OVERVIEW

Versatile keyboard with high quality sounds.

Casio's PX560 is a lightweight, portable digital piano with 88 full-size, weighted scaled hammer action tri-sensor keys. The third sensor allows the instrument to more accurately emulate the sound of an acoustic piano, and this extraordinary key bed triggers with the feel of an acoustic piano. The Ebony & Ivory feel on the top of the keys enhance this effect. A sound sample library that features Casio' 4-Layer Stereo Grand Piano Sound, Multi-Dimensional Morphing AiR Sound Source, Hammer Response Simulator and String Resonance Simulator maximizes this triggering mechanism.

Other features include 256 Note Polyphony, 600 Tones with editor, Digital Effects including 17 Reverbs, 16 Chorus, 6 Delays, 4 Band Master EQ and DSP. A bank of 220 Rhythms with Rhythm Editor is included, along with a 96 Registration Memory (4 Areas x 24 Banks), 100 Song Audio Recorder, 17 Track / 100 Song MIDI Recorder with Song and Track Editing, Registration Memory. These functions are all accessible through a 5.3-inch Color Touch Display, which additionally accesses Casio' lesson function and 305 presets. Connectivity includes USB MIDI, USB Flash Drive Port, MIDI In/Out, L/R Line & Out, Audio In, 4 Speakers, and a 2 x 8 W Amplifier. Assignable expression pedal input as well. Operates with included ADA12150 adapter.

Comments about Casio Privia PX560 Portable Digital Piano:

I have an acoustic piano background and I purchased this keyboard as I started playing out again after many years of not. I had picked up a used 76 key semi-weighted board to test the waters but as things quickly developed I soon found that inadequate. After some research and testing I bought this Casio and am pretty satisfied with my purchase. Moving to this from a semi-weighted board was a huge improvement.

For an acoustic piano player the most two important aspects are keyboard response and sound quality. Does the 560 have the feel of a quality grand piano? In a word, no, and having a Kawai grand in my home I feel qualified to make that statement. There is a linearity and smoothness to the action of a good grand that is very difficult for an electronic keyboard to match. I find the action to be a little on the heavy side, the keys bounce slightly when rebounding and the keybed could be quieter.

That said, the 560 is magnitudes less than the price of a quality grand and I do find the action to be very good, as good or better than many boards costing far more. The textured keys took a little getting used to but are a help when playing under hot conditions.

Sound quality of the acoustic grand setting when played through a good system is terrific. I've had many compliments on how well it sounds when playing with my band. The 256 notes of polyphony is great. I've not experienced drop-outs when pedaling, and playing cluster chords. The sustain decay is long and linear, very pleasing. I've found a number of the other tones available to be useful for what I play, some good organ and ep voices, but many of them not so much. Your mileage may vary depending on the music you're into.

I've not delved into the many other features as of yet so can't comment on that but I do find the touch screen easy to use and the basic operations fairly easy to learn. I hope to dig deeper into the capabilities of this board soon. Overall quite pleased with my purchase at this point
