OVERVIEW

(Open Box) Old-school style and authentic Supro tone.

The Westbury is a 21st-century update of the Supro electric solid-body guitar. The elegant comfort of the 1960’s-era beveled-edge Ozark body shape and the mighty sound of the original field-coil pickups have been enhanced with an ultra-fast satin neck, Tune-o-matic bridge and updated wave tailpiece. The result is a modern player’s instrument with old-school style and authentic Supro tone.

The unique Gold Foil pickups found in the Supro Westbury are faithful reproductions of the original magnetics developed for Valco by Ralph Keller in the early 1950s. These pickups, which gave voice to the vintage Chicago-made Supro guitars, have a massive, broadband sound with remarkably low noise for a single-coil design. The humbucker-sized Gold Foil bridge pickup found in the Westbury is slightly overwound, while the neck pickup is reverse-wound in order to provide fully hum-cancelling sound when the two pickups are combined by selecting the middle position of the 3-way toggle switch.

The time-tested tone wood recipe of an alder body paired with a 25.5 in.-scale maple neck and rosewood fretboard combine with the Westbury's vintage-correct pickups to produce an exceptionally dynamic playing experience. Blending vintage American tone with refined set-neck design, the Supro Westbury is intended for the professional musician who needs an ergonomic and versatile guitar capable of handling most genres of music with authority. The Westbury’s dual pickup configuration lets the player switch effortlessly between warm, single-coil neck pickup sounds, throaty bridge tones, or a perfectly balanced, parallel combination of both pickups for rhythm work.

The Westbury guitar and its relatives in the Island Series represent the rebirth of the Supro brand as a stringed instrument manufacturer. The Supro Island Series of guitars was designed by David Koltai and Glenn Sweetwood, with technical assistance from master designer Trevor Wilkinson and vintage pickup expert Ken Calvet. Case sold separately.

Comments about Supro Westbury Electric Guitar:

I've played 35 yrs. I have owned 200's of guitars over the years. I play out intermittently. That's my background. This is cool guitar with great retro sex appeal. It looks great and plays well. What makes this guitar special is the pickups. Nothing sounds like gold foil pickups. Chimey and beefy all at the same time. Thicker than singles while retaining the chime less mods than most humbuckers. Great clean and overdriven. Great for blues and rock. This is not for metal. Guitar is built well. Hardware is decent. Set up was a bit high - easy to adjust and not an issue. Finish is nice. Overall nice cheapo oddball retro charm but with decent playability and awesome tone
Here are my two gripes. Price is high considering the hardware quality and lack of case or bag. Subjective but my opinion. Strings came rusted with the high e broken. Obviously no one looked at this before it was shipped

Comments about Supro Westbury Electric Guitar:

I didn't get this from Musicians friend, however I have purchased loads of stuff from them in the past.

This is a great guitar! I have the blue metallic and the finish is flawless. The guitar was set up out of the box with perfectly aligned pickguard and hardware. Immaculate presentation.

The guitar plays great. It is built very well and robust. The headstock nameplate is cool. The frets are large and comfortable, and the satin finish on the neck was something I didn't even know I needed until i played it. A very nice touch. It stays in tune well, however i wouldn't mind larger tuning heads. The bridge is great as is the intonation. The pots could probably be replaced, but that's not too big a deal for me - they seems to cut volume/tone pretty quickly and I prefer it to be more subtle. The pickups are nice as well. They have a unique sound. The bridge is slightly jangly and bright, but seems to be pretty high output, as I can get some very nice overdriven tones from it. The neck is warm and thick sounding. But the middle position is godly. I mostly play here. It is very thick and warm, but slightly bright at the same time somehow. It is not muddy, but complex. It just sounds fantastic.

The price is a bit high (for me) but considering how much guitar you get its a deal. I have owned this thing for about 7 months and have zero plans of ever selling it.
