A new finish, a new neck, and Narrowfield pickups for more tonal flexibility.

PRS's new 22 fret, 25" scale length Studio model electric guitar is a fresh, modern rendition of a traditional single-single-hum guitar set up with the beauty and brightness of a figured maple top. The possibilities are vast with PRS's proprietary 57/08 Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions in conjunction with a 57/08 humbucking bridge pickup. The Narrowfield„¢ pickups focus the string attack much like a single-coil but are hum canceling. The result is a new sounding pickup system, which blends features of single-coil, soap bar, and humbucking pickups. Screaming lead tones, crisp rhythm tones and 5-way blade switch with push/pull switching gives a coil-split humbucker tones that can be blended with Narrowfield pickups that enhance the flexibility of this guitar in the studio or on stage.

Other features include mahogany neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, "pattern neck" shape, 2011 birds, PRS tremolo bridge, PRS locking tuners, nickel or gold hardware, and redesigned lampshade knobs volume and push/pull tone controls.

V12 Finish
Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.

Pattern Neck Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for us and a hallmark of our quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. Perfected after years of prototyping, the new "Pattern" neck is an updated Wide Fat PRS neck style based on Paul's pre-factory design. These necks were found on the instruments built for Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton and Howard Leese from the late 70's to the mid 80's.

Comments about PRS Studio Electric Guitar:

On thing that required adjustment is the height of the P/U's. I had to raise the bridge P/U a bit to raise the volumn to keep up with the N/F's.
This guitar has several different sounds-from single coil like sounds in the front two Narrow Field P/U's to gnarly H/B sounds in the bridge P/U. It also mixes the N/F's split with single coils in the neck/middle and middle/bridge positions. The bridge P/U coiled tapped with the middle P/U brings on a Tele sound.
The trem is a good one-the first I have ever had but it stays in tune-good for me.
Workmanship is impeccable. Mine has the "Pattern" neck which is in between my 07 American Deluxe Tele and 10 R8 Le Paul. The V12 finish is not tacky-the neck is fast and easy to play. Fret work is top rate and the nut is cut just right.
I didn't get a 10 Top but the top on this guitar is unique and quite pretty-in my opinion. This is my first PRS but probably won't be my last mainly due to the fast neck. It also came with the nicest case this side of a Martin Geib case. It is thick, heavy and provides protection to the guitar. Also, it is made of wood-I hate guitar cases that have the metal edge around the circumference. I am always afraid of scratching the guitar when I place it in the case.

Comments about PRS Studio Electric Guitar:

Treated myself to this on a whim as a b'day gift.It must have a built-in guitarist c'os I can't play this well can I ? just one of the nicest bits of kit ever imho. If I only had my 6120 jr back life would be almost complete. There is not a bad note in this guitar, light, classy well balanced and the trem. is a dream. I was a die-hard strat man but this is numero uno.
