This is a solid buy for rock players on a budget. I am currently learning songs by August Burns Red, and this guitar has enough distortion, and good enough tone, to handle the intensity. For a clean channel, the neck pickup is pretty clear.Pros:-Jumbo frets make vibratos easier, and aid awareness and orientation.-24 frets for a full double octave.-3 way pickup selector (though this is pretty standard).-Adjustable action.-Slim neck.-Available in three colors (my white one is pretty rockin).-Good distortion (not superb). It CLEARLY rocks my First Act I was using.-Neck pickup sounds great when playing very high on the neck. Awesome deep bluesy tone.-It's easy to reach high frets.-Shiny finish!Cons:-The tremolo bridge is absolutely useless without a locking nut. As soon as you touch the whammy bar the guitar is out of tune. I tried to make it like a fixed bridge by installing the third tremolo spring that was included, but it would be best if it was actually a fixed bridge. Do not buy this guitar for the whammy bar! I recommend not even using it.-Though the neck pickup is good for clean channels, strumming too hard with still get slight distortion.-Not superb (only good) distortion. It will get you pretty far, but if you want a good Bullet for My Valentine distortion or Parkway Drive distortion without relying on footpedals, I recommend better pickups. The RG120 comes equipped with an Infinity 3 on the neck and an Infinity 4 on the Bridge. They are perfect for punk and some metal. I am using a Marshall MG series amp, so that is partially to blame as well.-I haven't found a good use for the center pickup (both pickups), it sounds muddy and unclear.-The black intonation screws on top will most likely corrode and turn grey from your palm, (mine have). Corrosion has actually lead to the stripping of some of the hexagonal screw heads needed for adjusting intonation, therefore mine need to be replaced.-Agathis wood. Rumor has it that this wood is cheap and gives bad tone, but I am debating if this is a Con or not because the tone actually seems fine to me.Other comments:Sustain is pretty good. Palm mutes sound nice. By my picky standards, if you need a decent guitar that will save money, this is the minimum. It is on the line between starter guitars and professional guitars. It is good enough to satisfy without putting a hole in your wallet. It is great for practicing and jamming with friends, and I would even trust it for a gig if needed. If you are leaving the intermediate field and becoming advanced, capable of playing songs by Protest the Hero, then I would look into a more expensive guitar with higher quality wood and better pickups. And I can't stress enough, don't buy this guitar for the tremolo action! It is absolutely useless. If money is a problem, then buy this guitar.

I had this guitar for 2 years, it was my second guitar, an upgrade from a Squier. I loved it even though it gave me alot of problems. I couldn't use Ernie Ball Super Slinky's with the floating bridge, the guitar wouldn't hold tune for more than 3 mins. The strings I found most succesful were fender bullets. Also stock action is pretty high for my tastes. I sold the guitar two months ago, and now that its gone, I regret selling it. I would much rather have this guitar than my Schecter S1 Elite. Great for the money, however I would go with a little bit better RG if you can.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

This shredding beast was my fsecond guitar. This guitar can be for any level wheather your a beginner, amateur or your a professional. It stays in tune and the bridge is very comfortable for palm mutes and everyting. One this about this guitar is that it has some weight to it and kinda heavy but If you have been playing it for 3 years its very comfortable. The fret board is very slick and fast but for tapping I would give it a 4/5, its not the best. Overall Its a great buy and I would totally recommend it!

Nice for the price

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I picked this one up because I needed something with a thinner neck and wider scale than my Epi Junior has, as I'm taking lessons again after 20 years (at age 40) and one of my main aims is building great speed. When I bought it, the action was pretty terrible and the intonation was flat, but after a good setup and a set of hybrid Slinkys installed on it, it's nearly perfect for me. I had the crappy FAT-10 trem blocked with a piece of mahogany, because it's quite literally a piece of crap, and I don't use a trem anyway. The stock pickups are decent, but I wanted something that screamed, so I installed an EMG 81 in the bridge and now it's got great distortion, tone, and harmonics. I raised the neck pickup quite a bit and get a nice syrupy tone without it mudding out on me. All in all, a nice guitar for the price, and even nicer with a couple of upgrades.

