Travel guitar with built-in speaker.

Ibanez has taken the portability of the Mikro Electric Guitar to the next level by adding a built-in neck position speaker to the GRGM51HP Mikro Sonic. With 2 watts of output (2.5-watt with ACMIKRO adapter), standard 1/4" and headphone output, and a 5-way rotary switch that lets you choose a tuning tone, as well as clean, overdrive, or 2 different distorted sounds, the Mikro guitar is everything you need for practice, songwriting, and travel! With its shorter scale length the Mikro is a perfect guitar for young rockers, too.

The Ibanez Mikro Electric Guitar can shred with the big boys. Though smaller than standard-scale guitars, it's no toy. The Mikro is made to the same high standards as all Ibanez guitars and features the very same Powersound pickup that goes into all GIO series electric guitars.

  • GRG Mikro 22.2" neck

The overdrive leaves a little to be desired, but with 2 different distortion settings and tone control, you'll make do easily. The overdrive makes good for everything, including hard rock.I really like the neck on this guitar, thin, athletic and fast.I was really shocked when I learned how easily I got used to the neck scale. It may be a little weak on tone, but a hell of a lot better than one would think. This thing shreds for the price.

Elegant and capable

The guitar arrived with a non-working volume control. Return was simple and free of charge. The second guitar was fine. Fret ends needed filing and polishing. A couple of the shark's tooth inlays on the fingerboard were high, jutting above the fingerboard wood, so I had to file those too, and sand them and polish them. The tiny speaker sounds a bit funny when using distortion or overdrive settings, but that's to be expected. I like the weight and solidity of the feel of the guitar. Frets are about "Jumbo" in size, I'd say, and feel really good. Sound is great when plugged in to a practice amp or other amp. The tone setting (really sound model, or amp setting model) is preserved when routed to an external amp. This is great if you have a simple practice amp with no distortion or other "un-clean" settings. A thoroughly enjoyable product. A bit heavy for a "travel guitar", but the short scale encourages you to take it everywhere, nonetheless. Very efficient on battery use: the 9-volt battery lasts a long time. I don't miss the neck humbucker, where the built-in speaker is; the bridge pup sounds great. My guitar was a clearance item, so may be "B"-quality merchandise, I don't know. Certainly, my needing to refine the fret ends, and the fingerboard inlay, show that. But if you have that technology, this is a great guitar. For strings, BTW, I like the flat-wound 10's of Thomastik-Infeld, and recommend changing the stock strings to your favorites.

Had the nomad delux, sounds great but it's wierd shape makes it hard to play and it eats batteries. For much less this guitar plays and sounds great and batteries last a long time. This is the best travel guitar at any price.

Good kids guitar

By Anonymous

My 6-year-old brother wanted a guitar because he sees me playin, so my parents got himthis for xmas. Very nice-looking, especially inlays. plays great on clean, but after a few weeks, there was a problem switchin between the overdrive channels they just wouldn't switch. there are five channels. the first is wierd: clean with a really loud screeching sound, second is clean, next 2 are overdrive, and last is distortion. I would reccomend getting the regular mikro with an amp, speaker isn't that great. Overall its good for a small kid,but if you want a travel guitar, get an ESP Kirk Hammet Jr.

It was like playing a Ukalale.

Ok, its a bit of an overstatement, but my point is that it is much smaller than I expected. I understood it was a mini and I was fine with that, but it was simply too small for me. It had fair tone and the features were pretty nice. While I think this guitar is too small for me, I do think it does have benefits for younger people and that is why I am giving it a 4.0 rating.

Feedback problem

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

After a week or so the guitar got a feedback problem with the distortion settings at high volume. It was unusable. I ordered another, hopefully it won't have that problem. If yours has this problem, I would say return it. Besides that it is a good buy.

Very nice, but...

I just bought this guitar from a shop today, to travel, without taking all my equip w/ me! Anyways, it's very nice, but you might have to get some EB power slinkys for it. Besides that, it's grate for traval and w/ the Headphones included good for that late night practice. overall Great Investment, Enjoy!!!
