guitar are great the single coils give it that vintage strat souns while the humbucker gives it that extra twang that you need to be heard. The neck on my is maple which goes very nicely with any of the finishes that are offered and includes a gig-bag.It stays in tune perfectly but i suggest getting some locking tuners if youre gonna be using whammy bar frequently because it can knock it out of tune pretty quickly.Other than that this guitar great for intermidiate and proffessional players alike and it is extremely versatile.
I gave it an 8 because overtime youll want to change the pick ups

I have always been an American Strat guy. Got one of these as part of a trade deal. '06 model, like new, still had the tags on it, never played. Chrome Red with maple fretboard. Looks great, fit and finish of neck and body are excellent, as good as my American strats. Likewise, it has the same pots, switch, and jack of the more expensive models. All good stuff, very satisfactory. But that's pretty much where the similarities end. The fret and nutwork are not nearly as nice. It is impossible to get this guitar set up as well as my US models, because the fretwork is second rate. With the action and truss rod set the same as my other guitars, this one frets out on big bends at random spots on the neck. The frets are not leveled properly. The nut was ok, but not what I am used to, it needed to be re-cut to perform properly. The machine heads LOOK the same as the US models, but I don't think they are. They do not perform as well. I do like that it has a big honking trem block, they didn't used to have these on MIM strats. Mine has the Diamondback humbucker- EXCELLENT pickup. A little hot for my tatses, but very useable, and an incredibly toneful pickup. Nice dynamics, and really smooth. The single coils are some of the worst I've ever heard. Just lifeless clang. Not stratty at all, just dull and thunky. better when adjusted lower, but still not anywhere near what I consoder a strat sound. Overall, it's a decent bang for the buck, and with some work (frets and nut) can be a fine player, as good as anything out there. But don't let people fool you, it is not on the same level as the American product. Then again, for half the price, I didn't really epxect it to be.

Great Guitar

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Ive owned this guitar for about 6 years (mine is an 02 model). There has been some updates including a higher mass bridge block, satin back necks and such but the over all remains the same. The playability is awesome. I use 50-10 gauge strings in 1/2 step down tuning and it still plays awesome. the pickups sound great. for the most part i prefer the sound of humbuckers over single coils, however these sound naturally fat, like David Gilmore fat and the noise is relatively low even in high gain sounds ( i use a hot rodded Marshall 77 master volume and a mesa boogie dual rectifier both with tube screamers in front all with drive max and gain on amps at full) the neck and mid pickups together produce no noise what soever (even quieter then the 'bucker) The humbucker has a similar tone to the Dizmarzio Evolution Pickup without as much harmonic saturation. Nice and full but still retaining the strat "snap".The whole thing is well built and will stand up to abuse. the switch and pots handel nicely and produce little to no noise and are very easy to work. The trem system handles well, but unless u have quality strings and have your trem system set up right u will probably find your self outta tune after a passage with heavy trem use.I recommend maple neck and fingerboard however either will do fine and not affect the sound too much. This is a great guitar and holds up to guitars costing twice the price.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

My wife bought me this strat and I really wasnt sure how I would like it so I wanted to play it for a few mounths before I wrote a review. I play classic rock country southern rock and have a few guitars over the years and I really fell in love with this one.I like the way the pickups sound and it plays well but it could use some good tunners . I think it plays as good as the american and now it has become my go to guitar .

Best for the price

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Ill start by saying that this guitar does look 'cheap' compared to other great strats because of the price and that it's made in mexico. That's why many musicians don't look at these... BUT... To be honest, I'm a professional musician and I've played many American stratocasters while this one feels and plays just like them... Really the only difference is the tonal options and combination of the Mexican pickups. I love this guitar's tone and it matches hundreds of artists from Stevie Ray Vaughn to Eric Johnson's tone which is definitely my favorite overdrive and echo sound. I own one with a maple neck and it feels amazing going down the board to play solos. One thing I do want to mention is HSS. This means that you get one Humbucker pickup which is a pickup that makes less noise/hum and gives you that awesome rock tone while still keeping a "strat" tone if you know what I mean...The guitar does buzz a little, but remember- restring it when you get it and every few weeks- and to get it set up at a music store just for them to fix the truss rod (hopefully,) and to get you ready to play. By the way, when you get the guitar, make sure the 4-screw silver thing on the back that's supposed to hold the neck and the body together is tightened all the way so that the neck is secure and flat so you'll get the best sustain. So that's basically it. Thanks for reading my review. I really do recommend this guitar to anyone- beginner or professional- knowing that if you have the money to spend, it might be better to get an american, vintage, or Fender custom shop model for better sound and other features... Check out my youtube channel - 'guitarmangs'- for some future examples. thanks for reading :)

