Don't Forget

Superb craftsmanship, luxurious appointments, towering tone.

All of Gibson's century-long experience crafting high-quality archtop instruments can be felt when you lay your hands on this delicious, full-bodied jazz machine. The precision-carved solid spruce top emits a sonorous, silky, deep, rich tone. Full binding with a sharp multi-ply binding on the top combines with a multilayer pickguard, goldtop-style knobs, pearl parallelogram inlays on the ebony fretboard, a substantial gold-plated brass tailpiece, and an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with pearl inlays in the ebony base to make this one astoundingly gorgeous electric guitar with vintage appeal. But the real beauty rings through when you plug it in. 2 - '57 Classic Humbuckers with individual volume and tone controls generate a phenomenally smooth sound with a thick midrange, more tonal options than you might expect, and great response to the top's vibrant resonance. The Gibson L-4 CES has a carved solid mahogany rims and back, one-piece mahogany neck.

Comments about Gibson Custom 2015 L-4 CES Mahogany Electric Guitar:

Very different from Es175 or old L4ces with back sides maple plywood. This one has SOLID mahogany back sides and SOLID SPRUCE TOP . ACOUSTIC TONE not muddy at all. Similar to L5 Wes Montgomery but short scale. Very comfortable. Mahogany is so woddy ... really special , so acoustic. If you change the ABR bridge with an ebony bridge you'dd discovery an extraordinary ACOUSTIC TONE. No feed back problems at reasonable volume. So smooth .. very good guitar , a very good job and improuvement of the old L4 maple. Very different from old L4 maple/laminate CES. Good Music

Ask me a question

Comments about Gibson Custom 2015 L-4 CES Mahogany Electric Guitar:

I tried the L-4 at home.
I blew it through a Blacheart Little Giant 5w tube head and
a Carvin 1-12 cab loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker ( a beautiful Jazz setup ! ).
To me the tone was a disappointment.
The tone was a bit harsh or thin.
I could get the best tone picking on the neck side of the neck pickup.
Actually , it was a good tone there, but the pickup is right against
the neck so my pick was hitting the pickup or the fretboard. Not comfortable.
On my ES 175 there is a nice gap between the fretboard and the pickup,
that's where I play the 175, I can dig in picking because there is all the airspace under the strings.

For me, the solid carved wood build is appealling, but the guitar
is very prone to feedback, much more than my L-5.
The tone is decent, but the ES 175 is as good or better,
and the 175 is much more affordable.
For the ultimate Jazz guitar, if you can possibly afford one , get the
Wes Montgomery L5, it is out of this world good.

The L4 is a beauty to behold !
The solid Spruce and Mahogany body
Ebony and pearl fretboard
'59 classic pickups
good tunong machines
gold plated parts
beautiful workmanship and finnish
beautiful woods and build
It is expensive for a working guitar
An ES 175 would be a better choice value wise IMHO

Comments about Gibson Custom 2015 L-4 CES Mahogany Electric Guitar:

Played one the other day. Sounded beautiful. Not quite like l5 but just as good just different. Way nicer than a 175. If you can afford it and play jazz do it. The natural finish is so pretty its hard not to stare.
