This drum is pretty awesome. My school uses everything yamaha. So, I bought one for myself. I love the sound of this drum. It can project so much from the middle of a football field. the rimshots just cut through the air like none other. The only thing is that, when you first get it in the box, it isn't tuned, so either tune it, or take the heads off and put new ones on. Although I found the stock heads very descent, the bottom heads could be changed. Not much wrong with it, but it can be a pain sometimes. The stock heads are made by remo, wich is cool. But if you want to change the heads I would strongly reccommend: Remo Black Max or Remo White Max as batters, and a Remo Falams II as a bottom head. The snare is so easy to take out, I play with it sometimes. Just unscrew the side on the throw-off, and pull on it from the opposite side. The nylon snare give you serious attack, too. The throw-off is rather easy to glide on and off, as well. It can handle extremely high tension, and not put too much stress on the drum shell, because the top and bottom heads pull against each other, instead of on the lugs. The only downside is that this drum is rather pricy, but it's worth every penny.

I am a music education major with a concentration in percussion, and I absolutely love marching band and drum corp. I do not, however, love this snare. The obvious first reason is the price. If it sounded like the best snare in the world it would be worth it, but it doesn't, which brings me to the next issue. Second, is the sound. It is a very dull sound, even with good heads and proper tuning in relation to top and bottom head tention, as well as tuning the guts properly, it still comes across as a very dead sound, especially from the stands at any size football field. Third, it is extremely heavy, especially compare to the better sounding Pearl Championship series, or the Dynasty DFX. I definitely prefer the pearl anyday. It's price is a little bit easier on the budget, and the tone, especially from a distance, is very clear and crisp. Sharp attacks, and good, short, warm, tone, with no ill overtones to create dissonance among the drums. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Wow! I attended the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps audition camp last Dec. and I must say, after using these snares, I'm going to buy one for myself. If your a snare drummer in/related to marching bands, I would highly recommend this drum. Especially the MTS version with the batter head snares. VERY NICE!

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

For starters, I play snare in one of Ohio's best high school marching bands. My high school plays Yamaha marching drums. The Yamaha SFZ's are by far the best sounding, and quality marching snares you can buy. My school plays Evans heads because we have a sponsor. I am not a big fan of our Evans MX White heads but our snares sound great! I have played the SFZ with a Remo Falam head and that sounds great too. Overall, this is by far the best marching snare that anyone could buy.

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

I got this drum for Christmas ( 2007 ) and when I played for the first time, it sounded wierd. It sounded exactly like a tom. I tightend the strings at the bottom but it still does not produce the crisp, light but travelling tap that most people look for in a marchimg drum. Its still a great drum though.

My school has 4 of these Yamaha Sforzando snares, and let me tell you, they are totally worth it! They are also extremely durable. Snap a Remo White Max head on one of these babys, and you're ready to go.

My high school has five of these and there the best snares I have used. I believe that with the right heads, tuning, and tension you can get the true sound, colors, and crispness of the drum for a great performance on the field or off.

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

My snare line uses these, and they sound so good I'm going to buy one myself. The independant snares are an awesome feature, as well as the floating suspension ring. We use these with Remo max crimped, and the sound AMAZING.

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

Its over all a good snare drum. Im the drum line leader at my high school. when tuned properly, you get a nice sound. i suggest you put the Remo White Max for the top head and the Remo Falams 2 for the bottom head. With that combination you get a nice articulate sound out of the drum, and when you put the right tension on the snare, they really speak.

We have the red version of these drums at our school and i like the sound . I am a freshman at school and there only 2 people on the line but we both like the snare. with the right head we believe that the yamaha could wipe out all the other brands.

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

In my opinion, this is the best marching snare you can buy. I have marched with one and they are amazing to play. The sound they give off is crisp and short so you can really hear the sticking. If you're going to buy a marching snare, this is the one to buy.

Comments about Yamaha MS-9214 Sforzando Snare Drum:

So our snareline marches 4 of these. They are superb! The quality is just un-matched compared to Pearl snare drums that we use to march. We just got these last season after our school had pearl for 14 years! These are just excellent. I highly reccomend these to any marching percussion section. With some Remo kevlar heads (the black ones) and the correct tuning, these are just un-matched by any other. I love em. Get 'em, now.THS Snareline '07TC
