Impedance control and output control for microphones.

The Cloud Microphones CL-Z mic activator uses phantom power from your preamp to solve common problems with dynamic and ribbon microphones, while maximizing signal quality, making it a must-have box for your studio or live toolset. It is designed to be connected between your mic and preamp, maximizing signal quality while driving long cable runs. The direct-coupled, discrete JFET circuitry preserves your signal's integrity while the CL-Z goes to work.

You get control over the input impedance (to get the best out of any microphone), and a variable output level (+12 to +24dB) so you can drive even the longest cable runs with ease. You even get a variable low-cut filter to clean up your signal before it sees your preamp. Whether you run live sound or just use a variety of mics on a daily basis in your studio, you'll love working with the CL-Z mic activator.

The Cloud Microphones CL-Z mic activator's input features variable impedance from 150 to 15k ohms. Since every microphone is different, and typically sound best at specific input impedances, you can tailor the CL-Z to any mic to get the best performance. And even if your preamp features variable impedance, the CL-Z lets you control this near your microphone.

Sometimes you need a little extra juice to get a quality mic signal to your preamp, especially with long cable runs. The Cloud Microphones CL-Z mic activator makes it easy, adding 12 to 24dB of gain to your signal, while the premium circuitry passes your audio uncolored. It is particularly useful for low-output ribbon and dynamic mics in your studio, and it's perfect for driving long cable runs from the stage to the board in live sound settings.

The CL-Z from Cloud Microphones is placed between your mic and preamp, giving you access to the additional gain and variable low-cut filter on the CL-Z. In your studio, that makes it easy to optimize your signal before it hits your preamp. Sure, your preamp may have a filter, and maybe even variable impedance, but in many studio layouts, it's across the room, or even in another room altogether. The CL-Z lets you dial the filter in and maximize your signal for a long cable run, meaning you'll be hitting your favorite preamp with the best signal possible.

Rediscover Your Dynamic Mic Collection

Comments about Cloudlifter-Z Microphone Activator:

After feeling uncertain about blowing more money on yet another mid priced condenser, I read a review for this box on a blog and decided to hear what 25dB of super clean gain would do for my mismatched and mostly donated dynamic mic selection.

• After receiving the product, I first put up a Shure SM58. It was amazing to hear a 58 sound like a powered mic.
• Then I tried it on an Audix D6 kick drum mic and discovered a new microphone texture that I have never heard before but would love to use.
• I borrowed a friend's Cascade Fat Head ribbon and finally got to hear what the appropriate amount of gain through a ribbon is supposed to sound like. In the past, I clearly have been under powering ribbons.
• While accompanying outboard mic pres that claim to have enough juice to power a ribbon, I found this little box a suddenly indispensable tool that afforded me the option to use the tubes and transformers in my mic pres for their character and not to have everything dialed all the way up.(Thereby always coloring the sound EVERY time.)
• It even made my 57 and 58 knockoffs sound halfway decent.

I probably only needed the CL-2 instead of the CL-Z but maybe I'll get another and then be able to have an overhead dynamic stereo pair as a new recording weapon.

    Comments about Cloudlifter-Z Microphone Activator:

The Cloudlifter-Z takes the already stellar clean boost from the other Cloudlifters and adds some useful functions. There is a variable low cut filter and a variable impedance dial. Cutting the lows is obvious, but varying the impedance on a source is something unique. I can change the sound of a source (like guitar) quite drastically (and not so drastically) by changing the impedance. This is something that is a lot of fun to play with and works really well.