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Ive been playing lead guitar and bass for the past 22 years. I usually play bass on stage in my band however when I write music I usually do it on my American made Deluxe Strat but, it was stolen 4 months ago. I wanted to buy the same guitar but could only afford this made in mexico ax. To be honest, the only difference I can tell between the U.S.A. model and this mexican one is the quality of the pickups. It plays, sounds, feels and looks just like my old USA one. Last week I installed a Seymour Duncan JB4 humbucker in the bridge and now it sounds even BETTER than my old USA strat. Ive read some other peoples reviews that had bad a bunch of bad things to say about this guitar but all I can say is that they must have had a lemon because my Mexican strat is every bit as good as my old USA Strat with the exception of the pickups. Hope this review helps you.

just a amazing guitar, no one will be able to beat this sound machine
so amazing, with the five different pickup settings. it never goes outa tune for me no matter how hard im slamming the trem.
the Quailty is amazing! i got the sunburst and when i saw the picture i thought crap that looks plain! but i was wrong turns out its a really bad pic haha the wood grains are so visible its amazing. Im always getting complimented on the neck to! i think its birds eye maple but im not sure. the humbucker is a little trebly but if you put a nice chrome pickup cover on it, its a nice fat treble warm sound man you cant go wrong either way. (without/with the cover on the humbucker, if you turn the tone to 0 you get a great rocking sound!)
haha worth more then what this site and what fenders asking! i got a mexican strat, and i hear great things bout japan too so no matter what you will get a great! guitar!

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for close to eight years now, and I love it just the same as when I first bought it. After all that time, it's lived pretty hard but held up fantastically. It still plays great and it hasn't lost its looks either. My only complaint I have with it is the pesky floating bridge that can make it difficult to keep in tune, and the stock humbucker could be a bit fatter... other than that, it is the best fender product you can get for the price and it won't ever let you down.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I learned to play on this guitar. I currently own a Mexican made fat strat and for most purposes, you won't need to change a thing (exept of course the strings). Even with the stock pickups this thing gets an unbelievable range of tones. I've been thinking about putting in some new pickups, but for now I've just adjusted the height of mine and that's good as is. I'm kinda rough with my stuff, but this guitar is a beast. I've banged it around countless times and it's still good as new! So stop stalling and add a fat strat to your arsenal, NOW!P.S. If you're strapped for cash, don't let "Made in Mexico" scare you, as long as you don't get a squire the quality you'll be getting is top-notch.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I absolutely love this guitar. The neck is super smooth and the guitar has a nice weight to it. The only thing for me is that I found the pickups to be a little weak for my tastes. Of course, I like playing alternative/metal so that's to be expected. I threw in some Seymour Duncan's in it and it really jams now. If your music style is the same as mine, throw in some single coil sized humbuckers. I added push pull knobs for a coil tap option and this guitar is totally versatile.

Ask me a question

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I usually only play American Strats. However I bought a Mexican HSS recently and am pleased overall. The sound is very good and the bridge humbucker adds a little extra Oomph for solos. The first thing I did was to swap out the wimpy springs with American springs. This tightens the action up giving a bit of "snap." Intonation is good out of the box. My only complaint is that when bending a note on the 18th fret, the note "frets out" and I will need to have the frets leveled. Also the nut tends to trap the strings and when you use the vibrato, you end up with an out of tune guitar. Both of these are very easily remedied and for under $500 you get a guitar that plays as well as an American. I've gigged with it and made a seamless transition from my American Strat. I do recommend this as your second Strat if you already own a U.S model!

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

It's a very high quality guitar, especially for its price. Great weight and feel. I have a little trouble keeping it in tune with the tremelo but it's not frequent enough to be much of a problem. The pickups are good. Easily worked on. Hardware is good. I recommend this guitar.

