A comfortable twelve string made of sustainable materials that doesn™t skimp on tone.
The Taylor 2012 GA3-12-L Sapele/Spruce Grand Auditorium 12-String Left-Handed Acoustic Guitar is as beautiful sounding as it is looking. The 12-string is part of acoustic guitar lore, and a major part of Taylor history. The non-cutaway sapele/sitka acoustic version is a contemporary take on the tradition. True 12-string tone in a more slender hourglass shape for a smaller sonic footprint, and constructed of sustainable sapele for a smaller ecological footprint.
Grand Auditorium (GA)
The Grand Auditorium shape of the GA3e embodies the ultimate all-purpose acoustic. The mid-size Grand Auditorium falls between a Dreadnought and Grand Concert. The shape produces an original acoustic voice that is big enough to handle medium-strength picking and strumming, yet with impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially in the midrange, producing clear, well-defined notes that suited both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The GA' overall presence tracks well with other instruments both in a studio mix and on stage.
An alternative tonewood that joined the Taylor fold over a decade ago. Unlike many popular tonewoods, sapele is a highly sustainable, relatively fast-growing wood from West Africa. Tonally, it does everything that mahogany does, with a little extra treble zing. Like ovangkol, it' a great all-purpose tonewood that will deliver a consistent, balanced tone in a variety of playing applications, from fingerstyle to strumming.
Twelve-strings generally employ heavier braces than 6-strings in order to handle the increased tension of twice the number of strings, and to prevent the top from being overdriven. Taylor 12-strings have thicker tops and thicker pin plates. They have heavier, non-scalloped bracing, to support the top and adequately amplify the tone of the guitar.
