OVERVIEW

USB-powered mic with versatile tri-capsule design.

Create unparalleled recordings with your computer using Blue's best-selling Yeti family of USB microphones. Thanks to Blue's proprietary tri-capsule technology, Yeti microphones produce pristine, studio-quality recordings with legendary ease. And four different pattern settings offer incredible flexibility so you can record vocals, instrumental music, podcasts, audio for video, interviews, or even cryptozoology lectures in ways that would normally require multiple microphones. Whether you're recording at home, on the road, or in the Himalayas, Yeti helps you produce studio-quality recordings every time.

Total Recording Control with Yeti
Yeti features studio controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute and microphone gain—putting you in charge of every level of the recording process. If you’re experiencing distortion or feedback while recording an especially loud source—like the deafening sound of an avalanche—simply adjust the microphone's sensitivity with the gain control. Or, if you want to take a break in the middle of a podcast, use the instant mute button.

The microphone comes equipped with a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack and allows you to listen to what you're recording in real-time, without latency delays—that means no more hearing a note 3 seconds after you played it. You can adjust the volume of your headphones using the control on the front of the microphone.

Innovative Design Makes Recording Easy
Yeti doesn’t mind getting pushed around—it lets you adjust and pivot the microphone in relation to the sound source, which optimizes your sound quality. Once you’ve achieved the desired angle, simply hand-tighten the set knobs to secure it in place. Yeti is a side-address microphone, so you can capture the best sound by going face-to-face with it. The microphone can also be folded down for easy portability, or removed completely from its base for mounting directly on a mic stand, or on the Radius shockmount.

Hassle-Free Setup
Simply plug Yeti into your computer's USB port with the included USB cable, calibrate it with your operating system, and you're ready to record—rain, shine, or snow. Yeti offers driver-free operation, while the Yeti Pro requires easy-to-install drivers, available from Blue.

Yeti is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8 (including 8.1), Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home and Professional), and Mac OS X (10.4.11 or higher), and requires a minimum of 64 MB of RAM*.

This is a solid, well-performing condenser mic at a very reasonable price. Its character is very clear, balanced, detailed and open, maybe not so defined in the low end, but excellent for anything that lives in the midrange. It's obviously geared more towards vocal recording, which makes it ideal for singer/songwriter types, podcasters, etc.

The different patterns (cardiod, bi-directional, stereo, omni-directional) make the Yeti a very versatile mic. It does just as well on a single person as it does handling an entire room, or two people at once. It also lets you pull in room ambiance on a recording without needing a second mic or dealing with phasing issues. This is a great feature and really does not seem to impact the quality of the audio in any noticeable way.

If there is one thing I would say brings the Yeti down, it's the USB-only interface. While it does sound good, you can't use it with a separate audio interface and its own preamps, and it's limited to 44.1 khz. This means it's "what you see is what you get", which is both good and bad. If you are into more serious recording and already have an interface, there are other mics out there that would do the job better in my opinion. But, on the other hand, not having to have an interface is definitely an upside in certain situations. Obviously that's one way they justify charing extra for the pro model. Just be aware of your needs when buying anything.

Bought the Yeti because I thought it would make a good home studio mic. Did not last a month becuse the USB input broke. Emailed the company 3 times with no support or help. Don't purchase this product because company will not fixed the bad design flaws in USB. The USB mount breaks off easy from the internal the chip board. I have several USB mics and this is the worst design I have every seen. There is no strain relief and any pressure will cause the USB to come loose and break inside.

Great Microphone

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I got the Blue Yeti yesterday for my 19th birthday and was playing around with it today. It is amazing. It picks up everything. Past microphones I used for demos couldn't pick up anything unless I was a few inches away from it, but then if I sang above a whisper it would distort and crackle. With the blue yeti, I can just put it in the middle of my recording space and play. It sounds great. It has four settings for recording. My favorite is the stereo setting because it has a great true echo to it that makes it sound like you're in the room. Very professional sounding. It's official: this is the microphone I'm using for my final recordings for my band's new record. It's terrific. And when considering it's less that two hundred dollars, it's a steal.

