All you want in a '58 Reissue with more resonance and less weight.

The Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Lightly Figured Chambered Les Paul is based on the famed Heritage Reissue Les Paul with two differences. It has a moderately flamed maple top and a chambered one-piece mahogany body that promotes more resonance while reducing the weight of the guitar. This '58 Reissue features a carved plain maple top, and single-ply cream binding on the top. The rounded-profile neck is one-piece mahogany with the original-style truss rod. The rosewood fingerboard is finished with 22 frets, vintage trapezoid inlays, and single-ply cream binding. Seriously scorching output is delivered through dual BurstBucker pickups, tone and volume controls, and a 3-way switch. Electronics include the original CTS pots and bumblebee capacitors for a signal path that's truly vintage.

To protect your investment in quality, this guitar comes complete with a Gibson Custom Shop case and a Certificate of Authenticity.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Lightly Figured Chambered Les Paul Electric Guitar:

these guitars need to be seen and played in person to be believed. i've had mine going on five years now, and i havent regretted it a single day.
features rate a 7, because, well, it's a les paul. it is what it is. two pickups, four knobs and gobs of tone. it does feature one of the prettiest tops i've ever seen -- not a gaudy, over-the-top flame like you see on many R9s. this one looks like something right out of "the beauty of the burst."
outstanding quality. no other way to describe it. it just feels like something made "like they used to." and the tone is to die for. the chambering allows it to ring and sustain like no other les paul i've ever had. add to that the fact that it weighs just under 8 lbs, and you've got something that sounds and feels like a 50-year-old guitar without mortgaging the house.
value is a 5 because these things are amazignly expensive. and as reissues, they'll probably never increase in value too much. but i guess you get what you pay for.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Lightly Figured Chambered Les Paul Electric Guitar:

Ex professional player here... have played over 40+ years. I've owned lots of guitars, and more than 10 les pauls. This one is the hands down best.

The one shown here on musiciansfriend is CR80092, mine is the same but 0011, both being built in 2010. There are not very many of these chambered resissue 58 les pauls, they're a bit of a rare-bird.

One of the things most notice on the original bursts is the wood was somehow lighter - perhaps having aged over time? In any case, the best les pauls are about 8 lbs. Mine weighs 7lbs 14 oz, and sounds amazingly closer to a vintage burst than the solid les paul. Perhaps the cavity design is the answer to achieving the vintage tone without waiting for 50 years?

The 2010 guitars featured real HONDURAN mahogany, solid east indian rosewood fretboards, solid mahogany necks (with a really thick non-shouldered deep 50's profile), and lightly flamed eastern maple cap. Also changes in the dye prevented the bleeding into the binding seen in other years. The frets are plekked - so you will achieve an action that is unbelievable, without buzzing. Mine is the fastest playing of all my guitars, so much so that I can't use .0009 strings (my usual) and had to go heavier.

My recommendation is buy the guitar, you won't be sorry, it's the one guitar you'll never part with until death.
