I bought these without doing much research. They were cheap, I trust the brand, and they looked pretty sweet. The biggest plus for these headphones is comfort. It is hard for me to find a pair of headphones I can wear for hours on end, and these are lightweight and the padding to this day feels great. They do a decent job keeping outside noise where it belongs and pick up a fairly typical frequency range. Not a lot of bass if thats what your looking for, but the midrange is smooth and the highs are pretty clear. For the price I can't complain and I don't regret the purchase. All i'm saying is don't expect to be amazed.

On the face of it, the AKG K77 really look like great headphones. In this case, you probably don't want to judge the book by the cover. I bought both the K240 studio standard headphones and these K77 headphones in the same order, primarily to use the K77 as monitors in my recording studio. I was hoping that they were relatively close (comparable) in sound quality, but these two headphones are worlds apart. The new K240 headphones actually sound exactly like my older pair of "pre-Harmon" K240s. Unfortunately, the K77 sound terrible compared to not only the K240's but also to my old KOSS "Dime-store" closed-back headphones as well. They're midrange heavy and while the bass is solid, the highs are not well defined at all (there's no detail to the high frequency content). As I tried different styles of music, I realized that the K77s are best suited to HIP HOP/Dance/RAP. When reproducing classical music, they sounded lifeless and when reproducing all forms of rock & metal, they were muddy & the midrange was all messed up (no high end sparkle). Save your money for a pair of K240 instead of buying these. You will be REALLY glad you did.

get these now!

Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

i love these headphones! after trying out many terrible lower priced headphones i was blown away by these AKG's. nice even sound that doesn't kill your ears and the smoothest bass response you can get for the money. they are miles above other headphones that claim to have 18hz frequency response. the mids and highs are smooth and these headphones have a great sweet spot that has enough volume to hear the whole mix at a good level without destroying your ear drums. you could get cheaper headphones and crank them, but you'd end up deaf. seriously.

Good 'phones

Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

I bought these to mix with... Yes I know, but it's all I have for now. These are decent tracking headphones, although they have a 1/8" plug with a converter. I thought it was the other way around. If you need 1 1/4" plug you NEED to keep that converter, whereas some higher priced headphones have 1/4" only. These sound great if you're listening to music, or tracking. They lack bass and are a little harsh in the midrange. I leaned that the hard way... Above all, these are best for tracking headphones because they are VERY comfortable and light. It doesn't bother me to wear these a couple hours at a time.

Big Bang for Your Buck!

By MileHighMusic

Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

These K77s are great for what they cost. In fact, they outperform many others that cost two to four times as much, or more. They are VERY comfortable to wear and they look pretty good. Sound is outstanding for what they cost. Yes, you can get better sound but certainly not for anywhere near this kind of money. Bass is not as weak as I expected based on some other reviews - it was good enough for my use. Overall, an excellent value for the money with good looks, light weight, and great sound.

    Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

for what i paid, they are not "audiophile" expensive professional headphones, but they are pretty good. very comfortable, they fit over your entire ear instead of on top of them (very comfortable or users with glasses), great sound.

i use them in my home studio and they are more than good enough for that. great for ipod or general music listening also. the cord is very long. overall i feel that the money i spent on them as worth every penny.

my only gripes - i wish they had a detachable cord, and i wish they came with a carry bag.

They do what they are designed to do

    By CattWalk

    from Hillsbor, OH

    Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

First off, the mids and highs are stronger, I assume so that you can actually monitor youself while recording. These aren't made for listening to music, so they won't sound the best for that. They perform their proper function well.Oh, and anyone who actually mixes, or God forbid, masters, using headphone is a dolt and has no business mixing and mastering.

      Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

I wish it had a detachable cable that can be easily replaced in the event that it goes bad.
Does the job in minimizing high end sound bleeding to the microphone while I record vocals.
Very comfortable to to wear with a sturdy durable built.
Very good price for an AKG headphone.

      There are better out there

      By thecereal

      Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

I got 2 pair of these with a headphone amp, and I'm quite disappointed with them. They do not offer anything in the way of noise level attenuation. The drivers are not very accurate, leaving you with lackluster bass, muddy vocals and highs that are lacking. You can do better with something like the Sennheiser hd202s

      By Cbakke

      from St.paul

      Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

They have a nice bass tone with out sounding muddy. The highs and mid range come out clear with out being piercing. I plan on using them for mostly music listening but they might become my new mastering headphones. Its a solid product at a great price.

            Comments about AKG K77 Headphones:

I've found these particular headphones to be lacking in sound quality. The low end is weak. There's a stronger emphasis on the mids than I'd like, resulting in somewhat of a cardboard sound, and the high end isn't terribly pleasing either. These might be alright for casual listening at low levels, but not much else in my opinion. On the upside, the build quality is very solid. I could certainly trust them to hold up for a long time. They fit comfortably, though maybe not tightly enough to have any real isolation effect. I certainly don't regret the purchase, but I wouldn't use them for a mix/master situation.