Solid Guitar

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for about 6 years and have had this guitar for about 3 or 4 years, and haven't really felt the need to replace it. It has held up incredibly, just had to tighten a few screws and whatever holds down the tuning pegs and input jack. It feels sweet, sounds great, and has awesomely high action. The pickups have a great range, too. I've played my brother's epi les paul goth studio (costs about the same), and the strat is way better. The epi feels like plastic and produces a lot a buzz compared to the strat. Definitely give this guitar a shot, it's a solid investment.

Fat Strat

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year ago. I got the chrome red (an older finish)with the maple neck. The guitar looks great and it plays pretty good after a good setup. With out a setup there is a lot of fret rattle and action can be a little bit too high. Everything was made perfect on mine, the frets are nice, the neck is straight. My only concern is the pickups, they are great on clean and distortion, but they are a little bit dull. The humbucker is somewhat shrill on the highs and doesn't have enough lows, but i'm working on trading it out for the seymour duncan tb-6 duncan distortion. but I love the guitar, i plan to keep it for a long long time!

Really Awesome Second Guitar

By Alex-P4-2x

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I'm seventeen and ever since I was nine, I've been playing this Ibanez Gio. When I got my first job and had some cash, I knew it was time to upgrade. I originally planned to get another Ibanez, but then I saw the Fender Strat HSS. This guitar is just perfect. I love the humbucker, it's really great for when you want to get into some heavier sounding songs. The other pickups provide a very bluesy sound that is fantastic as well. I feel it's the perfect second guitar that I could have bought considering my budget and needs. I recommend this guitar over any Ibanez or whatever!

What would you expect

By Derrick C 2112

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I recently bought this guitar from this exact paige as soon as I laid eyes on it (Midnight wine, Rosewood fretboard) beutiful finish, Exellent craftsmanship, No extended frets, Nut required no work at all, Even the finish on the back of the neck didn't need to be sanded for a less gripy slid. Everything was top notchOk, the main concern I had when buying this was the pickups, And there really is no way for sure to tell whether they suite your particular tastes or not, So i'll do my best to discribe them for you. Clean this guitar is unmatched, the main reason I bought the HSS strat oposed to the single coils was to avoid the clanky trebly headache I get out from the brigde pickup of most single coils. Can't get any better in my opinion. Its has a nice soft yet acoustical sound to it which to me is the goal for guitars to achive, Because once to get that tone clean, It means you can literaly get any tone you want because your starting from the ground up.So my next concern was how it would respond to a distortion pedal. Would I puke or cry with quik harmonic bend?.... Cry, I was never so impressed by any guitar ive ever touched. Its was by far the most ballsy sqeal from any strat in my arsenal. It was rather distinct also. It wasnt so much like an Ygnwie tone it was heavier, It had a sort of darker tone to it. I thought at that moment well forget that Ibanez ive been drooling over lol. And This guitar will defanatly be in my hand when a Gut quenching solo is required of me. And the rythm. For metal its great it has a nice crunchy tone and responds great with crisp clear harmonics. Bottom line is if you buy this guitar, which i hope you do, You won't even think about buying a new one no matter what you play, Metal, blues, country, or jazz. This is the guitar for you.

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I just recently got this guitar and the only thing I can say about it is that is amazing. As soon as I picked it up in the store I knew it was for me. The neck has great action and the wood adds a great light tone to the sound. The thing that amazes me most about it is how well it stays in tune. I barely ever have to.. I would highly recommend this guitar to any beginner/intermediate guitar player!

Comments about Fender Standard Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I almost cried when my wife bought this guitar because I really wanted an "American" strat! After plugging this in and playing for 10 minutes I fell in love with it! (Then I was crying with joy!) The neck is fast, it looks absolutely great and I love the fender single coil sound I get out of it. My other guitars are Les Paul, and Ibanez so I have enough humbuckers but I like that sound so much I did not want to give it up with a Fender. (hence the HSS) I gave it a 4.5 on Features because the humbucking pickup is bright and not as low and growly as I like. (I will probably replace it someday but some friends gave me lots of compliments on the leads that come out of that) Buy this guitar!
