I have owned this guitar for 15 months and overall I am very pleased with it. Mine came with a ding in the binding, but does not affect playability at all. I was a little angry about it because it was not a blem that I paid for. But I didn't want the hassle of sending it back. Over time one of the tuning keys did tighten up a little on me. It does stay in tune pretty well.I always tweak out the tuning before each practice anyway. If I play longer than an hour I have to tweak it again. But thats what guitars do, they go out of tune when you play them. This was my first guitar and I have been happy overall. The neck is straight as an arrow and no signs of cracks or warpage anywhere. The upper registers are slightly sharp, so it probably needs a truss rod adjustment. But I haven't taken the time to take it to a tech for that. The electronics are surprisingly good too. It sounds great plugged in.I keep lighter gauge strings on it, because the heavy gauge strings seem to bind up in the nut and make tuning more difficult. Since this guitar, I bought a Les Paul Studio, and I am planning on buying a Taylor acoustic. But I will always keep my Rogue. If your expecting a Taylor for a $***, then don't buy it.But if you just want an everyday player and work horse, then you won't find a better guitar for the money. And it does have good tone.

I was looking for a guitar to buy as a Christmas present for my daughter. Of course when it arrived, I had to check it out to make sure it was playable. It was. I listened to the tone. It was nice. I then attempted to put the 9 volt battery in. What a joke. No instruction and to pop off the top to insert it you nearly rip all the wiring out of the guitar. When I finally got it in and secured it, I plugged in the amp and the distortion from the bad connection was unbearable. If I held the guitar real still I could see that it would have been a nice sounding guitar acoustically and amplified. As it stands, it's junk. I didn't buy a new guitar so I could pay to get it repaired. Bottom line, I sent it back as fast as I could and didn't look back. MF wasted my time on this baby, now I'm still looking for a gift at the last minute.S

Great deal

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this as a practice guitar - one to toss in the car for the weekend or around the campfire. I've been pleasantly surprised at its full sound - even plugged in. The only drawback I've seen is the tuners - they don't seem to hold it in tune consistently, I'll probably upgrade these. Otherwise, you can't get a better deal - and it looks great, too!

Excellent!!

By Krackhead

from Massapequa Park, NY

Just got the guitar and what a great buy! Upon opening it up, first of all there was a suprise...a free wire! Next, I took the guitar out of its packaging which could have been done a little better...and I checked out the guitar. There were a couple minor chips on the top which were barely noticeable but could have been avoided with better shipping. Its not really something worth returning it for a new one though. I went ahead and strumed the thing and it sounded really good and much better than my old ovation celebrity deluxe. Next I tested the preamp. Getting the battery in was really odd. I never really saw a battery go in like that on an acoustic/electric and so It took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. An owners manual would have been nice...I finally figured it out and plugged it in and it sounded really good...just like some of martin's instruments do...The finish also looks really nice. It's a good thing I decided to go with the gold waranty because the electronics look like they may be a problem in the future with normal use. However, This guitar is worth the money immensely..Go out and buy one if your looking for an acoustic/electric and cannot afford it.. You won't be dissapointed.

UNBELIEVABLE

By Blu-Gras

from Guin, AL

I have been playing the gutiar for 45 years. I have owned just about every major brand. I have a Martin, Gibson, Fender and now I have a Rogue. I have to be honest and say I would just as soon play my new Rogue as any of the others. I can't believe the guality for that price. I play at Church every Sunday and Wednesday. All I wanted was just a practice guitar, but this will be the one I use all time. Thanks Musician's Friend for offering such a deal as this. your are truly a "friend" to the musician. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. Oh, what a bargain! That comes from experience.

Beyond expectations. For the price you pay, absolutely a steal. Sounds great and give it up to the person who put that extra attention to detail with the paintjob!!! I am enjoying every minute of playing with it. Only drawback so far, was the way you insert the battery, it's not as easy as it seems, but overal quality is amazingly fantastic. Highly recommended!!! Whether you're a pro or not, it's worth it!

Built to last

By Steve-0vSei

I got this guitar about a year ago, and I have to say I am very pleased overall with it's performance. It is durable, and stays in tune better than my ovation. However, it is not solid mahagony. The guitar is made only with thin sheets of plywood with mahagony on top. All the same, it produces a jaw-dropping sound. It sounds loud amazing due to its deep body. The only other complaint I have is the electronics. The pickup inside is not well made. If you plan on plugging it in to record with, try something else. The bottom line is this: If you are a beginner, or even an expert looking for something they wont have to worry about scratching or chipping while playing around campfires, this is the way to go. If you like recording like I do, try an ovation.

When I first saw this guitar, I figured it would be an ok guitar, nothing spectacular - not horrible, but ok. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when I took this thing outta the box. It's got a b-e-a-utiful finish. After replacing the strings with Elixirs, I was good to go. The thing has an incredible sound acoustically as well as plugged in. Definitely a great deal, whether you want a nice acoustic electric for gigs, or you just want something to kinda bang around with. With this price and quality you can't go wrong!

Great guitar at a Great price!

