Nice !

I received my Breedlove Passport N200/CMP nylon string acoustic guitar 3 months ago. It came with a Breedlove gigbag tailored for this guitar so, it fits perfect. It?s nothing to write home about but it does have dense padding to protect the guitar from getting scratched or dinged The guitar has a good first impression. The fit and finish on mine is almost perfect. String-spacing is perfectly even not only in relation to each other but, also the even spacing between the high and low E strings to the edges of the fretboard. The fret work is perfect and the 14th fret neck & body union is a nice feature. The fretboard is not completely flat like a classical guitar; there is a very slight radius to it. The guitar has a narrow nut-width; the company specs state the nut-width is 45mm, however, I measured mine and it is 47mm which was a pleasant surprise. Anything less than a 46mm would have made finger picking extremely challenging. The entire guitar has a satin-finish and I like that a lot. I hate the gloss finish between my skin and the wood. The gloss finish also prevents the solid-top from vibrating freely which is necessary for a better tone. Satin-finish guitars do get scratched and dinged easier though. The action is good out of the box. The tuning keys do keep the strings in tune for a reasonable amount of time. In addition to getting a rear-end strap-button, there is also a neck strap-button which is installed on the underside of the neck-heel. I do wish it was positioned at the end of the heel where there is a black triangular cap. Where it is right now gets in the way of reaching the higher frets. I like everything about the design of this guitar, the body outline, the bridge, and the headstock. The rosette design is simple but it complements the purity of the satin-finish. The compact body is very comfortable to hold and play, though it does not produces the lower frequency notes as well as a larger body. The sound of this guitar was not as impressive as its? looks when I received it. It was mediocre at best. I have played other nylon string guitars in the $300 range that, I was more impressed with the volume and the tone. Do keep in mind that solid tops project a better sound the more they are played. Since I received mine the sound has opened up a lot; I like the tone much better now.My only real gripe with this guitar is the size of the neck-profile; it?s a bit bulky and beefy and it doesn?t need to be. Nylon strings don?t have that great of a tension to bust the neck if it had thinner dimensions.

Breedlove N200/CMP . Demands consideration

By Slothead Jeff

The Breedlove Passport N200/CMP is a new nylon string entry providing a capable and competent choice of a ?classical style? guitar with modern players? amenities. With construction quality comparable to Martin?s 16 series, for a type of guitar that Martin (try to find a slot head and/or nylon string Martin today!) and Taylor (offering nylon strings guitars decidedly miss-braced) both currently slight, Breedlove moves up in the competency challenge by producing, in its Korean factory, a fabulously underpriced, fan braced, solid cedar topped, comfortably concert sized, near Dreadnaught depth finger picker that is far better in cut and finish than its price commands. Smoothly satin finished and with a neck of undetermined material (say Martin?s ?select hardwood?), the guitar features a solid and resonate red cedar sounding board and an appropriately (for the price) stained birch laminate back and sides, a neck with dimensions close to pre-?pre war? Martins (not classical however ?gut?), and with quality control superior to other nameless Korean made products imported by many current name plates. Finally, set up in Bend Oregon, accompanied by a stiff Breedlove gig back, an extra saddle and shims (inappropriately free for the price). Best value for a guitar this 6 slothead Martin owner has ever seen.
