Active EMG pickups and Multi-scale for amazing playability.

As the legion of converts to the made-for-metal Iron Label Series continues to grow, Ibanez continues to work at providing new instruments for those guitarists who choose to take the road less traveled. In keeping with this objective, Ibanez has, once again, broken new ground with the introduction of the RGIF8, the first-ever production Multi-scale 8-string electric.

While the trapezoidal 27.2/25.5 scale, Multi-scale pattern of the RGIF8 may initially seem strange or intimidating to the novice, initiates quickly take to how this design optimizes individual string tension to create a more open or alive tone that not only expands harmonic complexity, but also offers a more comfortable playing experience.

The RGIF8 features an ash body finished in a transparent stain that allows the natural markings of the woods grain to emerge, creating a dark, dramatic effect. Matched with a Nitro Wizard 5-piece Maple/Bubinga neck, these diverse woods work together to create a brighter tone that brings both clarity and definition to even the deepest notes of the lower spectrum.

Working from the philosophy that playing comfort translates into speed, the RGIF8 features a spacious bound Rosewood fretboard that both enhances playing agility and optimizes articulation. Designed for both stability and sustain, the innovative Ibanez Mono-Rail bridge minimizes cross-talk between strings and facilitates flawless intonation. Highly responsive EMG 909X active pickups offer a beefed-up low-end and a super-tight overall distortion sound thats both articulate and responsive.

Simply put: the RGIF8 represents the obvious, ultimate choice for guitarists ready to plumb new depths in metal and beyond.

Comments about Ibanez Iron Label RG Series RGIF8 Multi-scale 8-String Electric Guitar:

Guitarist in an Army band, all styles. I was worried the clean tone would suffer, but the chords I played sounded brilliant, very full and rich. Never played a fanned fret/multiscale instrument, and while the first day I would move my hand directly downward only to be off a fret, within two days I didn't even think about it and didn't have that trouble. This was as good a quality as my seafoam green Ibanez Jem, and at a lower price possibly because of not being a signature-model and of the focus less on the cosmetics. That said, I brought this out in rehearsal and my team leader said 'that is a sexy guitar'. I needed something that would play any and all styles, and this is much more versatile than I thought. We change keys a lot and chart our tunes with the number system, so the extra range helps to play in all keys without having to retune. Most songs we do are using a clean tone, and I get a nice full and crisp sound running direct to a Fender Twin Reverb. Sustain is better than all my other guitars. A lot of it is from the improved intonation, chords just sound better because of the instrument design, which is no small feat. The tone roll-off doesn't alter it that much, and even with the tone at 0 and using the neck pickup, not quite as dark a sound as I would like, but that can be handled down further down the chain. I got mine "like new", and it came with very high action. I used the included tool on the truss rod and gradually brought it down and now it feels super fast and comfortable. The neck is perfect. Only downside is I'll have to spend 175 to get a hard-shell case on my own.
