A beautiful instrument with an Engelmann spruce top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and Taylor Expression System electronics.

For many guitar players, Indian rosewood is what it' all about. Taylor offers this classic tonewood in three premium classes, starting with the 700 Series®. Elegant rosewood binding, mother-of-pearl dot inlays, abalone rosette, Venetian cutaway, and the Expression System pickup make this Taylor series a timeless statement of tone and taste. The Taylor 2012 714ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar combines the full-bodied sound of Indian rosewood with an Engelmann spruce top that yields a slightly more aged tone than Sitka. This Grand Auditorium guitar will shine in any venue.

Indian Rosewood
One of the most popular and traditional guitar woods of all time, rosewood takes the basic sonic thumbprint of mahogany (which has a strong midrange) and expands it in both directions. Rosewood sounds deeper in the low end and brighter on the top end (one might describe the treble notes as zesty, sparkly or sizzly, with more articulation). If you look at its frequency range visually, rosewood would appear to be more scooped in the middle, yielding less midrange bloom than mahogany. Like mahogany, rosewood' vintage heritage has helped firmly establish its acoustic legacy. It' a great sound in part because we know that sound. In some music circles in which preserving the traditional sound helps bring a sense of authenticity to the music ” certain strains of Americana, for example ” rosewood has an iconic status. Also like mahogany, rosewood is a versatile tonewood, which has contributed to its popularity. One can fingerpick it, strum it and flatpick it. It' very consistent, so players can usually rely on it to deliver.

Grand Auditorium (GA)
The GA is Taylor' most versatile and popular shape, excelling at light-touch fingerstyle to full-blown strumming. Great for mic™ing and recording, the GA' balanced mid-range and bright tone exemplify the Taylor voice.

Expression System®
Using proprietary pickup technology developed at Taylor, the Expression System® amplifies your guitar with an unrivaled, natural live sound. Onboard tone controls provide added flavor, or set flat for an uncolored, exceptionally-clean amplified sound. It' your tone. Amplified.

The finish used to create this guitar's lustrous gloss top, back, and sides was developed at Taylor for maximum durability and resistance to cold-checking. This ultra violet-cured finish is also more environmentally friendly than traditional lacquer finishes. Available in natural finish.

Comments about Taylor 714ce Rosewood/Spruce Grand Auditorium Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am a semi-professional musician and a guitar teacher. I play mostly lead guitar for a large church.

I have owned countless guitars over the years, but I have never found "the right guitar" that makes me 100% satisfied...until now.

Nothing even comes close to this beauty. To be honest, I wanted a plain-Jane solid sitka spruce top with rosewood back and sides. I do not like the gold hardware on most of the guitars that meet this criteria and the higher end guitars sport too much "bling" for my conservative taste. I was even sceptical of the sunburst finish because I thought it might be "too much". I took a leap of faith and ordered the guitar online from Musician's Friend.

I was blown away when I opened the box. The brown case fits the guitar extremely well and is a perfect fit for this guitar. It feels more sturdy and less bulky than most full-size cases. The interior of the case is a beautiful mahogany color.

The color on this guitar is stunning! It is the perfect mixture of class, style and tradition. The finish is warm and flawless. The neck fits perfectly in my hand and has the right radius - my fingers fly down the frets.

Given all of the above, the selling point on this guitar is the tone. Close your eyes and play one note. It is the perfectly balanced spruce/rosewood combination that so many guitar manufactures try to nail. This Taylor has nailed it. The sound cuts through the mix and has the warm lows and articulate highs that you would hope to hear in a high end guitar, but often struggle to find.

There is one problem with this guitar. It is so amazing that I don't want to put it down. All I want to do is play. I can't take my eyes off of the guitar. The finish is that good. The photos online do not do it justice.

I have purchased my last acoustic guitar. yeah, its that good.