A solid platform

Ask me a question

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I have several guitars including 4 other ibanez's. I got this for use with a Roland GK-3 Midi pickup and needed something with enough room between the bridge and bridge pickup to mount the GK-3. The Edge trems typically are too close and I didn't feel like spending a lot of money. I've added Sperzel locking tuners and will likely upgrade the bridge with a Super-Vee Switchblade, though the stock trem isn't as bad as I thought if kept properly set up (I have it tight to the body so there is no up-pull.) All in all, it's a good platform to build from.
I give it a 7 here because, let's face it, this guitar is aimed at entry level players. As such it is priced accordingly. The tremolo is a basic non-locking strat style and suffers from all the issues that all non-locking trems have - tuning issues after tremolo use. The quick fix for this is locking tuners and light oil on all the areas the strings touch the bridge. Pickups are adequate, INF 2 and 4 are the pups they use in a lot of their guitars - they're hotter than a "classic" pickup but not as hot as say a DimZ Super Distortion. The neck and body are straight RG fare without any frills like bindings, etc. Look for one with a good neck body joint - you don't want a lot of gap in the neck pocket.
Quality is typical Ibanez, which is to say great. Of all the import brands, Ibanez has been doing it the longest and has the best quality control.
At the price you are getting a solid platform. Good body, good neck, decent electronics. Bridge and tuners are easy to replace but the fundamental elements of this axe are the same as the RG350s.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I walked into a music store looking to buy an Ibanez AW800NT acoustic guitar, and while I was waiting to be helped I saw this guitar. I have looked at this guitar before, but never played it. For the price this guitar is pretty good. The inf 3 and 4 humbuckers dont buzz at all, and are some the best stock pickups I've seen on a cheap guitar. The neck is pretty fast. After messing with the action it played really good. The reason I gave it a 4 on features is the tremelo system kinda sucks. I'm replacing it with a floyd rose original.

ive had this guitar for almost a year now.Over-all, its a kick a guitar, if ur considering getting it, be aware that the tremolow sometimes slippes the string outa tune, besides that, everything else is good(except for the toggle switch i broke off after 2 days=[)the sound is great/ the neck is thin and perfect.I LOVE THIS GUITAR

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I own the Red version of this guitar. This guitar has amazing quality and can handle any music. I would recomend it to any guitar player, weather you are just starting, or have been playing for many years. This guitar will stay in tune for an extreemly long time. When I left it home to go on vacation, I got back and didn't have to tune it. Also, if you turn the tone knob clockwise as far as it goes, you get a pretty realistic acoustic sound. The only down side to it is that if you hit it hard, it can scratch, but just put protective shine on it and you will be fine.

Barely Talent-Show Worthy

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

This was my first guitar. At first I thought it was a really good guitar. I thought it sounded good and it was easy to play. Now i realize that it isnt a very good guitar at all. Its sound is mediocre at best, it has absolutely no features, and the design is boring. I used to plug it into a Marshall MG15CDR and thought that the sound was good at first. Then i heard my friend play his PRS SE Custom through it and wow did i hear a difference. My overall sound was horrible compared to it. This guitar's pickups are not good at all. Distortion sounds horrible on them. I am currently in a band and we started out playing at the school's talent shows. That is about all this guitar is good for. It is good for middle school talent shows and maybe a freshman's talent show. This is not a gig-worthy guitar. Mainly because of its sound, but also because of its look. It is not a very good looking guitar. I gave the features a 2.5 because there are a lot of guitars out there that match this one. Very low quality sound and looks. I gave quality a 3 mainly because it sounds O.K. through my Metal Core distortion pedal. I gave value a 5 because for the money you shouldnt expect anything more from this guitar. Overall i give it a 2.5. If you are in a band or starting a band that gigs, i suggest you save up and buy a nicer guitar like a Schecter C-1FR. That is the guitar that i use currently. Wow it is a great guitar. Its pickups own the Ibanez's and it has stage quality looks. If you are just starting out on the guitar, i say this is the guitar for you. But be prepared to want something else after about 9 months if you dont take lessons and about 6 months if you do.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

The day i got this guitar i fell in love with it.It looks amazing out of the box.But the second i plugged it in to my marshall amp it screams. If you want to buy this make sure you get the white finish because it is stunning. The action is great, and the tuners are great. Some people say that tremelos make the guitar go out of tune but with this guitar it never go's out of tune when you use the tremelo. This is the best guitar ive played, but there is one drawback. The volume knob is too close to the strings and when you use the tremelo you got to be careful not to scrape the volume knob really bad.So if you want a good sounding, playable guitar this is the guitar for you.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

The Ibanez RG 120. When I was shopping I didn't know much about electric guitars. I had just always wanted an Ibanez RG model. Now that I know a ton more I'm glad I got this because I like to play metal. If you are looking for a cheap guitar and you like metal this is the one. Don't bother looking at a Squier strat pack or something like that if you like hard music. I would recommend this with a 15 watt Line 6 Spider III. I gave this a 4.5 on features because the tremolo system on it is kinda cheap but it's only a 200 dollar guitar. You're not gonna get Floyd Rose. I gave it a 4.5 on quality b/c it chips easy and sometimes the screws on the the rhythm pickup get loose. No big deal. The pickups on it are wonderful. I am however thinking of putting EMG's on it but that's not becuase the pickups aren't good. They are. Low action. Comfortable to play. I run it through a 120 watt Spider III and I'm very satisfied.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Ibanez RG120 a little more than a year ago, Im happy to say that it is still in great shape and no problems yet. I have installed Grover Mini machine heads. It greatly helps the guitar stay in tune, but sadly it don't hold it's tune well thanks to the tremolo. It is not nearly as sturdy as a locking tremolo, one good push on the whammy bar will throw it out of tune. Something I had hoped the Grovers would have helped with. Had a professional set the guitar up and the action is a bit too high for my personal prefrence, but Im not gonna mess up the nearly perfect intonation. It's not exact, but its close enough for me. My guitar came two allen wrenches, to adjust the neck and tremolo as needed. I also got an instructions booklet that was quite interesting to read actually. I learned a bit from it too. The sound is a tad muddy, the lower strings almost completely drown out the higher strings. A pickup upgrade will probably help with that issue. Now remember that some of the more expensive Ibanez guitars also have the INF 3 and 4 pickups, so buying this guitar will get you the same sound as the higher priced Ibanez guitars, just minus a locking tremolo. Over all its a pretty good guitar, especally for the price I paid for it. Ibanez gives you good quality for low prices. Ibanez is one guitar company I feel cares for its loyal followers. Thank you for reading my review. Have a good day =]

