I like it it's the nicest violin I ever played.
I actually own the VN-855 which is just like the VN-850, except it has the 1-piece back. The sound is awesome. It has a beautiful tone and great playability. I am very impressed, especially for the money. It has a nice case and a very nice bow. It sounds better than my 24-year-old Glaesel violin that now lists for over $1000.00. I highly recommend this violin as an upgrade violin/fiddle.
The workmanship, woods and finish used on this violin are outstanding. The sound is awesome. It resonates with excellent volume and tone, much better than I expected. It even makes the 100-year-old violin that I had been playing sound a little shabby. I am totally satisfied with my purchase because of the low price and high quality.
The finish pretty good until I got to the end of the scoll work at the top of the neck where the varnish was noticeably bubbled and there are obvious defects in the finish at other places as well (you don't need a trained eye). The bow is too long for the el-cheapo case and was forced into place (a nice touch of quality) and the blanket covering the violin was wadded up and appears to have been thrown in as an afterthought. In addition, two bags of dessicant were put in the case to absorb moisture - duh, too little moisture will crack the wood in a violin! This company has some terrible quality control issues and I have not even played it yet!! You would not know it from reading the other reviews but my advice would be to stay away from this one because even one violin going out the door in this condition should be unacceptable.
I own the VN-850... it is a high quality, well made Violin, and a great price.... the violin has a really good tone and will get even better with age.... it can really cut the band... you will not be sorry if you buy this violin.
The best value I have ever seen in a violin. Not only did violin amaze me with it's gorgeous finish and woodgrain, but the lush case was an unexpected surprise. For a first violin, you will be hard pressed to find a better value, and this little gem will serve you as long as you want it to.
