A five-user pack of Leopard for Mac families
Apple has named version 10.5 of its OS X for Mac Computers after the exotic, spotted leopard that has fascinated animal lovers worldwide. Now with more than 300 new features, 64-bit power, tools that fully utilize your computer's multicore processing power, and a fresh desktop that is just as visually unique as the wild cat. The Mac OS X Leopard is sure to be as big an attraction as its namesake totem animal.
The redesigned desktop makes multitasking a cinch with new organizational setups like Stacks (a Dock item that gives you instant access to a folder of files that pop up when you click on it) and Spaces (work on several applications without cluttering your desktop by dissecting it into patterns where each project is easy to switch between). Searching for things has never been faster now that Finder has the popular Cover Flow browsing function found on the iPod Touch, and the ingenious Quick Look allows you to see the contents of files before opening them up. The new Time Machine feature automatically creates a backup and storage system to help you keep an up-to-date copy of everything on your Mac so if you need to look at work done on a specific date in the past, it's organized in such a way it'll take seconds to find.
Safari has been given a more powerful engine, getting you to where you want to go faster, more securely, and even allowing you to save web pages as desktop widgets for later usage. Speaking of security, added Parental Controls include smarter content filters, the ability to set bedtime and regular time limits, and logs for supervision that gives you ease of mind. Taking Internet interaction to whole new levels, iChat has been updated with creative backdrops, Photo Booth effects, slideshows, Keynote presentations, and more. Mail has been upgraded to include more than 30 professionally designed stationary templates, to-do lists, and the ability to leave yourself notes.
As with each new Mac OS release, Apple adds fun and innovative ideas, while improving the old features. There's too many things to go into here, but that's part of the fun of upgrading to the latest version, discovering what wonderful concepts they've thought up this time. Why not use it as an excuse to get the family together?