By letteerj

from Stillwater, PA

The body is beautiful with the wood grain polished to a high glossy shine. It has a full, rich sound which is easily fine-tuned with the equalizer. The best surprise was that it has a nice narrow neck and is a bit shorter than other dreadnoughts. Perfect for us "girls"!

Mean Da Dope

By K-Dawg-Q5PgY

Just got mine shipped in last week. Although the shipping out here to Hawaii is $** the Rogue is still an excellent deal. After changing out the strings and filing the saddle it sounds great acoustic or plugged. I've played guitars that were priced up to twenty times as much and I have to say that the Rogue is very compariable. Placed my order on Sunday and got it by Wednesday in perfect condition. The electronics are slightly primitive and watch out when you put in the battery in. Keys do slip but so what I just saved a bunch of money. No shame in being a cheap skate I love this guitar.

do not let the price fool you, i'm willing to bet good money that this guitar is equal to or better than guitars three times it's price. If you're even thinking about buying this one, then i suggest just buying it. The finish is perfect and it sound great acoustically and even greater plugged in. If you're really picky then you can file down the bridge and lower the action a little and change out the strings. I'll stick with the factory set-up until the martin strings wear out but i like that sharp, clear sound you get from the light martins so it's a matter of preference. The only thing i regret is not buying the guitar when it was on sale for less. But i'll easily pay twice the cost for the same guitar.

A great value !

I've had my Rogue dreadnought for 15 months now and I have to say It couldn't have been a sweeter deal unless they put some ice cream on it. Great tone, good intonation, sturdy guitar. I did lower the action a little by filing the saddle a bit. I've played it aggressively every day for the last 15 months and it has only gotten better. If your on a budget, or want a decent everyday strummer... buy it. You won't be dissapointed. A lot of bang for your buck. I've played other guitars costing more, and this one is just as good if not better.

Awesome Guitar

The quality of Rogue instruments never ceases to amaze me. I was surprised when I took it out of the box and saw the high gloss finish. In the picture, it looked like a satin finish. This guitar is absolutely gorgeous! The setup and action was perfect. This guitar actually feels better and sounds as good or better than my $600.00 Takamine and my $2000.00 Martin D35. It sounds great unplugged or amplified. It's not every day you can get professional quality at an entry level price. I rate this guitar a 10 all the way. There is no way you can go wrong with this guitar. Buy it, you'll be impressed and love it!

Great Value

By D. Krouse

The box arived in 5 business days, a bit damaged, but the interior packing kept the guitar safe and damage free. The color and quality far exceeded what I expected for the price. Tonal quality is good and working the bridge to lower the strings was also fairly easy.

Dark and Deep

By Acoustic Engineer

from Monroeville, OH

I've been lookin' around for a good cheap guitar that was a little out of the ordinary acoustic genre.(natural top with dark sides and back) And this was a godsend. After I changed the strings and lowered the bridge a little it turned into a real nice guitar. And it just looks so good. Its east to play and the onboard electrics are great. It's just an all around great guitar.

Perhaps I was the unlucky one, but I went through three of these Rogues and all had issues. If I could have combined the positives from all three, I would have one heck of a nice guitar for the price! I am tempted to give them one more shot, but I just don't know. I have a Rogue Herringbone a/c very simular and I hit gold on the first try!Pretty guitar (mahogany) great sounding electronics. Worth a shot...good luck!

Surprisingly Excellent

By Jimmy Joe

Simply put...other guitar companies would charge anywhere from $400 to $1000 or, if it said Martin or Gibson, etc., maybe more. I don't know if the neck and top will hold up through the years, but for now, it's an astounding value. This guitar is playable for gigs, in the real workaday musician's world, as is, no changes needed. The setup and neck and intonation were fine. There are a few, minor, minor, minor cosmetic blems -- very hard to see, nothing more serious than a $3000 Gibson that I bought once...I took it back because the value just wasn't there. Is China the next world ruler????????

Great for the price

Great guitar for the price. Admittedly, I am a beginner, however my guitar has been played by more advanced guitarists and they were impressed. Change the strings, and you've got a pretty good guitar for the price. Electronics are okay, not great, but enough for anything I need.

Great Guitar!!!

By Picardy-lZMx-

When I first saw this guitar I was a litle skeptical, but for the price I thought, "what the heck." Man, was I suprised to find it to be such a great guitar! Honestly this guitar sounds almost just as good as my friend's high-end Takamine. If you're looking for a guitar to jam with or maybe even perform this is a great one to start with.

What's a Rogue?

By Telelicious

from Andover, KS

See all my reviews

Well, it's actually a helluva of guitar--BUT it will require some set-up. I took the saddle and the nut down considerably. The bridge was a really nice peice of wood with a glossy finish I didn't care for, so I steel-wooled that back to natural. Set of XL strings and tuned it up. Wow, very mellow, folksy sound coming from a $100 guitar. The unit itself is actually well made, all mahogany, nice joints and really nice finish. The plug-in which doubles as a strap button was loose and gave some awful pops when I plugged in, so I replaced it. This might be an isolated case, but I read other reviews where this happened on other Rogue models. Thing is, if you have never experienced an all mahongany A/E and don't want to spend big $$ to do so, get one of these guys first. You will be pleasantly surprised at the sound and construction.
