I bought this mic package on a whim, and Man was I in for a shock! The 2020 has a big, punchy sound and captures big overdriven guitar amp sounds up close and far away, fantastically. The real gem however, is the AT 2021. Whoa!!! It is so dynamic, with power and clarity, that it's my go to mic for any and all acoustic instruments and overhead drum/cymbal applications. I notice some of the reviews stated that this mic doesn't work. Well, don't forget it needs "phantom power" to operate correctly. If you're not using this, it will not make a single sound! This is a fantastic mic package and one helluva great deal!

I bought these mics a few months ago because they were a cheap package deal with good reviews. Well, I should have bought something else. The Vocal mic sounds very muddy and the instrument mic hasn't worked since the day it arrived. AT has never replied to my warranty request. If you buy these, keep your receipt, you'll need it. Spend the extra $ and buy a SHURE SM57 & SM58.

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

When I first hooked up these mics to try them out, I was blown away! They have a great tone to them, which I love, and I can't get enough of them! With some mics when you first try them out they sound good, then after a while you notice they're not as good as you thought. Not these two! If you're looking at this page, these are the right mics for you!

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I bought one of these sets, and it wasn't a bad deal for the price. Honestly, these aren't the greatest mics in the world, but you can get decent results with soe experimentation. The large diaphragm 2020 has a warm tone, perhaps a bit too much on the high end. The smaller 2021 can be a bit tinny sounding. I had originally hoped to use the 2021 on my acoustic guitar while using the 2020 for my voice, but the 2020 ended up being better suited to both so I'd go with just the larger one rather than this package.I'm now looking to upgrade to something better, but this was a decent value that was good to experiment with and learn. If I had it to do over again, I might go for something more professional like the 4040 right out of the gate, but if you're on a budget I'd recommend at least the 2020.

    Something to consider

    By Steven Andres

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I love the AT2020. I think it sounds great, looks good and is perfect for starting up. Highly recommend it, though it would be nice if it came with a shockmount. I'm sure the AT2021 is a nice mic, if it were to work. The one I got doesn't make a sound, and I've read another similar review. Just make sure wherever you buy it from will take it back and give you a new one if you would be lucky enough to get one that doesn't work.

I use these mics for recording Native American Flute. They perfom well as a set. I use the small condensor for the instrument and the large as a room or overhead mic. I have been very pleased with their performance.

    Exceptional

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I may be a little nave, but these mics are exceptional! I have been into music for about three years now, and I had a cd ready (using a Shure SM58 for vocals), when someone told me that I needed a condenser mic for recording. I went to Guitar Center to purchase the MXL 990/991 recording package, when I was influenced to think about the Audio-Technica AT2020 AT2021 package. Again, I don?t know much about quality of particular mics, but these are amazing! I would highly recommend this package to anyone pursuing recording. I wouldn?t be surprised if these mics were in a large studio, but it is a must have for any home project. The price is great, but the quality exceeds the $. I would expect these mics to be at a much higher price bracket. Do yourself a favor and buy this package!

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I bought these mics for live acoustic miking, I was impressed with the clarity sound quality. The 2020 sounds great on acoustic instruments and vocals. The 2021 is a little bright for banjo but even sounds great on upright bass. I use these primarily for instruments, and a 4033 for vocals in live bluegrass, for the money they can't be beat.

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I have bought these at GC 3wks ago, and WOW. These mikes really kicks. I am expecially surprised how loud the AT2021 can get. You wouldn't imagine how much volume that thing picks up. And the AT2020 is Just perfect for vocals. I just wished that the mount for the AT2020 didn't have that little section in it. Maybe I'll buy a large Flat head screwdriver and try and take it out. Otherwise, this is a MUST BUY! These should be in every studio. I will buy another pack soon.

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

These mics are unbelievable for the price. I have used them in four live applications jazz, country, rock, symphony. It each application they always impress. The AT2020 is a great sounding large diagram condenser I have used it for drum overheads and paino mics. It sounds great but does sound a little bright. The AT2021 seems like it can handle anything from cymbols to trumpets to stereo ambience. They can handle high spl and sound great. The only improvement that I could think of is rolloffs and pads but you can use adapters for that. I great buy for anyone.

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

The 2020 makes and excellent stereo pair for acoustic guitar. Very open and airy. I first used it in a state of the art studio where the mic selection was vast and costly. I was dubious when the engineer recommended it. But, by golly, he was right! I don't know anything about the 2021...never used it. But I now own my own 2020 and often choose it over my AKG 414 for recording guitar AND vocals. Excellent value for the bucks. It would be a bargain at twice the price.

    Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

I purchased the AT2041SP because I was looking for a microphone to use for voice over work in product promotion videos. As it turns out I am using the AT2020 and AT2021 more and more. I have used them in recording of both "live" and "studio" instumental and vocal groups. I will us the AT2021 as a solo mic and then us the AT2020 as a fill microphone. I could not be happier with the purchase and I plan on buying another set.

I started recording my own music about a year ago and bought these for acoustic, vocals, and drums and have not been disappointed. I've read a few reviews that bash these mics, but if you are just starting out you can't go wrong with these guys. Different polar patterns, etc would be nice, but at this price you can't expect too much. Great overall value.

        Decent value, but definetly not

        Comments about Audio-Technica AT2041SP - AT2020 and AT2021 Microphone Pack:

Don't be fooled by other reviewers. This is a decent value, but these condenser mics are sub-par compared to condenser mics that don't cost all that much more. Like other cheap condenser mics, they tend to accentuate highs, giving the impression that you're getting a "crisper" recording, but what it really amounts to is a "tinnier" recording. They're a cheap solution for someone looking to record vocals and maybe acoustic guitar, but you wouldn't find either of these in a pro studio, and for good reason. The 2020 is a good alternative to recording vocals with an sm58 or possibly as an extra room mic, and the 2021 would be alright for acoustic guitar. However, if you're thinking about picking up an audio technica condenser, I would strongly reccomend saving up some extra money and go with a 3035 or a 4040 for vocals/guitar. There's little reason to even have a 2021, as the 2020 would work just as well for acoustic guitar as the 2021.

Stop! Don't buy it! Wait just a little bit longer, save just a little bit more and get the Rode NT1-A. It is a much better value for really not that much more. With the AT-2020, I have never been able to get a decent vocal out of it. A SM 58 sounds better than this garbage. I have been able to get ok guitar tones, but they are just ok, nothing to write home about. This mic is just not worth it.
