OVERVIEW

All-solid-wood construction with torrefaction processed top and other vintage appointments for a classic, '30s vibe.

The 1939 Washburn Solo DeLuxe Super Auditorium 5246 is the inspiration behind the all-solid Revival Series Solo DeLuxe. Period details such as the narrow "Crown" headstock, 1939 Vintage Sunburst, ivoroid binding and rosette, fingerboard inlay and period faux-tortoise pickguard combine to create a visually stunning acoustic guitar.

The torrefaction process is applied to both soundboard and bracing to age these materials such that internal resins are crystallized and suspended water removed; much like what would naturally happen over the course of 20+ years of air drying. Mated with solid Indian rosewood back and sides and a bone nut and saddle, the result is its pre-war voice that will cause pause to anyone listening to this magnificent instrument. The Solo DeLuxe's 1-3/4 in. nut width and narrow, C-shaped neck optimize playing comfort. Graph Tech Ratio-Tuned open-back tuners and D'Addario EXP strings complete this exquisite instrument.

Deluxe hardshell case included.

Comments about Washburn Revival Series Solo DeLuxe Acoustic Guitar:

Great guitar. I bought this to play a long side my Martin, Taylor, and Guild guitars. I realize these are more expensive guitars but this is the top of the line for Washburn. Here is the breakdown.

Sound: Similar to my Guild, sitting somewhere in between Taylor bright and Martin dark. Good projection and balance. Still not the holy grail sound I am looking for but likely will be played as much as my Guild.

Playability: Good setup, neck feels nice(a little slim). Fretwire is a little thinner than on my other guitars.

Build quality: Everything aspect other than the finish is outstanding. The finish seems to be more brittle than higher end guitars and was chipping slightly in a spot. The binding looks a little cheesy but is flush and uniform.

Tuners: Best tuners I have used. Different gear ratios per tuner such that a half turn equals a half step. I expect that many manufactures will move in this direction.

Overall a great guitar. The torrefied wood from the top produces a great sound but it seems like some of the overtones from the Rosewood back/sides will still take more time to fully develop. Made in China but as I mentioned, really great build just needs an upgraded finish to better match the price point and competition.
