Don't Forget

Maximum tone and supreme playability, at a streamlined price.

Ovation AX Series Guitars offer the exact same specs and features of their LX siblings at a price that makes them exceptional values.

The Ovation Elite 2078 AX Deep Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar features a hand-selected, deluxe AA solid-spruce top with LX scalloped bracing. The guitar's Deep Contour Bowl composite body maximizes acoustic output and is ergonomically designed for comfort in any playing position. Ovation's pioneering multi-soundhole design enhances string vibration and sustain by improving soundboard efficiency. The guitar's upper-bout soundholes are inlaid with exotic hardwoods, and a cutaway offers full access to the gloss-finished, 5-piece mahogany/maple neck. With its onboard compressor, the OP-Pro Studio preamp enhances strummed chords, fingerpicked arpeggios, and single-note solos.

Deep Bowl
Ovation's Deep Bowl body generates maximum unamplified volume and enormous low end, yet it's easier to hold and play then a traditional jumbo-body guitar. Models sporting Deep Bowl bodies also perform impressively when plugged in, thanks to Ovation's advanced onboard electronics. A "sonic cannon" that shines either unplugged or through a sound system or stage amp, a Deep Bowl Ovation offers the best of both electric and acoustic worlds.

Advanced Neck System
A lightweight dual-action truss rod makes precision adjustments simple. Carbon fiber stabilizers keep the fingerboard perfectly aligned at the neck/body joint.

OP-Pro Studio
The OP-Pro Studio combines state-of-the-art audio quality with exclusive features designed to meet the needs of professional guitarists. The easy-to-operate unit offers 3-band EQ, exciter and compressor/limiter circuitry, and a chromatic tuner. Ovation's exclusive Expressor and Drive sliders put dynamic control and harmonic enhancement at your fingertips, allowing you to dial in the precise amount of sustain and punch required by the music.

The Op-Pro Preamp is voiced to give you arena-sized sound with a minimum of eq gymnastics. Every improvement comes directly from the needs of pro players and sound.

Patented Pickup
Six separate elements sense both string and top vibration, giving you a better string-to-string balance, no matter what string type or guage you use.

Inlaid Epaulets
The exotic wood leaf-shaped "epaulets" are now inlaid into the top with laser precision. The new cleaner design actually offers a slight sound enhancement.

Scalloped Bracing
Play an LX and prepare to be impressed by the hugeness of the acoustic sound. Deeper, richer but with the legendary Ovation balance and clarity.

Lyrachord Body
The smooth, hard composite Lyrachord GS body improves projection and reflects top vibrations better than traditional material and is now even lighter and stronger. Includes case.

Comments about Ovation Elite 2078 AX Deep Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

You will be drawn to this guitar because it's both atypical and beautiful in appearance once you are captured by the grape clustered multiple sound holes as was I. It's also relatively inexpensive given its features. I found it an "economical" way to purchase the Ovation look for my collection without having to move up to the Adamas models which are three to four time more expensive. FYI,Ovation Adamas guitars remain Ovation's USA made brand (New Hartford, CT) while all other Ovations are now produced in Korea, as is the Elite, covered here. Fender music corporation, who now owns Ovation, chose this route after acquiring the company.
The Elite has no sonic limits when plugged in. The Pro-Op pre-amp system features an "expressor" slider that adds or subtracts harmonic richness to the overall Elite sound. It works in conjunction with a drive dial that controls the level of expression. Along with the three band tone control and an outstanding pick up, the Elite can conjure up some enticing sounds. (I play it through a Fishman Loudbox Performer.)
The neck is more akin to what you'd expect with an electric guitar (albeit a bit fatter) with a nut width of 1 5/8 inches. Nice for easier to attain bar chords but less accomdating for finger-pickers. The deep contour bowl is reasonably comfortable but plan on using a strap to hold the Elite in a comfortable position. The action out of the box is reasonable but at least in my Elite's case, could benefit from a set-up. This is not a lightning fast neck but falls within what one might expect for a mid-level acoustic guitar. As alluded to above, acoustic tone is average and in my opinion volume is somewhat subdued when compared with a similarly priced Ovation Legend that uses a standard centered round sound hole. (I own one of those as well, an older USA made model)I would not compare its acoustic tone to a high end Martin or a highend Taylor. The Ovation Elite has a sound of its own that works just fine so long as you are not expecting a rich sounding, all wood, Martin Dreadnaught. Again, the Elite comes to life when plugged into a sweet sounding acoustic amplifier. All things considered, I've no regrets on the purchase and the Elite looks beautiful when not being played, hanging on the wall. Guitar art work, if you will....

Comments about Ovation Elite 2078 AX Deep Contour Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own Taylor, Martin and Breedlove acoustic electrics. I own American deluxe Fenders and Gibson les Paul Standards. This is the BEST playing acouostic I have ever had the pleasure of playing. It sounds great pliugged or unplugged. It is now my go to acoustic and I paid less than half what I paid for the "over hyped" Taylor and "over hyped" Martin. The others may be solid wood but they don't play as well or sound as good plugged in as this and they are barely equal unplugged in tone. This guitare does have a AA solid spruce top. Wish I would have bought this years ago, rather than the "investment" of sticking thousands into an all solid wood hype.

Well made, beautiful to listen to or look at and a much better electronics system than is offewred by Taylor or Martin.
