Comments about Gibson SG Standard HP 2018 Electric Guitar:

Let's start by saying that I've own just about every SG from Specials, Standards, Faded, etc. I sold them all because there was always something I didn't like. What I didn't like about those is that they didn't stay in tune, didn't have a variety of pick up sounds, didn't have 24 frets and the list goes on an on. I bought the Mojave Fade and I can tell you it is a work of art. Every sound combination to single, double, hum bucking to almost everything. Another thing I like is it is light weighing at about 7 lbs. Love the 24 frets and the spacing between the frets are shorter which is unique for an SG. Some people may not like this but I think it is great. The G Force Tuners on mine worked perfectly, just turn it on and strum the string one by one and you're in tune. You can work the tunings to but I haven't really done that though. Knobs are heavy duty unlike most SGs where I feel I could break it. Case is superior and on wheels. Ok. Here's the only bad. The finish is susceptible to fine surface scratches so if you buy this thing, you play it. It is the kind of guitar you would
collect anyway. Hybrid type guitars generally depreciate unless they were numbered and these aren't. I do believe these colors are only for 2018 though and never again. Hope this helps.

Comments about Gibson SG Standard HP 2018 Electric Guitar:

Got mine a few weeks ago. Bought it here on sale.

The color is amazing...I can't keep my eyes off it. The color is as red as shown in the photo. Don't let the stated color of "Blood Orange Fade" scare you. I see no orange, only red.

The output jack is where it needs to stay...on the side. Some SGs in the past had it on the side...it should stay there for all SG models.

It has 24 frets...highly unusual for a Gibson. On this issue, Gibson should have put inlays on the 24th fret to make it clear that this is a 24-fret neck...just as their many competitors do. It just looks cool to see that added inlay at the 24th fret.

Heel access is awesome. This is another area that Gibson should incorporate across all SGs, and Les Pauls for that matter. It's nice that it is an option on HP models, but all other models could benefit from this feature as well.

G Force continues to improve and this one is even faster and quieter than the G Force that came with my 2015 Les Pauls.

The hard-shell Case: This alone was worth the wait. It is solid, and it has two handles and wheels. One handle on the side for carrying and the other handle on the end for pulling using the wheels. The three latches actually lock onto themselves. Hard explain, but just push down on the lever and the top of the latch automatically engages with the lid.

On the downside, the neck dive is the worst I have ever experienced. The fast heel may make this more of an issue than more traditional SGs have. Gibson should figure out a way to counter balance this issue. It's because of the neck dive that only give it four stars.
