I play primarily for church. This replaces my previous slim body acoustic /electric. The first thing people notice is the color (mine is a lovely blue), the next thing they notice is the sound which is amazing for a slimline. It's very easy to play and i can play it for hours without discomfort. A minor issue for me is that I usually play while seated and since I originally learned to play classical guitar, it sits on my left knee. This is a problem if it's plugged in since the pickup is right in the grommet for the strap. This means the chord hits my right leg. I've adjusted some, so it's not so bad now, but that was one of the few good things about my old guitar. Aside from that minor issue (which only classically trained guitarists are likely to have), this is a brilliant instrument and I highly recommend it. At the price point, it is excellent value.

Overall, a nice instrument for the money. There are some 'dead spots' on the fretboard, so it looks like i'll need to have it set up/dressed before doing anything too serious. Also, when plugging in, there's a strange loss of sound at low-volume. Like something is blocking the pickup from detecting delicate playing.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Never had an acoustic so decided to try one that would not break the bank. I have been a Fender and Gibson guy for a lot of years but the comments about the Fender acoustics were not great so I decided to try this bad boy.
It is not a concert instrument but I can't put it down, it is fun to play has a very good sound and tone both with and without the amp. For the price Yamaha hit it out of the park.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the first new acoustic guitar I have ever purchased. I own mostly electrics (Gibsons and one Fender) so I am accustomed to fast action and perfect string height. When this one arrived two days ago the bridge was way too high.
Is this normal? I had to detach the strings from the body, remove that plastic strip that supports the strings, file off about 1/8 inch and then put it all back together. I almost filed off too much. But the string height is now just right and it has the playability of an expensive guitar.
I am not a very good guitarist and never will be, so that is why a fancy guitar is out of the question. I feel the Yamaha APX 500 gives me great value. The satin neck is slick and smooth. The finish is just amazing. I love the shape and size of this box. Slim. Best of all, the built in tuner is handy and very accurate. I am a tuning fanatic and have never found a tuner this good.
I was not expecting the sound and tone of a high priced guitar, and did not get it either. Played through my very versatile Vox tube amp, the sound is ok. But for me I made the perfect choice for the money. I recommend it for casual players like me.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I originally bought the first iteration of the APX500 and fell in love immediately. Great sound, feel, look, etc. When I upgraded to the APX500 II, all of its classic qualities carried over beautifully. After it got damaged via natural causes, I knew exactly what I wanted to replace it - the APX500 III.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm learning to play guitar and I was looking for a thinline ( I'm small so I like the fact that it's thinner than other guitars ) and came across this one , which I love ! I love that it had a built in tuner and a pick up in it . I got this in a vintage sunburst and it looks amazing ! There is another similar to this that's a little smaller in size but this one was the bigger of the two and I wanted a full size guitar . I get so many compliments on it . I'm so happy with my guitar !

Bought for a learning teenager. Will be played in church. Sounds great with and without the electronics. Made a few easy adjustments (personal preference) to the action and it is so easy to play! The workmanship is excellent! The tuners hold tune well. The intonation is perfect! This guitar would work on stage for any venue, I have no negative e comments especially at this price range!

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this from a local store (not MusiciansFriend), and it is a great guitar. I sold a dreadnaught to get this one as it was not comfortable to play. The APX500III is a very comfortable guitar to play. I have a hard time deciding whether to play it or my Strat. It stays in tune well, and sounds great to me either unplugged or playing through a Peavey Vypyr 3 VIP acoustic amp model. I would definitely buy this guitar again.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I recieved last week and swapped strings to a 12-53 elixir Nanoweb 80/20 bronze set which made the guitar feel better and tamed a bit of the brightness of the strings that came with it. Adjusted the truss rod to bring the action down a bit.
Those changes really made it happen for me.
Today used it plugged into my guitar amp and did some recording on a travis/chet kinda picking song i wrote. i was very happy with the tone, sound, and playability of this guitar.
I bought this as a low cost alternative to bringing my Taylors for an average of 70 dates a year with my band The Long Run-Colorados tribute to the Eagles. My older taylor split in two and my new one already has a hairline crack. For the price i can replace the Yamaha if needed easily.
It will make its live debut next wek at a big theater show. I have confidence that will be awesome.
Tone, Playability, and the gloss black finish is a show stopper.
i highly recomend this guitar for experienced and especially for a beginner looking for a great value in an acoustic guitar!
BTW I own the nylon string version of this and it too is a fantastic instrument!
          ADAM
So far the playability and tone are great.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I already have the APX 100 and the recently released APXT2 both are 3/4 size versions of this amazing guitar! Due to their size, their sound falls short of this beauty but they make great travel guitars. The APX 500III is for the stage with die-cast tuners and smaller body size than a bulky Dreadnaught. I bought it as a level 3 open box item: there was a chunk off the top like someone had scraped a ceiling. I took a black Sharpie and covered it up saving over 1/3 off the price of the guitar: my Moana Bleu-burst beauty!!!!!

Guitar has a nice bright clean sound and easy fingering. It does require a few adjustments as far as string height from the fretboard but not that big of a deal. Has a very nice clean sound for recording or performance.

Compact size compared to my old acoustic, but a very nice tone. Clean appearance with built in pickup, and the overall quality is very good.

Bought it from a "stupid deal of the deal" offering. Doesn't have quite as good a sound as my older takamine lawsuit F340, but the electronics seem better (my f340 has homemade electronics!). I should be able to dial in a good sound once I get the hang of it. Bought it to use with my ditto x2 looper at open mics -- it will probably do the job just fine. Too good of a deal to pass up. The action and intonation was fine right out of the box.

MF just knocked it out of the park. This guitar is worth more that I paid. I took advantage of Stupid Deal of the Day and used reward points. Right of the truck, opened the box and gave the guitar plenty of time to temperature settle. Installed the included batteries, tuned up and started playing right away. Neck has the slightest amount of relief. Back of the neck is finished PERFECT! I won't have to sand it. Tuners are nice and firm. Frets are perfect; not too big, not too small. Cream Binding is nice and the fret ends are acceptable.

i will dress those fret ends a bit. Strings are nice. Bridge is solid. Oval sound hole with a faux Mother of Pearl rosette. Nice. Plenty of bottom and mids out of sound hole. Nice harmonics. Pre-amp and tuner are excellent. Top binding and finish are excellent. Back and sides are excellent. Hardware is just right for this guitar. Cutaway will almost give you full access, but I wanted an acoustic and the cutaway is exactly what I wanted. Very light weight and extremely comfortable.

i am reviewing an acoustic/electric that feels, looks and plays like a much higher priced guitar. This is another instrument that through all the years that I've been dealing with MF, exceeds the purchase price. Outstanding guitar at an incredible price!

                              Learning the guitar,

I am just above a novice.

                              Needed an acoustic guitar.

This one hits the spot. It is a thinner bodied guitar but has a full sound unplugged . It felt set up perfectly on arrival. Quick delivery by Musicians friend. Beautiful black finish. Plugged into to my Roland 15 watt amp it sounds fantastic . On board tuner is easy to use and accurate . The price is great.Very happy with my purchase .
