Don't Forget

(Open Box) Enhanced bracing system ensures consistent, long-term tonal balance.

The OM-40 was born from years of research and testing, and features Jean Larrivee's first new bracing pattern in over 46 years. This "Scalloped Parabolic Hybrid" bracing system perfectly merges the strength, tonal balance and clarity of Larrivee bracing, with the bass response, depth and volume you'd expect from a vintage dreadnought.

Made only in America, the OM-40 comes standard with an exceptional feature set compared to similar style instruments from other manufacturers. The OM-40 has a solid African ebony fretboard and bridge, single-piece mahogany neck, Canadian maple binding, bone saddle, bone nut, and bone bridge pins. Other features include a Grover 18:1 open back tuners, non-shrink tortoise pickguard, double-action truss rod (easily adjusted at full-string tension), re-enforcement for side mount electrics, durable acrylic satin finish, bold rope purfling, arch top case and a lifetime warranty.

Comments about Larrivee OM-40 Legacy Series Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

The only thing I liked about this guitar was the maple body binding, had they done the neck in maple binding instead of the funny looking lined zombie bone white bolotron, I may have tried to make it more playable. as it sits, the neck clashes with the body looking like it belongs on some other guitar.

I adjusted the truss rod to flat neck no relief and still couldn't achieve acceptable action at the nut. Out of the box you'll have to address action at the nut, 3/32 or almost 1/16th inch is unacceptable to me. That is about what it should be at the 17th fret. Made barre chords almost impossible. Seemed the nut also was cut too deep and strings bind in them while tuning.

The rope purfling looks like a cheap imitation of herringbone and is more blue than black. the nut width is almost 2 inches. Widest neck at the nut I have ever played, more then 1 3/4 almost 1 15/16". Very uncomfortable for me. Might be okay if you have big hands like Chuck Berry or BB King.

I didn't like the frets, they seemed railroad tie large. The owners manual was very informative for the care and maintenance of real wood acoustic guitars. Did not like the satin finish, made the guitar look like a cheap low end import.

I would give this a no thank you. for the same money you can get a Martin 000-15M and IMO the Martin is a better buy for features, play-ability, tone and price.

I had high hopes for Larrivee but it failed to live up to it's own hype in my opinion.

Comments about Larrivee OM-40 Legacy Series Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

The fit and finish of this guitar is excellent, a very clean job. However, I deducted one star because the string spacing at the nut was off. The distance between the first and second strings was slightly wider than the others which placed the string a bit closer to the edge of the fretboard. The included case is sturdy and provides a snug fit for the guitar.

Comments about Larrivee OM-40 Legacy Series Mahogany Acoustic Guitar:

I am an OM aficionado. Love the orchestra size for its tone, feel and playability. The Larrivee OM-40 is an awesome example of this model. I have owned OMs from Martin, Collings, Santa Cruz and other Larrivee's and this is the one I am keeping. It is the perfect combination of price, value, quality, fit & finish, playability. Love this guitar. I dropped a K&K Pure Mini in it and it sounds so nice running through a PA. All solid wood, satin finish excellent quality and plays and feels wonderful. Love the understated vintage vibe and the build quality.

The one odd thing was that there was/is a very strong smell of glue and or finish with the guitar. Particularly strong when you first open the case and was VERY strong when I first got it. It is lessening over time and should be gone soon…..that or I am getting used to it!