At first I didn't think much of the Ibanez guitars and I stuck with my B.C. Rich but I'm realizing that the thin, flat neck and shorter frets of the RG120 really help for speed.

I bought this guitar a few weeks ago and restrung it and tuned to drop c. Man this machine is fast! The neck and fretboard are so comfortable and it stays in tune with the extra spring that came with it that I put in. Loud and crunchy distortion and great on my Line 6 Spider III HD150 half-stack.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I have had this guitar for, about a little over a year. It was my second guitar, and it was an amazing improvement. The pickups are just crappy little cheap pickups, but they really arent THAT bad, however, the neck pickup sounds really bad distorted, but better clean, and the bridge sounds a lot better distorted than clean. The bridge feels nice. The neck is really thin, and I like that lol. Tuners arent bad, but when I tune them from lets say, standard to B, it is really hard to do so, at least, compared to my other guitars. The only thing that was bad for me, was that the Volume Knobs fell off, and I have yet to fix it (Super Glue), and also the input jack is screwed up, but thats also an easy fix. That stuff happened a few months after I got it. The knobs fell off right away.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

Got my taxes back and decided to buy a cheap guitar with a tremelo so I bought the ibanez rg120. First off the the tremelo holds tune like a squire bullet on a 90 degree day. Second the frets acautly stuck out over the edge of the neck had to take a metal file to it to make it playable. Third the pickups are horrible and the locks at the headstock dont do diddley dont waste your money on this

Almost perfect

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar today as a christmas gift and it is pretty good. If you have played another guitar before this one and you really liked it but wanted something cooler or better, this guitar may take a bit of getting used to. It only took me about twenty minutes to get used to. On my old guitar (a semi hollow body awd83 ibanez) the strings were perfectly in tune and the chords sounded great. When i tuned the new guitar to be perfectly in tune with the other one and played an A chord, a D chord and an E chord, they sounded out of tune but i checked and they were in tune. This kept on only for about ten minutes and then the chords were clean and good sounding. This mainly occurs when playing on distortion setting. The only thing i don't like about the guitar itself, is how close the high E string is to the end of the neck. When I pull off, say, from the 16th to the 14th to the 12th, the high E string often will slide off the neck. This is not a major problem. It looks really cool (I like/own the red one) and will most likely satisfy whoever plays it. It's got a whammy bar and 24 frets. I think it is worth more than it is priced. I have been playing for about two years and mainly like hard rock and heavy metal (my two favorite bands are AC/DC and System of a Down) but i basically like all rock n roll. This guitar is good for all genres...it is good on clean setting to "insane" (some amplifiers have). All in all, this is a good guitar and IS recommended for players of all levels.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for over 34 years and own many high end guitars, including a PRS, Gretsch,Fender Strat etc, but this guitar stays out of the case on a stand and is my go to guitar to work on songs or just for enjoyment. I actually bought mine used, for the purpose of having a guitar for drop c tuning in a cover band and did'nt want to spend major bucks. Once I set it up, it just sounded really good and played fine. Now Like I said its tuned standard and I play in everyday.Has a nice tone clean, both pick ups and dirty has a nice punch too. The middle position is my favorite for clean, everyday tones, has a gretsch sound to it almost, warm and well balanced. The neck is fast and the jumbo frets make it an ease to play. My other guitarist friends think I'm nuts, but I dig this axe.

Smooth axe, weak pickups.

Comments about Ibanez RG120 Electric Guitar:

I've owned this axe for over a year now. Good stuff I'd say....Mind you...the finish is beautiful, and the photos do it no credit.I personally require craploads of features, but that's just me...so I'll not detract from the score. I suppose it does what all Ibanez guitars do. It's more built around being able to be comfortable and focus on your technique.Great intonation...smooth playability for its price...and as said below...it SERIOUSLY stays in tune well considering it has a non-floyd trem and non-locking tuners. I still find myself shocked when it's in tune after constantly dive bombing out a two minute straight solo. For the average player or beginner....I'd say the only real problem is the stock pickups. Volume maxed out, they can probably do what you need...but the tone is not particularly versitile, the neck is pretty muddy, and the bridge doesn't handle distortion very well. Some GFS hot rails or lipstick 'buckers would be a wise companion order.
