Comments about Gibson Les Paul Faded 2018 Electric Guitar:

I bought the 2017 version from MF in December when it was on sale, but the 2018 appears essentially identical. This is a no frills Les Paul that is missing nothing you need for tone or play-ability. The pickups sound clearly superior when played directly against a similar priced Epiphone Les Paul. Mine is 7.5 lbs. and the modern weight reduction seems like the only sensible option, but is not currently in production in the more expensive Gibson Les Paul's. The 2017 brown faded finish is much nicer looking in-person than as pictured on the web, but I think 2018 Bourbon is slightly lighter in color and looks better to me as pictured on MF's website. Mine does have several minor flaws if you look very carefully (they look like short fibers caught in the finish). It sounds and plays great. I like the maple neck because I think it is less likely to break at the headstock compared to weaker mahogany. The factory G-string was slipping around the tuning post and a new set of strings fixed it. There are some criticisms on the web of the Gibson Deluxe tuning machines (made by Ping for Grover for Gibson), but I think they work very well. Gibson's new gig bag is very protective and attractive.

I play primarily acoustic guitar in a duo these days and have not had an electric guitar in almost a decade. I saw a duo with one electric and one acoustic guitar and thought I could do that (my roots are in electric guitar). But, I wanted an electric guitar where I could install a Schaller roller bridge to set the string spacing the same as my acoustics, 2 3/16". Besides a Nashville Tune-a-matic, that means no neck binding (or fretting over the binding) so that I could widen the string spacing from the stock 2" and not put the strings out too close to the edge of the frets. This is the one Les Paul that has both. Check out my picture.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Faded 2018 Electric Guitar:

Really, almost a grand for this guitar? do yourself a favor and find a nice one with a FULL FINISH and not a half finished guitar, plenty of them used all over net, Gibson is out of their minds!
