Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

First of all, I've been playing a Les Paul for about 10 years as my ONLY guitar. Why? Nothing else sounded as good to me. I've always wanted a 7 string though and I actually bought this one against my better judgement.

I usually don't care for basswood bodies and I ALWAYS swap the stock pickups when I buy a guitar. Not on this one - I was literally blown away by the sound of this thing. I was completely shocked. Distorted tones are clear, full and alive. Clean sounds are pristine and tight. Overall the sound is very tight but still very organic.

The bridge isn't bad and generally stays in tune after moderate dives. The switches knobs and jack all feel solid, nothing sketchy about them. Locking tuners are nice. Finish looks great. I have absolutely no issues with the width of the neck. The guitar is a pleasure to play.

Now on to the few cons. Maybe it was just mine, but it wasn't even close to set up when I got it. Intonation was out, lots of fret buzz due to action being too low. I actually had to put a different brand of strings on to get the intonation right. The nut seems kind of cheap and may need some mild work in the grooves. I also wish the 7 string JP guitar was a 26.5 or 27 inch scale rather than the 25.5. Thats not a big deal though, I just use a .060 for the low B. My Epi Les Paul came with a hardshell case, kind of wish this had as well.

Bottom line though, you will be shocked by how good this guitar is. It sounds amazing and is SO easy and comfortable to play. I am likely going to buy the 6 string version in the near future as well.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

Picked up this guitar in Transparent Green as I was looking for my first 7-string guitar. At this price point, it probably has the best features, but isn't perfect.

Pros: I was surprised at how thin and fast the neck feels. The neck is unfinished (which I prefer) and my hand glides up and down the neck, no problem. The action was surprisingly low which was a huge plus. The finish on the body and headstock is really nice, again, better than I expected. The trem feels real solid and the locking tuners are nice.

Cons: Like others have mentioned there can be tuning issues after bending a string. This is due to the lack locking nut. I've heard putting graphic in the nut helps this but I haven't tried. Honestly, the tuning issue isn't that bad, but I minor annoyance.

The pickups are okay. I didn't expect to like them. I'd pretty much expect to replace pickups on any guitar in this price range. However, they aren't atrocious. So the P/U's aren't really a pro or con.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I'v been playing guitar for 15 years and had all different brands "Dean,Ltd,Schecter,Jackson,Ibanez,B.C. Rich,Gibson,&Fender", recently got into the 7 string game and this is hands down next to the actual ernie ball guitars plays the best it seems smaller and easier to play then my schecter or jackson 7 strings i already own and weights nothing compared to them even lighter then most my 6 string guitars so adds to the comfort when playing iv had mine for about 2 and a half weeks now and it is my go to guitar when wanna practice or jam the pickups could be better but with a decent rig set up it'll be fine this thing will scream, and as far as keeping its tuning i have had 0 problems with that, i love the tremolo system every other guitar i own is a floyd rose set up and this guitar will keep up in almost everyway i personally enjoy this tremolo set up better with out the locking nut so overall i give this guitar 5 star rating would recommend to anyone I will be buying and using more sterling and ernie ball guitars in the future.. One more thing the finish is absolutely amazing i got the green and no regrets my favorite purchase in along time...

Using it for highly technical progressive metal band. Wanted a 7 string so I would not need to retune.

Comments about Sterling by Music Man JP70 7-String Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar around two weeks now and tuned it after I got it out of the box and have barely had to retune it since. Even after hundreds of dives on the whammy bar it refuses to go out of tune. Plays great and looks just as good.
