OVERVIEW

A must for making your own cables.

Simply insert an RCA or 1/4" coaxial cable through the Planet Waves Cable Cutter/Tester's feed hole, squeeze the cutting arm down, and you have a perfect, neat, clean cut. Once the cable is connected with the plugs, use the Cutter/Tester to check for shorts and proper tip and ground connections. Colored lights tell you if the cable is ready for use. If the blade on the cutting arm begins to dull, simply replace it with a regular razor blade.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Cable Cutter/Tester:

If I'd did more research and read reviews as I am now.. I'd spent an extra 10 or 20 bucks and got a tester that would test xlr, tsr and 1/4" cables. Mic cables and speaker cables are my main concern.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Cable Cutter/Tester:

Seemed to work OK at first after about maybe 10 cable checks the right "dual" jack would not accept a plug. I tried to open it up and see what the problem was, maybe the jack was bent or something. Well, there are NO jacks in the thing, just PC mounted clips and when I opened it the whole thing fell into pieces. I could not get it back together again so just tossed it in a bag and wrote it off as a loss. I like everything else D'Addario makes like their strings and solderless cable kits but this thing as a cable checker, a piece of JUNK.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Cable Cutter/Tester:

The cutting arm does not stay secure over time and is quite annoying actually. I had to use a rubber band to keep it from popping open. The cutter actually works very well with a nice sharp razor blade. The distance between the in and the out if you are cutting very short cables for a pedal board are also a limitation. The better units have the input/output side by side which is much more desirable option I think. I had to use a female/male extender to custom cut the super short ones. It works but it's an added step etc... It's nice and small and fits in my cable bag very nicely for gigs but sort of plastic(y) and clunky to use. It's not that I think it's a bad item, but for just a bit more you get the ability to test more cable types is more desirable.