Mic is great, Cable is terrible.

By Matt Bounds

from Greensboro, NC

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

Ok, so it's a great mic. It really is. It sounds fantastic. But I didn't even have it for a day before the cable that connects it to the computer just completely screwed up. The end that connects into the mic itself somehow bent and snapped off, I presume due to the weight of the cable itself (Because really there's no other way I can think of that that would happen). Fortunately I have another cable like it, it's just frustratingly short. Basically, get this mic, but have a backup cable around just in case.

Unbelievable

By Stanley Teel

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I've worked with it in cardoid undirectional mode 1 day recording a melodica melody track over an orchestrated background. Incredible sound! Easy to use, it installs itself right away. XP users will have to go into Control Panel - Sound Devices and set the Yeti as your default Input device then set your sound card as the default Output device. For some reason all my programs tried to play back everything thru the Yeti until I changed the Input/Output settings. Once that was done I had no problems at all.

This thing is huge, massive, ginormous! It looks like it'll still be around long after the house falls down and blows away.

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I have had this mic for over 2 years now. I get daily use out of it, not only as a home recording microphone, but I'm on Skype constantly, so people constantly talk about how clearly they can hear me (and I don't have to use a headset).

The mic sounds clear and crisp - great for recording. My only complaint is that the mini-USB port is prone to break if the cord gets pulled too many times.

But perhaps the best thing I have to say about this mic is that it comes with a 2-year warranty and Blue has STELLAR customer service. I had owned the mic for a week shy of 2 years. I didn't even have the receipt anymore, so when that pesky USB port broke, I called Guitar Center and they were able to find the receipt number. I provided that for Blue customer service and that was all they needed. I sent the mic back to them and they had a replacement to me within a week. They were in constant contact with me to let me know the status of the repair - I have seldom had such a positive experience with any customer service dept.

Not only is this a good mic, especially for the price, but my experience with Blue's customer service convinced me that the next XLR mics I buy are going to be Blue also.

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

If you are looking for a very easy to use USB microphone for home or studio recording, this is it!
It's hard to believe it is priced as it is!!
The features are great too. 4 different patterns, mute, headphone jack, volume!
If you are even considering buying this mic, STOP WAITING! GET IT!! You won't be disappointed.
My son got this for xmas and let me tell you... it is FANTASTIC!!
First off, it is plug and play... we use it to record our own music on a laptop. Plug er' in a USB port, boot up Mixcraft, and away we go!
The headphone jack allows us to hear what is being recorded with zero latency! LOVE IT!
The 4 different patterns allows for making studio quality recordings with or without effects.
This mic is steel-sturdy! Built like a battleship, and looks like a robot.
For the price nothing else even comes close to this value.

    Great for speaking

    By Annette

    About Me Professional Musician

    See all my reviews

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

Someone in another review said humorously: "I instantly sounded like Barry White". Kinda says it. This mic has a great bassy tone. I'm still working on getting it right on the musical end. I do both speaking and singing videos. On the speaking end, it's excellent. Rich tone that toweres over my webcam mic. But for singing, I don't know yet. I have a Zoom H2n and the options for sound (particularly the MS 4 channel option) allow for a wider stereo sound which is what I like. Anyhow, I can definitely recommend this mic for speaking. Had a clicking sound problem initially (even on the lowest volume) but found out it was my Logitech C310 webcam software. No click anywhere else. Not in Audacity, Cool Edit pro or when I captured video using Vegas Pro's capture and Windows Movie Maker software for capturing. So, if you get a click, try another software.
Oh yeah, a tip: set your system volume way down at first to see what's good for you. The mic has it's own volume nob, not only for the headset monitoring, but for input into your system so you can adjust your input volume from the mic. I actually have my system volume for the Yeti at 1/3 volume and the Yeti mic nob all the way down and I get ample sound. Got that tip from Youtube about keeping the Yeti volume all the way down. The kid said it reduces room noise. He was right.

