This is a guitar that sounds very good and is an iconic model from an iconic brand. Really, it comes down to that, if you are happy to pay the premium for the iconic axe, go for it.
This is a basic guitar. Nothing fancy. Very light weight. I like the alpine white model but as far a finishes, build quality, and feel it's ok but nothing exceptional. Where this guitar stands out is the tone. It is a sweet sounding guitar and I think it really excels at hard rock, classic rock and blues. But, I think it could handle anything. The overall quality is good.
There are better guitars at this price point. Gibson's prices keep rising faster and higher and this model no exception. You are paying a premium for the name but the quality I expect at this price is not there.
Again, it's a good guitar it's just overpriced. So, if you want this iconic guitar, keep an eye out for Stupid deal of the day, end of year close outs, re stocks, and used. I've had great luck with all of the above from MF and come the holiday season this guitar will likely pop up at a good price. Last year I scored 25% off on a brand new Gibson Les Paul Standard as one of MFs end of year "door busters" . I saw SG standards at great prices so keep cool and keep your eyes open for deals. Just know, when these deals pop up the guitars move fast so be ready to buy.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
This is by far the best SG yet. Perfect finish, perfect neck and fretboard, perfect tone (and many choices), electronic tuning is spot on and fast, action is superb. I have owned several SGs and the 2014 is the best - really! It successfully competes with my Gibson Les Paul Custom that cost over twice as much. The split coils provides for Tele and Strat tones when desired. This guitar is a 10 of 10. And the price is right.

This is as good as any SG that I have ever owned, I am still getting used to the auto tune but it is great and the price very reasonable. I love the Walnut color as well.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
The tuner works only half the time properly, the proper tune is based on the first instant you strike the string but this thing evaluates the note 3 seconds later. It ends up sharp or flat a little. There may be an answer. Jury is still out.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
These SG's have rose a lot in price lately since the pickguard has changed. Personaly I like the big pickguard better. The batwing guard doesn't belong on the standard! Just a way for gibson to raise the price and they DID! Way over priced now but it is a gibson!

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
Guitar is everything you would expect from a Gibson. Tuner works like it should but menu select is hard to see direction buttons unless you take guitar and place back of head directly in front of you. Difficult to see, should be marked better.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
I have read all the reviews. for all you out there that think the etune does not work well here's the skinny. out of the box I adjusted the action to my liking. the stretched the strings out real well. the secret is then to get Big bends nut sauce and apply to each string nut grove, then watch how it works. flawlessly. sounds great and plays great. do this and see what happens. Got mine for 1400 new.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
The 1st few days I had this guitar it would not stay in tune and sounded very muddy. I was ready to send it back. 1st I took it to my local guitar tech who set it up and fine tuned it. I also put a Gibson Angus Young pickup in the bridge position even though the 57 classics are good as well. The first day back from the shop it still sounded muddy and wouldn't stay in tune, whether using the built in min e tune system or a clip on tuner. The next day I gave it one more shot and when I played it not only was it now staying in tune, but sounded much better. My only explanation is that this guitar is a very highly sensitive high end instrument and it needed a few days to "air out" and acclimate out of the box and some fine tuning/set up work by my local guitar tech

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
This guitar is amazing. As much as everybody is hating on the min E tune, i love it. originally i was against it but after trying it, I realized how useful it is. It sounds amazing and has a variety of pickup options with the coil split. the undercut fret over binding surprisingly makes a noticeable difference in playing. And the vintage style case is really cool. It is slightly neck heavy, but that is to be expected with an SG. altogether this is an awesome guitar and definitely the best one i own.

Comments about Gibson 2014 SG Standard Electric Guitar:
love the guitar.other than the goofy truss guard cover that says e tune and that stupid tuner. Was almost a deal breaker.. wish Gibson would lower the price and keep the toy. Installed new grover locking tuners and a new truss rod cover and now she ready to ROCK !!!!! . The only reason for the 4 stars rating is the tuning system.. Overall a SG standard is a amazing guitar..