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

This is a great USB mic for it's price. I record more heavy music and record things like vocal screams. If you do record anything louder than singing that I highly suggest a pop filter because you'll hear a lot of static and distortion. Any pop filter will do, you don't need to company's pop filter as it's a lot more expensive than other standard pop filters. But overall it is a great mic and has a lot of uses. The only down side is that it's a little big compared to other USB mics. But besides that it is great and has a lot of built-in functions directly on the mic. Great with use for Logic and Garageband.

    Worth every dollar

    By Redmarley

    from Minneapolis

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I do a lot of home recording, and this mic is perfect for it. It is USB ONLY, so you can't hook it up to a soundboard the traditional way. But this is perfect for what I do. One great advantage is that you plug the headphones directly into the mic and have direct feedback on the sound, something which is lacking in other USB mics like the Blue Snowflake. Another distinct advantage is that the mic has a gain control directly on the mic, which is great because I record drums, and other mics I've used overdrive too much. If you need a mic to do your own recordings, you really can't do better than this. It's a great price, solid construction, lots of options as far as input, and delivers GREAT sound!

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I bought this mic for my home studio which is still being built. Anyway, I've mostly used this mic while gaming, and I appear to always have the best sound quality on the server(not surprising, really). I have yet to do a proper recording with it, but from my experience with this mic so far, it picks up sound pretty well, with no need for an audio interface. On the other hand, with a growing studio, I anticipate outgrowing this mic and getting something with XLR support when I finally need an audio interface.

The headphone amplifier works pretty well, although admittedly it's not in the best place to avoid accidentally unplugging it. I've heard some complaints about the USB cable, but have had no issues so far, deliberately giving the cable a little bit of slack to avoid any potential stress on the connector.

Now, I have a couple critiques with the design, but they are by no means deal breakers. First, the "mute" button isn't as sensitive as it should be, sometimes taking a few presses to switch between on and off modes. Second, the gain on the mic seems almost like an unnecessary feature for most purposes, as anything above 1/4 turn of the knob makes the mic pick up literally everything(on servers when I've had my gain above that, I've heard people complaining that it sounded like I was blowing into my mic when it was my computer's fan, and even the lightest of touches with anything on my desk would make a very loud sound). Thirdly, the base of the microphone could be wider and have a little more space for the microphone to tilt, as the usb cable gets in the way with some configurations.

So, I would recommend this to a friend, but I would also recommend that they get a pop filter and a boom stand with a shock mount for optimal sound quality.

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

I really enjoy this microphone. Yes it's heavier than I thought it would be. IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH WINDOWS 8. I'm a gospel singer and use this as a recording mic for my voice. It is a little touchy when it comes to the gain and everything. If you are using a program to record with that has a gain feature make sure to turn that ALL THE WAY TO ZERO!!! Just use the microphone gain control. I just recently had latency issues but that was my computer (I HOPE) I got that fixed (I HOPE)!!! Overall this is an excellent microphone very easy to use it's just PLUG AND PLAY/RECORD. One thing that i had to do though is go into the sound settings in my computer and disable the audio jack on the microphone (you can plug headphones into the bottom of the microphone and listen to your voice I personally cant stand that) I just plug the mic into the computer record and play back it makes it much easier for me. If you have the 3.0 USB plug on your computer I suggest plugging this microphone into that USB port (much better audio not very noticeable but still better) Prior to having this microphone I would have to go to my church and record using their sound board that could plug into a USB port on my computer (big pain in the butt) and i didn't get good sound quality now I have much better sound quality and I can record and get my recordings done MUCH FASTER. Overall best (however much it is priced for because they wont let me put how much I paid for it in the review) I've ever spent.

Comments about BLUE Yeti USB Microphone:

Looking at the price and all the features that it comes with, this would be an amateur artist's dream come true. However, it turns into more of a nightmare once you reach past the point of returning the thing.
After ever so long, the software turns corrupt and Blue do not offer a fix for this problem. From one amateur musician to another, DON'T BUY THIS MIC.
I am serious, it is the worst piece of equipment I've ever seen. If you plug it into your computer and see that the OS is searching for device driver software, it just means it will never work again.
It will record but when you play it back it is extremely distorted like when you put an old cassette player on fast forward.
This is the last product I'll ever buy from Blue.
